HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!
   2. QLE Posted: May 12, 2017 at 07:05 PM (#5454544)
And will it be more or less embarrassing than how the Giants lose?
   3. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 07:13 PM (#5454547)
Cards vs Cubs... Cards playing a quality team for once, it's been a while since they had to do that.. Eddie Butler vs Mike Leake.... Cardinals for some odd reason haven't played well at home since 2016 started, so that is another thing to pay attention to.
   4. Shaggy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 07:13 PM (#5454548)
The Rockies are going against Kershaw at Coors again. Last time they hit three HRs against the Dodgers ace.

If you haven't, you should check the Rockies out. Nolan Arenado is something else.

So, what's your take on the Cards' chances this year for the Crown de los Crownos ?
Are they capable of winning the World Series 2017 ?

I am out of it with the Giants, but in with the Yanks.

   6. Satan Says Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:04 PM (#5454572)
The Yankees need to coach their ####### centerfielders to catch those pop flies into the outfield, goddammit.

I think the Cardinals are capable of winning the wild card...and I fully consider the post season a crapshoot so getting into the post season gives them as good of a chance as anyone of winning it all.

I did think that the Cubs might regress a bit, but a lot of that regression was going to be compensated by reversed regression (guys who are better than the way they played for them last year like Heyward mostly)

I get that the Cubs are the best team in baseball, but I'm not really sure that they are more than half a factor better than the Cardinals, and the only reason I say that is that the Cardinals had a few huge question marks in Lynn, Leake, Wainwright Wong, Grichuk and Gyorko(can he repeat his 2016) those are starting players that came into season with huge question marks.

The Astros are good.

Yup, that would be my take also. Unless they win like 30 in a row. (just checking if my anti-jinxing works)
Meaning the Cubs :)

I'm all in on omnichatter! I'm sure all you Brewers fans are a'scurred.
   12. Lassus Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:15 PM (#5454584)
God, Matt Garza looks awful.

I mean physically, his face, not his pitching.
   13. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:20 PM (#5454588)
The Astros are good.

Astros were hurt a bit by a surprise good season a couple of years ago, a season earlier than expected, that is not usually a good thing for a developing team in my opinion, it forces them to play their youth more frequently and earlier than anticipated and probably costs a year on a couple of players.
   14. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:20 PM (#5454589)
I told my daughter recently that I used to listen to Yankees games on AM radio on one of those Ghetto Blaster things, and once even broke off the antenna angrily, because the Yanks lost to the Orioles in the bottom of the 9th.

She just shook her head.
And that time, it wasn't even a joke.

   15. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:22 PM (#5454590)
Seems like the Astros are in some kind of weird success groove.
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:27 PM (#5454591)
Bryant out with a stomach flu or something... Jon Jay wasn't announced before the game but took over before the first inning.
   17. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:27 PM (#5454592)
Oh comeon Judge.

*breaks off antenna
*glues antenna back on
   18. Lassus Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:36 PM (#5454593)
ugh, duda
   19. Lassus Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:40 PM (#5454595)
Something tells me this is not going to be a triumphant return to dominance for Harvey.
   20. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:44 PM (#5454596)
I know we don't don't do fantasy teams here, but Jackie Bradley Jr. is the worst person in the world.
   21. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:49 PM (#5454597)
Cubs are dropping like flies... Bryant replaced by Jay before the game, and Jay removed now and replaced with Zobrist(who moves from 2nd to right, and La Stella takes over 2nd)
   22. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:52 PM (#5454598)
Diaz hits a hard two bouncer right to the third baseman who can't come up with it cleanly, makes a throw and Diaz beats it and is awarded a base hit... 1. I thought he was out by the naked eye 2.it was a tough play for the third baseman 3. the third baseman did as good of a job as he could to pick the ball up after the drop and still Diaz beats it out(maybe)
   23. Lassus Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:53 PM (#5454599)
Oh dear.
   24. Lassus Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:57 PM (#5454601)
Big big out. Harvey got Thames to strike out with the bases loaded.
   25. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: May 12, 2017 at 08:57 PM (#5454602)
Harvey somehow got it out ... uh, got out of it.
   26. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 09:16 PM (#5454604)
Contreras with two homeruns tonight.
   27. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: May 12, 2017 at 09:18 PM (#5454605)
WTF Headley. Go shower and don't be a #######.

