HOW WILL THE PHILLIES LOSE TODAY?

Let me give you a hint:

The top 7 players in bWAR are pitchers, and 10 out of the top 12 are pitchers.

Did Harrison Bader just score from 1st on a single????

EDIT: never mind, I wasn't paying attention and apparently RF Adam Eaton had a bobble
   4. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 04, 2018 at 07:48 PM (#5738566)
He did.

Mlb tonight was showing a highlight from earlier. Turner was thrown out at 2nd on a walk; he momentarily lost contact with the bag on the "steal" attempt. What ####### garbage side effect from replay.

With or without the bobble he was going to probably score on that play. The fielder wasn't even aware that Bader was going to score and handled it as a routine stop the batter from advancing to second type of play.

it sounded to me like dan couldn't quite remember the RF name ...

heh

Mike Trout was HBP in the knee. Trailing on a double steal, he does not look like he's running awesome.

MLB TV on the computer is really pissing me off lately. The game never returns from commercial. This last break I refreshed at the start of the 6th or 7th commercial in time to see the second batter of the inning ground out.
   9. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 04, 2018 at 08:30 PM (#5738583)
OK, so Porcello set to go his usual 6 2/3 and give up 3-4 runs. Already a solo shot to Kurt Suzuki!, Sox down 1-0 in the 3rd, but Braves threatening.

Sox will need to score 5 to win this...
   10. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 04, 2018 at 08:32 PM (#5738585)
Might have to re-think Porcello going 6+, up to 71 pitches and just escaped the 3rd.
   11. Misirlou doesn't live in the restaurant Posted: September 04, 2018 at 08:34 PM (#5738586)
BS strike three call on Montgomery.

Ryan Howard retired today.

soto hit a BOMB, but it was foul ... next pitch, gant makes him look like the rookie he is with a nasty changeup.

It's done that to me before, I just try and time the commercial breaks and hit refresh if it seems like it's gone too long ...

Right. But I'm usually doing other stuff (like posting here), and lose track of time. By the time I realize, I've missed half the inning.
   16. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 04, 2018 at 08:43 PM (#5738594)
Oh, for F***sakes. Bases loaded, no outs, Nunez pops out, Bradley K's....
   17. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 04, 2018 at 08:50 PM (#5738599)
and the Red Sox waste a bases loaded, no out situation and don't score. Is there anything more frustrating to watch when your team is batting?
   18. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 04, 2018 at 08:50 PM (#5738600)
Cubs' pitching the last two innings of yesterday's game and the first two of today's game has been excruciating.
   19. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 04, 2018 at 08:54 PM (#5738602)
lol, Mike Montgomery, everyone.
   20. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 04, 2018 at 08:56 PM (#5738605)
Porcello singles...cat is hitting .429!, Mookie with a BB, 2 on, no outs..again...
   21. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 04, 2018 at 08:57 PM (#5738606)
Newcomb living on the edge against the Sox lineup...his MLB photo is dorky, he should request a new one.
   22. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 04, 2018 at 08:57 PM (#5738607)
CSN broadcast is doing a little segment on the Cubs' players' fantasy football draft. Baseball players shouldn't be allowed to be fans of the lessest of the lesser sports.
   23. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 04, 2018 at 08:59 PM (#5738610)
bases loaded again, 1 out this time, Xander at the dish...
   24. phredbird Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:01 PM (#5738613)

geez, wheels come off and gant can't find the strike zone ... bases loaded, shildt with a pitching change.
   25. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:04 PM (#5738616)
woohoo, Xander BB! 1-1, still bases loaded...
   26. phredbird Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:07 PM (#5738618)

webb comes in and gets a quick strikeout ...

but now another full count. it feels like almost every batter in this game has driven the count full ...
   27. phredbird Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:07 PM (#5738621)
ugh, webb walks in a run on a close pitch.

harper up with the bases loaded.
   28. phredbird Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:08 PM (#5738622)

cardinals have walked 16 batters so far in this series. we are in the 5th inning of the second game y'all ...
   29. phredbird Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:10 PM (#5738624)

jesus mary and joseph ... harper doubles.

lucky for us the umps call it a ground rule double.

4-3 cards.
   30. phredbird Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:12 PM (#5738626)
has this half inning taken a half hour?

C R I P E S ....

just walked in the tying run after an intentional walk loaded the bases ...

and now a pitching change ... good god ...

i'm just going behind to the woodshed to shoot myself.
   31. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:13 PM (#5738627)
I feel like I'm always complaining about ball and strike calls, but I've come to realize this is Contreras fault. He really is awful at receiving pitches and actually hurts his pitchers by how he catches borderline calls. He's ranked 2nd to last at framing at bpro and I totally believe it.

