Orioles Game of Thrones and the Way Forward

The Orioles are one of the worst teams in baseball and it’s clear this team needs to be rebuilt…Looking at this whole situation, it appears the dust is starting to settle, and the winner of this interesting saga looks to be Brady Anderson. Anderson has been quoted as saying he wasn’t seeking out new responsibilities, but if they were to come he would take them on.

Winter is coming.

This is interesting and in-depth. Don't let the headline fool you into thinking it's some clickbait listicle that says Showalter is Stannis etc ...

Back to the Angelos glory days after a brief respite.

Incidentally, Dylan Bundy, over his last three starts: 9 IP, 23 hits, 9 HR, 19 ER.

He's been giving up homers to Wilson Ramos and Alex Gordon and probably Moon Boy for all I know.

It is an excellent article, well worth everyone's time to read, and highlights that "having a good owner" (which everybody wants) means more than heaving money at this year's bright, shiny free-agent. Putting smart people in place in a viable organizational structure and then staying out of their way is a key part of that equation, but being very successful and rich and a believer in your own skills at everything must make it tempting for owners to "dabble". It is pretty clear from this article that Peter Angelos is not a good owner.

Yeah, it's long but worth the time.

Incidentally, Dylan Bundy, over his last three starts: 9 IP, 23 hits, 9 HR, 19 ER.

I hope not but anytime I see a pitcher who is usually good do this sort of thing my mind flashes "INJURY" in big, flashing letters.

Incidentally, Dylan Bundy, over his last three starts: 9 IP, 23 hits, 9 HR, 19 ER.

Bundy's average Game Score for his first 6 starts: 65

Bundy's average Game Score for his last 3 starts: 18.

And that's using the more lenient BB-Reference system that awarded him a 10 for that last outing.

And then there's Chris Tillman.

Game Score against Detroit on April 27th: 78

Average Game Score for his other 5 starts: 26

That article was definitely...long. I'm sure it was thorough.

Peter Angelos is reportedly no longer involved with the day to day baseball operations. His sons, Lou and John, appear to have taken on ownership decision making roles.

Everything about Angelos has always made him seem like a poor man's George Steinbrenner. Having his two sons take over the team as his health fades is just icing on that cake.

Lots of descriptions of meals?

I wish I had skipped the series of chapters about the Mark Trumbo story arc, of his meandering journey in pursuit of a super high fly ball that ultimately goes nowhere because Adam Jones calls him off and makes the catch.

I'll admit I expected them to be middling, not doubly atrocious. Tillman and Cobb have both cratered; the pen is a mess outside of Bleier. So what assets they got?

4 months of Machado obviously. Bundy and Gausman might bring some value back. If he maintains, Cashner can be moved for something. If the bat can recover a bit, the last 2 months of Jones might be of interest to somebody. Schoop and Beckham have some value but need to start hitting again. Unless they've got more talent in the minors than I know (certainly possible), it's gonna be a long, slow rebuild.

I don't think that level of detail, and going back that far, is really necessary to show that the Orioles current set-up is untenable. Be concise, damn it. I doubt anything improves under the current ownership, although Angelos might get lucky for a few years at a time.
