I'm watching the Tigers feed for the Bauer-Boyd match up and it has a former player-only broadcasts (an article about them was linked a few days ago). It's interesting. They have different guys calling into the show which has kept things lively. The conversation is free flowing but is really interesting when they focus on the game or when they talk about Detroit.

Nate Robertson is way less interesting than the people running this broadcast seem to think.

Was. Not currently, at least outside my window in the Loop. Forecast says it appears to have stopped for the day, but still going to be a nasty night for baseball.

Just 'cause I keep wanting to check in on Rays/Sox, but it won't let me....

Cardinals extend Carpenter another 2 years with a third vesting option, not sure if it starts after 2020 or if it's including that. I have to assume that it does since it was an option year.

Haven't had the chance to talk directly to any of the players/staff on this...but I saw a lot of feedback on moving the mound back from former players in league...and most seemed to think it basically made the league a joke, and predicted they'd lose out on any "higher end" pitchers trying to rebuild their careers there...and in turn ruin any chance of hitters making it back either since teams wouldn't really know how to use the numbers coming out of the league. My guess is that enough of the pitchers and pitching coaches pushed back against this change for them to delay it.

Re: the tracking and statcast - if I had to guess, that its probably 90 % equipment delays and getting everything set up. I have no idea how much new equipment is needed in the park - but when I worked for Long Island, we'd occasionally have a TV broadcast, and there were not a lot of places to conveniently place the television cameras and other gear, so I wouldn't doubt their having some issues bringing it all together.

Heh..."pushed back" - I'm picturing a team of groundskeepers on the home plate side of the mound, trying to move it back, and a group of pitchers on the second base side, pushing it back into place.

RAYS FACTS:

* They are 10-3.
* They have a team ERA of 1.93
* They have stolen 14 bases in 14 attempts.
* Their regular infield is Ji-Man Choi, Brandon Lowe, Willy Adames, Yandy Diaz
* They have won their last 9 million trades.

Interesting that Al Hrabosky isn't doing the pre-game with Erica Weston, he made a glib comment the other day that might have been taken the wrong way (not sexist, but more or less completely demeaned her comment in a very dismissive way---he wasn't wrong, but I don't think he would have responded the same way if it was a male announcer)
   23. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 07:40 PM (#5830624)
I find that trivia hard to believe, they said that Bryce Harper's homerun was the first time a number one draft pick homered off of a number one draft pick.....
   24. phredbird Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:12 PM (#5830628)

i really hate MLBTV and their effed up blackout restrictions.

i live in god - d@mned Palm Springs, and i am blacked out of the dodgers. that's more than TWO HOURS away on light traffic days, which there are none in CA.
   25. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:20 PM (#5830630)
agree, they are archaic and really need to be revisited.
   26. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:22 PM (#5830631)
In those situations, Reddit and VPN are your friends.
   27. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:22 PM (#5830632)
honestly I think that if I'm willing to pay for mlb.tv then there should be no blackout option. They can force me to watch the "local" broadcast with commercials when I'm in a certain area, I would be fine with that and I think that even the tv people would be fine with that. I mean I had a travelling job across the country and used mlb.tv for Cardinal games if I'm in Florida and the Cardinals were playing the Marlins, I would be perfectly fine with being forced to watch the Marlins broadcast as part of my mlb.tv option.

   28. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:23 PM (#5830633)
I honestly think that FSMW has been issued orders to denigrate Ozuna and Fowler as much as possible. I've never seen them attack players as much as they have those two this year.
   29. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:24 PM (#5830634)
Is it me, or is Ozuna just a lot thicker than he was in Miami? Or even just last year?
   30. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:25 PM (#5830636)
Fantastic steal by Ozuna.... steals third but he had no chance of being caught by the catcher.
   31. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:25 PM (#5830637)
Is it me, or is Ozuna just a lot thicker than he was in Miami? Or even just last year?