Headley bunts like a moron and then messes with the ump. Ejected.
   28. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: May 12, 2017 at 09:30 PM (#5454607)
What a fine bunt, Buenos Diaz !
   29. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 09:52 PM (#5454610)
I agree that Garza looks like he wuz rode hard and put up wet, while Harvey looks positively svelt tonight. My image of him was on the...pudgy side.

I wanted to have a formal dinner tonight so I'm chowing down on this bow tie pasta. YUM!
   30. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 09:59 PM (#5454615)
Cardinals going out of the way to help Eddie Butler get a quality start by swinging at the first two pitches they see in the 6th.
   31. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:00 PM (#5454616)
Conforto smacks a ball juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust shy of the yellow line on the deepest CF fence. Another couple inches higher and that's a home run.
   32. zack Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:04 PM (#5454618)
Why the hell is Harvey leading off an inning with 100 pitches after struggling through 5?

EDIT: also why am i commenting on a game i'm watching on delay.
   33. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:04 PM (#5454619)
OK, that was classic! Garza's pitch bounced in the dirt, rolled up the catcher's glove arm as he looked left and right for it, then the ball came down and bounced off his left shoulder to alert him of its presence, all while Cabrera was taking 3B during the festivities.
   34. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:06 PM (#5454620)
Cubs about to take a big lead here, as Brett Cecil has come in to relieve Leake.
   35. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:08 PM (#5454622)
TV showed Craig Counsell standing in the dugout with 2 coaches to his left. The guy in the middle is as big as a house, making Counsell look like a high school kid.
   36. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:08 PM (#5454623)
La Stella hits a homerun to make it 3-0 Cubs.
   37. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:08 PM (#5454624)
Grichuk probably should have caught that La Stella homerun though.
   38. zack Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:09 PM (#5454625)
rolled up the catcher's glove arm

His first name is Jett. Two t's.
   39. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:10 PM (#5454626)
Cecil vs three lefties of the Cubs.... fly ball on the right field warning track, homerun, and walk. 13 pitches, 6 strikes....
   40. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:10 PM (#5454627)
His first name is Jett. Two t's.

Yes, he's a Bandy. I remember him from the pilot episode of ST:TNG.

Meanwhile, Jay Bruce go TOOTBLAN. Thrown out trying to retreat from too big a lead off 2B. Inning over.

EDIT: I bet Harvey wishes he'd stayed in bed this afternoon.
   41. Walt Davis Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:14 PM (#5454628)
I was kinda hoping the Cubs were going to sign Cecil this past offseason.
   42. Lassus Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:15 PM (#5454629)
I was just starting to think this game looked winnable.
   43. Lassus Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:15 PM (#5454630)
Oh Harvey.
   44. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:16 PM (#5454631)
Well, at least the bases were empty for that one.
   45. zack Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:17 PM (#5454632)
I guess Collins still doesn't know when to take Harvey out. You'd think that would be one lesson he'd learned.
   46. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:20 PM (#5454633)
I was kinda hoping the Cubs were going to sign Cecil this past offseason.

I wish they would have.
   47. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:22 PM (#5454634)
Hard to believe that is only Grichuk's 4th homerun of the year...

   48. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:25 PM (#5454635)
Edgin into his motion...juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust a bit outside. He tried the corner and missed.

I was kinda hoping the Cubs were going to sign Cecil this past offseason.

A bunch of my fellow Toronto fans lamented the long time Jays pitcher leaving the fold when it happened, but I knew he wasn't worth that kind of money.
As I've mentioned before, he hasn't put together a whole season of great relief pitching in his career.
He is either "meh" for the whole season (3+ ERA), or he's has an amazing half (sub 2) and a terrible half (4+), order chosen at random.

Last year it was terrible first half, INJURY, meh second half.

Signing him for $30million guaranteed (4 seasons) was a crazy idea and I'm glad some other team did it.

