In their last 11 games, Rockies starters have allowed 0, 0, 0, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 2, 0, and 2 earned runs.

Coley Harvey, ESPN Staff Writer

To cap his first day as New York's newest pro sports coach, the Knicks' new leader, David Fizdale, will throw out the first pitch before tonight's Red Sox/Yankees game in the Bronx.

Probably the high point of his career.

The Yankees have had some success off Red Sox starter Drew Pomeranz, especially Gary Sanchez, who has 3 HRs in 18 ABs, with a .444/.444/1.000 slash line

And the Angel starters have been... not as good (though much better in Seattle than at home against NY). Also, no DH means no Shohei except perhaps as a pinch hitter. That hurts the Angels, but they have a winning record and they're in first place. I can't be crying doom and gloom all the time when things are relatively good.
   20. Panik on the streets of London (Trout! Trout!) Posted: May 08, 2018 at 03:10 PM (#5668624)

He could always come out of the bullpen. This is their first game in an NL park - have the Angels definitely said Ohtani won't play the field? He probably hasn't been shagging flies very much....

He hasn't played the field as a professional since 2014, so I seriously doubt they'll let him do that now. Besides, Scioscia's been handling him as if he were made of Fabergé eggs. If he does anything other than pinch-hit, I'd be stunned.

D-Backs at Dodgers is a big one, too. The defending NL champs are already 8 games back of Arizona. It could be an even 10 games by the end of tomorrow.

This makes me so happy to read. It's been nearly a decade since the division-winning days of the Vlad Guerrero Angels, which means it's been nearly a decade since fans in other markets care one lick about the Angels. The impact of Ohtani cannot be understated; the team drew over 100,000 at home for a mid-week 3-game series against Baltimore, and the three games they just played in Seattle was the Mariner's most well-attended 3-game series of the year thus far. It's really excited to know that not only is my team playing well this, year, but that they are actually matters to people outside the local area.

I'm happy for you. There are so many compelling players. Trout, Simmons, Pujols even to a degree, and now Ohtani. I'm glad they're usually on at night so if I feel like burning the midnight oil I can watch a double header. I hope they make the playoffs and the world gets to see Trout et. al. on national television.

Will it hit off the heal of the glove and bounce half-way back to the pitcher's mound?

I'm happy for you
DID WE JUST BECOME BEST FRIENDS?!

You cats need to get a room.

Pomeranz has no chance.

Oh there's a chance. Not a good one, but still a chance. I'm not even sure how you pitch to NY unless your stuff is electric and you can induce a lot of swinging strikes. Drew Pomeranz is not that pitcher.
I'm hoping this is the week that NY decides to hit a slump. You know how teams just go into a funk and lose like 4 out 5? Make a few mental mistakes, bad baserunning decisions, miss the cutoff man; those types of things.
If Boston can win one 6-5 type of game, I'd be happy. To win 2 would be miraculous, the pitching matchups are not good for the Red Sox.
   42. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: May 08, 2018 at 06:59 PM (#5668801)
There once was a guy named Pomeranz, who wanted to strike out the Yanks, he miserably failed, he cried and he wailed, and then had to sell off his Benz.

Price, scheduled for tomorrow, has been sent back to Boston for further tests on his pitching hand.

Porcello moves up one day and will pitch on normal rest, E-Rod on Thursday now.

   47. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: May 08, 2018 at 07:25 PM (#5668821)
They got Mesoraco and some cash, so I think it's as good a deal as the Mets could hope for. I assume the Mets have to pay almost all of Harvey's salary, too.

EDIT: OMG, Mesoraco was making almost twice as much as Harvey? Never mind.
   48. Chip Posted: May 08, 2018 at 07:28 PM (#5668823)
Any clean inning from Pomeranz is a miracle given his current level of performance.
   49. Dog on the sidewalk Posted: May 08, 2018 at 07:30 PM (#5668824)
Nido and Lobaton both look realllly useless. Mesoraco has been useful at times and is now the Mets starting catcher. Good deal for the Mets, given that I expected nothing.
   50. Howie Menckel Posted: May 08, 2018 at 07:33 PM (#5668826)
looking forward to Harvey's first start at home - all fans in the OF seats will receive an authentic Reds batting helmet that must be worn at all times when the visitors bat!

"I don't know what the odds are in that BOS/NY game but if I were in a locale with legalized sports gambling..."

that could be New Jersey by the end of the month, if the US Supreme Court rules its way on any of the next couple of Mondays (otherwise a ruling comes in June)

over-under on judges on NJ's side is 6 - but if you look hard enough, you may be able to find action at 5.5

Cardinals lost two games in a row to the Twins..... The consensus Cardinals analyst response to this debacle was "The Cardinals just can't win without Yadier." "It's like they lost their soul.".... and no.... I'm not kidding about this the post game broadcast basically led with that... The Cardinals announcers even said. "that first game, was like Yadier was still with them.... but eventually they realized he wasn't." (note these are paraphrases even though I'm making them quotes.)

Umm.... the Cardinals lost, because teams lose games.... especially in baseball, the only real sport that has truly close to 50% odds. There is a reason why baseball is best.... good teams lose to bad teams fairly frequently....

Just looked up Dylan Bundy... 1-4 record so far this year with a 3.76 era....... how bad is the offense of the Orioles that he has a 1-4 record...then I looked up the innings pitched, 41(roughly) innings pitched in 7 starts.... which comes out to just under 6 ip....and that seems a bit low for a guy with a 3.76 era.... In my opinion...

tonight his era is going to blow up of course... but still it seems weird that a guy has a 1-4 record while pitching pretty good...

Why would it be near zero? He has to be on the 25 man roster, unless you think the Reds rotation is going to dominate against the Met's it pretty much has to be assumed he'll pitch against them.

I was going on the assumption that he wasn't actually already there at the park, which MLBTR seems to confirm with this: "Harvey will join the Reds later this week in Los Angeles, the team announced."

Mesoraco's available for the Mets though.

Wow, returned from another meeting, Pomeranz hanging in, 6IP, 2ER, I would've taken that to start the game.
OK Sox, let's eek out a run somewhere..

The Yankees have played terribly tonight, Sanchez in particular. Now they will probably have to send Betances out there. Gahh.

I really hope Ohtani gets a chance to hit today. They're showing footage of him in BP putting balls into the upper deck at Coors Field. Not the second deck, the third deck.

Good couple of games for Paxton.

Green, I think.

[edit] With that, who knows ...

Robles has now allowed 5 HR in 10 IP for the Mets this season, which seems like a lot

he did replace Harvey on the roster - maybe it's his form of tribute

I generally don't post things like #75 after only five innings, but Paxton looked just incredible tonight (although it took a great play from Seager to save it). I just had a feeling tonight. He had one 100 mph pitch in the ninth. He was just getting stronger...

I think Max Scherzer still holds the record for best back-to-back starts by a pitcher in history, but it's close now:

June 14 2015: Complete game 1-hit shutout with 16 Ks and 1 BB.

June 20, 2015: No-hitter with 10 Ks and 1 BB.

Is that including the one to Gennett just now that made me change the channel?

Robles is the Glendon Rusch of relievers.

Good for Paxton. Wasn't he shafted by the Jays for having an advisor during the draft?

[edit] Yup, Scott Boras.

Might not matter but that was not a smart play by Gardner on Mookie's hit.