I think so. But the beard throws me.
   32. Bote Man Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:26 PM (#5830638)
Eight straight games with an extra-base hit for Anthony Rendon. He just drove a 2-out, bases loaded pitch into CF to clear the bases and earn his moniker, Tony Two Bags. The man is ON FAHR. Bryce who??
   33. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:27 PM (#5830639)
On facebook, they posted a video of Wainwright and Molina singing Friends in low places (or whatever the title is) ...1. it's a fun video. 2. neither Waino or Molina should think about a singing career.... 3. It's clear that Fowler is well liked by the team just by his interaction in the video. 4. I had no clue who the other white guy was in the video.
   34. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:28 PM (#5830640)
Still not getting it... McCarver has a hard on for bashing Ozuna and Fowler.
   35. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:31 PM (#5830641)
Eight straight games with an extra-base hit for Anthony Rendon.
I assume he's going to get the contract offer Harper thought he was gonna get?
   36. Bote Man Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:32 PM (#5830642)
Sam Fortier @Sam4TR
In his last seven games, Anthony Rendon is 12-for-26 (.462). He has nine extra-base hits (six doubles, three homers), four walks and 10 RBI. Pretty, pretty good.
   37. Dog on the sidewalk Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:36 PM (#5830644)
Jeff McNeil with some terrible, terrible baserunning could end up really costing the Mets tonight.
   38. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:40 PM (#5830645)
And in other news...the Red Sox will NOT lose today!

Rendon is great and underrated.
Carpenter extension is a smart move by St. Louis
Yes, if you pay for MLBtv there should be no blackouts(I live in Sydney, so no issues here!)

* Their regular infield is Ji-Man Choi, Brandon Lowe, Willy Adames, Yandy Diaz

The Rays awesomeness never ceases to amaze.
   39. Edmundo got dem ol' Kozma blues again mama Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:41 PM (#5830646)
xFIP god Nick Pivetta got his 6 Ks in 3.2 innings but gave up 7 runs 7 hits 3 walks including a bases loaded one. The guy sucks and needs to go down to minors, immediately.
   40. Dog on the sidewalk Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:43 PM (#5830647)
Starting with the no. 7 hitter, the Mets last 5 PAs have gone walk, walk, walk, HBP, walk.
   41. Howie Menckel Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:45 PM (#5830648)
The Twins have yanked their starter with a lead and two outs in the 5th - one out away from being eligible for a win - on back-to-back nights.

of course, both starters walked multiple batters with 2 outs, so they dug their own graves.

tonight the Mets trailed 1-0 when a reliever came on and allowed a HBP, a BB and a BB - all with the bases loaded. the starter has to be thinking, "well, crap, I could have done that!"
   42. Dog on the sidewalk Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:45 PM (#5830649)
Make that walk, walk, walk, HBP, walk, walk.
   43. JJ1986 Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:47 PM (#5830650)
One of the guys Odorizzi walked with two outs was Syndergaard.
   44. Dog on the sidewalk Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:48 PM (#5830651)
They now have 3 runs on 1 hit in the inning, and the 1 hit TOOTBLANed his way into the dugout.
   45. Dog on the sidewalk Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:50 PM (#5830652)
The third pitcher of the inning comes in and walks Conforto on 4 pitches. This is hilarious.
   46. JJ1986 Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:50 PM (#5830653)
And they've now brought in a third pitcher who can't find the strike zone.
   47. Davo cant be eatin thirty hot dogs every day Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:51 PM (#5830654)
Terrance Gore is starting in left field tonight.
   48. Dog on the sidewalk Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:51 PM (#5830655)
A strike, and a hit!
   49. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:51 PM (#5830656)
I know I'm about to jinx the Cardinals, but I thought that this Dodger team was supposed to be a historically great offensive team?
   50. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:52 PM (#5830657)
Now that's a crooked number.