   50. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:30 PM (#5454637)
Hey CFB, a fellow Nats tweeter wonders who the Cards commentator is who "drones on and on like Reggie Miller". Ideas?
   51. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:30 PM (#5454638)
I had to check my comment in 47.... It just seems like he hasn't been hitting homeruns at his normal pace....and his first three seasons he averaged a homerun per 20 at bats, and this year it is 1 per 40 at bats.(his rookie year he started out much like he has this year, 110 ab, 3 hr, this year 123 ab(coming into tonights game) and 3 hr, but outside of those two stretches, he just routinely crushes the ball.
   52. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:31 PM (#5454639)

I'm assuming it's Edmonds. If he is watching this game.

Fowler's a double agent!
   54. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:36 PM (#5454641)
It's Edmonds. Not impressed.
   55. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:37 PM (#5454642)
You have to be ####### kidding me... Fowler picked off by Contreras... these pick offs have become way too frequent and have become rally killers.

   56. salvomania Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:37 PM (#5454643)
Ugh Fowler. You're the tying run late in the game with our hottest hitter up.

I'd say job no. 1 is DONT GET PICKED OFF
   57. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:39 PM (#5454644)
Now we bring in our other firestarter, Broxton coming into the 8th inning of a game that we are losing only 3-1, in which the heart of the lineup is coming to bat in the next inning..... not a good move by Matheny. Of course Broxton being on the roster is not a good move period... he needs to be dumped. (and I'm going to keep saying it, dump Broxton, move Mark Montgomery to the 40 man roster and promote him right now)
   58. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:41 PM (#5454647)
Okay, after two batters Broxton is actually looking good.
   59. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:43 PM (#5454650)
Bullets/Wizards win Game 6 by the skin of their teeth, live to play Game 7. D.C. sports giveth, and D.C. sports taketh the night off.
   60. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:50 PM (#5454655)
It's Edmonds. Not impressed.

I liked Edmonds his first few weeks as an announcer, he had the trait you want from the color man in that he was close enough to the game that he could pick up stuff that people who didn't play the game at that level very likely couldn't....but he is a sycophant to all players and outside of a few very young players, is rarely critical of anyone and in fact goes overboard in praise(I made fun of the fact that he called Votto one of the best defensive first baseman he ever seen---coming from a guy who played on the same team as a peak Albert Pujols)

   61. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 10:51 PM (#5454656)
Edmonds is agreeing with 56.... "with a guy like Pham who is hot, you work all game to get the tying run in place for him to come up to bat."
   62. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:01 PM (#5454657)
Cut on the OAK-TEX game to see Casilla give up a sac fly to Napoli to score PETE M.F. KOZMA from 3B to tie the game in the bottom 9th. Will that cockroach ever die??!!

Now comes Joey Gallo. With predictable results.
   63. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:10 PM (#5454658)
Winning streak ends....pfftt... well let's start another one tomorrow.
   64. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:14 PM (#5454659)
Grichuk with a steal in which the pitcher didn't give one rat's ass about holding him, and Contreras made a very strong throw showing off the arm, he was safe by a mile, and Contreras probably shouldn't have even thrown it, but at the same time it was an impressive throw if you remove everything from the equation.
   65. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:15 PM (#5454661)
Um, the game is still going
   66. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:16 PM (#5454662)
So much for that strong arm
   67. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:17 PM (#5454663)
Goddayum CFB, how can you quit on your team so easily? It aint over til it's over, as we just saw.
   68. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:18 PM (#5454665)
Strikeout, ball in dirt run scores and batter goes to second... that was ridiculous.
   69. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:19 PM (#5454666)
You almost knew that was gonna happen.
   70. cardsfanboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:19 PM (#5454667)
damnit, nobody scored on that last strikeout.
   71. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:20 PM (#5454668)
E-2. It was a high throw, although Rizzo maybe could've put a lil more effort into jumping higher.
   72. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:29 PM (#5454669)
Umpire (Randazzo?) hurt in Giants game. Listening on radio here.

