   101. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 08, 2018 at 10:39 PM (#5723743)
The Cubs aren't going to really extend their lead on the division, playing against non-divisional rivals,
Not at this rate they bloody well aren't.

Yeah, these aren't the teams to be splitting or losing series to.

2 out of 3 at home isn't "splitting" a series, it's doing what you had to do, and regardless of the quality of the team 2-2 on the road is what you go into any series hoping for. Yes it's "treading" water in a way, doing what is expected for a championship caliber team, but to expect more just seems a little bit greedy and unrealistic.

It was 2-2 at home...against the Padres. And 2/3 on the road...against the Royals. You can't just disregard the quality of the competition. That makes no sense whatsoever.

I was referring to last week's four-game split with the Padres. And for some reason, I thought they had lost one of the other two games in this series. Long days are catching up to me!

Wily Peralta sighting! Kasper just described him as hard-throwing, which is disappointing. The name would be perfect for a junkballer.

It's also how they're losing, while barely scraping out the wins. You can't win every game by double digits, but you also can't be outscored in the series, which is what the Padres and royals have done to the Cubs.

Jorge Castillo @jorgecastillo
Crew chief Jerry Layne said Soto was ejected for arguing balls and strikes from his previous AB. Asked if Gibson had given him a warning, Layne said the league would comment on that but he didn’t need to. Asked if Soto used expletives, Layne said the league would comment on that.

"Ump Show: The Series" will continue after these words from our sponsors.

ouch ... announced attendance in miami is around 7,000.

You think that's bad?

Gotta love the accountability.

Giant moth removed from umpire's ear in Yankees @ White Sox. Video should be somewhere soon.

I love Juan Soto:

Jamal Collier @JamalCollier
Juan Soto said tonight was the first time in his life he has ever been ejected.

He said he told the umpire the pitch in his last at-bat was a ball to “make sure he can understand and be better and help him help us.”

He knows that he knows the strike zone better than the umpires!

With apologies to Bill Klem/Rogers Hornsby:

"When the pitcher throws a strike, young Mr. Soto will let you know."

Re: #112: Video of Giant Moth Removed From Umpire's Ear.

Bruce Dreckman went into the Yankee dugout for treatment, although they were the visiting team. Yankee trainer Steve Donohue has been around a long time and perhaps Dreckman had more confidence in his ability to perform such a sensitive task, but although Donohue supplied the tweezers and poked around a bit, Dreckman took over and eventually removed the beast himself, all while play continued without a 2nd base umpire, not that the Sox broadcast paid much attention to the game while the gripping dugout drama was unfolding.

Hannibal Sanchez knocked out in the 2nd inning after being struck on the left calf by a batted ball. Good thing for the Nats as Wes Parsons immediately loaded the bases, then walked in their 1st run. It's now 3-1 Washington.