Note I'm not complaining about being unable to steal strikes, which he is also terrible at. The Cubs lose so many strikes with him back there.

Like strike 2 to Bryant there - right on the line bottom of the zone. Montgomery had 3 pitches last inning right there all called balls.

Which is why we need robo umps to call balls and strikes. Fooling the umpire should not be an exploitable skill.

Porcello gets through 5, 100 pitches, Sox up 3-1. Maybe they squeeze another inning out of him? The pen is pretty taxed.
   34. phredbird Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:33 PM (#5738641)

huh, i give up on the game to go do something, and now the cardinals turn into babe ruth ... back to back to back dingers?

   38. BDC Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:41 PM (#5738646)
Adrian Beltre hits his 471st home run tonight. But he is getting so far up all the career leaderboards (and doing it so slowly, this year) that he rarely passes or ties anyone these days. Suffice to say he's got some impressive career totals at this point, including 1,691 RBI (28th all-time).
   39. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:42 PM (#5738647)

Right down the middle bottom and willson drops his glove and catches it into the ground and earns a ball on a clear strike. Maddening.

Ball 3 to Aguilar.

He really is too spastic. Getting amped up is fine in some situations, but you need some grace to be an effective catcher and Contreras is just so jittery back there.
   42. salvomania Posted: September 04, 2018 at 09:46 PM (#5738650)
Jose Martinez, the anti-Carpenter, is now 0-for-9 this year with the bases loaded (Carpenter is hitting over .500).

See post 32. A pitch is a strike depending on where it crosses the plat, not on how the catcher catches it. As a HS umpire it drives me mad when coaches yell out to the catcher to catch the ball properly or don't drop it and the umpire will give you the strike. t's insulting, as if I'm going to be influenced by how a teenager catches the ball. I couldn't care less how the catcher frames the pitch.

Welp. Addison Russell isn't having a very good night.

I hope we don't look back a few weeks from now and view this series as a critical turning point in the season.

Not out of it yet despite the score.

Losing is one thing; nothing wrong with being beat by a good time. But this series has been filled with walks, HBP, and errors from the Cubs.
   50. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 04, 2018 at 10:19 PM (#5738679)
Can't blame Contreras for these called balls.

   54. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 04, 2018 at 10:26 PM (#5738685)
So does this Maples guy have an actual putaway pitch, or does he just throw two-strike pitches until he can hit or walk the guy?
   55. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 04, 2018 at 10:27 PM (#5738686)
Injured foot for Rizzo.
   56. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 04, 2018 at 10:29 PM (#5738687)
He struck out like 15 per 9 in Iowa. That slider is untouchable, but he can't control it. It was hilarious how much Cain wanted nothing to do with it. That plus 97 is elite reliever stuff. Again though, he has chatwood level control.
   57. phredbird Posted: September 04, 2018 at 10:31 PM (#5738689)

Misirlou, I have noticed a number of weird anomalies with MLB.tv in the past week or so. For example, every time this season that I've tried to listen to Bob Uecker on the Brewers radio overlay the audio is some 9 seconds behind the video, so it's unusable. The problem has been consistent and long-standing. I wrote that off to some weirdness specific to the Brewers and MLBAM.

Now the past few days the Washington Nationals radio overlay has been getting delayed out of sync from a couple seconds to as much as 12 seconds behind the MASN video. This happened on my Chrome web browser on my very capable desktop machine as well as just now on my Roku 4. But on the Roku I found that if I hit the * star menu and diddled with the audio settings it got the audio back in sync. This doesn't necessarily mean the problem is solely confined to the Roku in that case, but it's likely.

On top of that both TV and the straight radio feeds on the browser would just die at random times unrelated to commercial breaks. I did some research where they suggested clearing your cookies and stored data, trying it in Private/Incognito mode, disabling ad blocker, etc. I tried incognito mode and it worked for a longer time, but it still died once on me.

I've never had any problems of this magnitude before and they started popping up left and right recently. Who knows? I think MLBAM has fortified their support encampment so there's no easy way to contact them. I guess we just have to live with it?

cardinals pitchers finding a way to make an 11-6 lead look fragile.

3 runs scored by the nats, 2 on a double off the glove of munoz in right, who damn near came close to catching a ball over the fence only to have it drop out of his glove into fair territory.

two outs ...