OK, a Cueto 92mph fastball was foul-tipped into the chin of the umpire's mask, he went down immediately. After a few minutes of examinations it looks like he's staying behind the plate after all.
   73. Snowboy Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:34 PM (#5454670)
Not foul tipped. Straight into his chin, fastball.
   74. Bote Man Posted: May 12, 2017 at 11:43 PM (#5454673)
The Giants open the bottom of the 5th inning with back-to-back bunts for consecutive infield hits. So what does Cueto do in his P.A.? Bunts, this one a sacrifice to move both runners over. Now #Spanning at the plate. I have never seen that before.
   75. Bote Man Posted: May 13, 2017 at 12:32 AM (#5454674)
Brandon Belt batting with 2 outs, bases empty, 2-2 tie game tries to stretch a line drive double to RCF into a triple, but is thrown out at 3B on a great relay throw from Cozart. Inning over.
   76. Snowboy Posted: May 13, 2017 at 01:05 AM (#5454675)
That's Lagunita's Triples Alley! Shouldn't he try?
Hmm, maybe they should have got it sponsored by Haggar, and called it "Stretchy Belt Alley" to give Brandon some pause?
   77. Bote Man Posted: May 13, 2017 at 01:12 AM (#5454678)
Mikey Morse thinks he's Jayson Werth, fouls off a ton of pitches only to fly out to the RF wall in an extra inning 2-2 tie game in S.F. Oh well.
   78. Snowboy Posted: May 13, 2017 at 01:44 AM (#5454683)
Giants home broadcast NBC Bay Area Sports just played a collection of Tony Randazzo's night of knocks behind the plate.
I guestimate it's about 4:36 into the broadcast? After 1st out for Reds, 12th inning.
Takes one off the shoulder, plus bouncer gets him in the hand, plus straight fastball to the chin knocks him down down down, then...cherry on top, foul ball to the junk.
Through it all, pretty consistent behind the plate, good strike zone.
   79. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: May 13, 2017 at 02:26 AM (#5454687)
The Giants game has taken a Hitchcockian turn. So... many... birds....
   80. Snowboy Posted: May 13, 2017 at 02:28 AM (#5454688)
It's the only game still going, so if you are watching, you don't need this update.
Unless maybe you are "watching" with Gameday, and it just says "Game Delayed" or something? And now it's been ten minutes?
Or maybe you are the kind of fool (GUILTY!) who reads OMNICHATTER the day after he works and misses it, or has to go to bed and wants to know about the late games, courtesy of your distant online friends at Baseball Primer BBTF
...if that's you...the Reds@Giants game is mysteriously delayed at the top of the 14th inning, and the skimpy info that I have is that home plate ump Tony Randazzo cannot continue. As noted above, he's had a rough night behind the plate with foul balls and pitches that hit him directly.
Players are standing around in clusters, Denard Span is jogging in from CF, and ump crew chief Jerry (Gerry?) Davis is heading down the tunnel. Another 10 minutes for gear-up?
   81. Snowboy Posted: May 13, 2017 at 02:42 AM (#5454690)
GAME ON!

(No runs, move to next inning. Check box score online tomorrow for result.)
   82. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 13, 2017 at 03:04 AM (#5454691)
There's always a danger when you check Extra Inningsā„¢ to catch the end of the games still going on when the East Coast action is over. The Giants - Reds are just toying with us at this point. Didn't really care much about the game, but now I'm sorta invested in seeing the outcome.
   83. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: May 13, 2017 at 03:17 AM (#5454692)
The Reds are wasting a ton of opportunities. To the bottom of 16.
   84. PeteF3 Posted: May 13, 2017 at 03:19 AM (#5454693)
We may well be seeing Bronson Arroyo: Outfielder if this game goes on. No position players left for the Reds and Billy Hamilton has re-aggravated an oblique injury. He's gutting it out for now but is in a lot of pain in center.
   85. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: May 13, 2017 at 03:45 AM (#5454695)
Buster Posey gonna Buster Posey. He knew it as soon as he hit it.
   86. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: May 13, 2017 at 03:46 AM (#5454696)
I decide to turn on the Giants-Reds after seeing the posts here and I only get to watch 2 ABs and it's over.