The Twins have communicable Steve Blass disease. Vaccinate your pitchers, coaches.
   51. Dog on the sidewalk Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:53 PM (#5830658)
Jeff McNeil ruins everything. 6 runs on 2 hits is acceptable, I guess.
   52. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:54 PM (#5830659)
Audible booing in Philadelphia as Nationals lead 9-0 in 5th.
   53. Howie Menckel Posted: April 10, 2019 at 08:59 PM (#5830661)
fans left gasping at CitiField with the breakneck pace of the action:
ground out
single
walk
walk
force out
walk
HBP
walk
walk
walk
single
K

but what the heck, 6 runs are 6 runs
   54. Dog on the sidewalk Posted: April 10, 2019 at 09:02 PM (#5830662)
No force out, Howie. McNeil pausing between 3rd and home on a WP, getting himself tagged out.
   55. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 09:05 PM (#5830663)
Ozuna giving McCarver more ammunition to bag on him.
   56. JJ1986 Posted: April 10, 2019 at 09:15 PM (#5830665)
I've only seen the last 3 innings, but Thor looks really good tonight.
   57. Dog on the sidewalk Posted: April 10, 2019 at 09:18 PM (#5830669)

That's 4 HRs in this series and none of them have been anything less than a bomb.
   59. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 09:30 PM (#5830671)
Dodger's just hit their first homerun of the series.
   60. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 09:38 PM (#5830672)
Dodgers making terrible defensive choices in the outfield on back to back plays.
   61. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 09:42 PM (#5830673)
Yadier having a nice series.
   62. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 10, 2019 at 09:42 PM (#5830674)
Molina en fuego.

more or less.
   65. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 10, 2019 at 09:54 PM (#5830678)
I don't understand why Max Muncy is still doing the thing where he's really good, but... fourth homer.
   66. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 09:55 PM (#5830680)
Molina last five games has been pretty good. Still not enough to make his offensive numbers respectable, but at least it shows he has sharpened his swing...
   67. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 10, 2019 at 09:56 PM (#5830681)
The Dodger broadcast cannot show the Ozuna bellyflop often enough.
   68. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:02 PM (#5830682)
Nationals have scored 23 unanswered runs against the Phillies (so far) over the last 2 games. 14-0 in 7th.
   69. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:13 PM (#5830683)
Mike Trout's hurt, so the Angels put their third best defensive centerfielder in center, move their second baseman to left field, and and sit their best defensive centerfielder.

   70. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:21 PM (#5830684)
I assume the Carpenter extension was a good signing, but I haven't heard the dollar amount.

On the facebook live feed people kept complaining "that blocks Gorman" and a few people pointed out that Gorman is only 18 years old, he's probably not reaching the majors until 2022 anyway. He's in single A, sure he's killing it after 6 games, but c'mon be realistic. He absolutely has a hole in his swing and is a few years away.
   71. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:22 PM (#5830685)
Phillies Position Player Aaron Altherr Pitching - hitting 90 on radar gun. Too little, too late?
   72. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:25 PM (#5830687)
What's McCarver saying about Ozuna now?
   73. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:25 PM (#5830688)
Ozuna having a good game offensively.... two run shot off the fair pole.
   74. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:26 PM (#5830689)
What's McCarver saying about Ozuna now?

literally nothing... he won't say anything.

Oops he replied "pitcher left the ball out in the middle"
   75. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:27 PM (#5830690)
Now McLaughlin is going over Yadier's resume while the camera's is focusing on Ozuna. (note Molina batted two batters before Ozuna)
   76. Bote Man Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:29 PM (#5830691)
Nationals have scored 23 unanswered runs against the Phillies (so far) over the last 2 games. 14-0 in 7th.

Aaron Altherr K'd Dozier and Gomes on 90mph fastballs, looked not too shabby. But it's now 15-0 after Matt Adams poked a grounder past 2B to score Howie Kendrick.

Now Trevor Rosenthal will see if he can protect a 15-run lead. Hold on to your butts.

BREAKING: Trevor Rosenthal has struck out Knapp. Champagne corks will fly!
   77. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:32 PM (#5830692)

   82. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:40 PM (#5830699)
7-2 Cardinals... Dodgers who were averaging 8.4 runs a game have managed to put up 5 runs over 3 games.
   83. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:40 PM (#5830700)

   84. cardsfanboy Posted: April 10, 2019 at 10:46 PM (#5830701)
12 games into the season and Yadier has played every inning of every game... mind you one of those innings was as a third baseman. But Wieters has to realize what he signed up for.

I assume there is an issue of being allowed to do so. I don't know WHY that would be but I assume that's the case. I just wish if they were going to give us highlights of past plays they would mix it up rather than showing the same 5 or 6 highlights all year.
