OT - 2017-18 NBA thread (All-Star Weekend to End of Time edition)

I estimate only 10-12 Primates care about the NBA, none of whom can be bothered to curate their own thread to avoid detracting from what this site is really about:  eliminationist rhetoric and precognition.

JC agreed. Stevens needs to get on him about that. Loving Tatum and Hosford so far
   5202. SteveF Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:11 PM (#5680456)
Looking like the no defense, 7 turnover version of the 44 point LeBron James is what the Cavs are getting tonight.
   5203. PJ Martinez Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:12 PM (#5680457)
"LeBron had no assists in the 1st quarter, the first time this postseason he's gone without an assist in the 1st quarter. The Cavaliers were 0-3 off his passes, all uncontested 3-pointers."
5204. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:17 PM (#5680458)
Horford is looking really good tonight.
   5205. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:20 PM (#5680459)
And LBJ doesn't look to have the same energy.
   5206. Crosseyed and Painless Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:20 PM (#5680460)
This game is over.
   5207. SteveF Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:21 PM (#5680462)
This game is over.

5 or 6 more Marcus Morris turn around jump shots and the Cavs could be right back in this thing.
   5208. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:22 PM (#5680463)
And Cleveland's gotten some good looks. Just hitting nothing.
   5209. spivey Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:27 PM (#5680465)
Baynes strikes me as the nba version of a confused old man just yelling at anything that will pay attention to him
   5210. yo la tengo Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:27 PM (#5680466)
I would like to see Jaylen Brown move a little more instead of settling for three pointers
   5211. nick swisher hygiene Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:28 PM (#5680467)
Love looks like Bill Simmons
   5212. yo la tengo Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:30 PM (#5680470)
A seven point lead, make that five points, is not enough right now
   5213. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:30 PM (#5680471)
THis game is not over. Cleveland is hanging tough despite shooting poorly.
5214. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:31 PM (#5680472)
Boston just went ice cold, which will happen when your best offensive players are two kids and Old Man Horford.
   5215. SteveF Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:32 PM (#5680473)
Both teams have missed a lot of open shots.
   5216. PJ Martinez Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:32 PM (#5680474)
Cleveland is hanging tough despite shooting poorly.

It helps that Boston is also shooting poorly. CLE 2-15 from three, BOS 3-16.
5217. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:36 PM (#5680475)
JR Smith is so terrible.
5218. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:40 PM (#5680479)
Why yes, Smart did fake that smack in the face. But it worked.

JR Smith can shoot as much as he wants, as far as I'm concerned.
   5219. spivey Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:43 PM (#5680482)
Jaylen Brown is young and did improve quite a bit this year, so there's legitimate hope for him to continue to improve. But right now he seems like more of a 4th or 5th banana on a contender. He doesn't seem to be able to create against length. To be fair, a lot of guys struggle with that. But Tatum seems to have that pure scorer mentality.
5220. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:50 PM (#5680484)
LeBron does look he is running on fumes.
   5221. PJ Martinez Posted: May 27, 2018 at 09:52 PM (#5680486)
LeBron does look he is running on fumes.

He appeared to take several plays off on the offensive end in the second quarter (and the Cavs got away with it, remarkably).
   5222. Tin Angel Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:00 PM (#5680488)
He appeared to take several plays off on the offensive end in the second quarter

Lue should bench him for the second half, send a message to the young guys.
   5223. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:02 PM (#5680490)
Korver?
5224. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:05 PM (#5680491)
The Cavs really need someone else who can create offense for others.
5225. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:08 PM (#5680493)
Fuuuuuuuuuuck.
   5226. stevegamer Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:08 PM (#5680494)
Lue is not a good coach, but he's outdoing himself with crappy substitution patterns this series.
   5227. It's TFTIO's Monster, Actually Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:09 PM (#5680495)
This is just gruesome.
   5228. PJ Martinez Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:10 PM (#5680496)
Mark Jackson just said he loved that LeBron didn't get back on offense after blocking Rozier's shot.
   5229. Crosseyed and Painless Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:10 PM (#5680497)
I was kinda, sorta going for the reverse jinx when I said this was over, but I'm still very surprised I was wrong. Guess I underestimated Boston's potential for a serious drought.
   5230. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:10 PM (#5680498)
Celtics offense is ugly. THEY look tired.
5231. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:10 PM (#5680499)
I have no clue what Rozier was thinking, that was an awful, awful decision.
   5232. nick swisher hygiene Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:11 PM (#5680500)
C's are choking, basically....
5233. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:11 PM (#5680501)
I was going to say "WHY ARE YOU TAKING A SHOT MARCUS?" and then he Marcus Smarts on defense.
   5234. spivey Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:13 PM (#5680502)
I know this is true for any team, but when Boston doesn't shoot well they're painful to watch on offense.
   5235. SteveF Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:13 PM (#5680504)
I know this is true for any team, but when Boston doesn't shoot well they're painful to watch on offense.

They have a lot of players that don't shoot well.
   5236. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:14 PM (#5680505)
I liked that he rested. Forget the staredown nonsense. Take a break when you can if you're LBJ. I feel like he's dominating at about 50% of his energy level. He's exhausted, and still got this team in the game.
5237. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:15 PM (#5680506)
Both sides are shooting pretty poorly, except, of course, James. I fear Korver is going to come back in and have his touch.
5238. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:15 PM (#5680507)
I agree, James was taking a rest at a good time.
5239. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:15 PM (#5680508)
LBJ has been a bit sloppy with the ball, will only play good defense at times, and I think are his concessions to age and fatigue. He can no longer carry a superhuman load on offense and defense.
   5240. Tin Angel Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:19 PM (#5680509)
What the hell is Mark Jackson talking about RE: Kyrie?
   5241. It's TFTIO's Monster, Actually Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:19 PM (#5680510)
These teams are bad.
   5242. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:20 PM (#5680511)
56 points through 3 quarters. This is horrible.
   5243. Crosseyed and Painless Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:21 PM (#5680512)
The Raptors got swept by this Cleveland team. But I still sort of want my Pistons to hire Casey. I think?
   5244. SteveF Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:21 PM (#5680513)
Smart, Brown, Rozier are a combined 7-36, 2-21 from 3.
   5245. jmurph Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:21 PM (#5680514)
Not following the thread so I'm sure you guys are on this already, but their point guard play is going to send Boston home in an otherwise winnable game. Just garbage, garbage decision-making, especially from Rozier.
5246. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:22 PM (#5680516)
What the hell is Mark Jackson talking about RE: Kyrie?

In general, what the heck is Mark Jackson saying? He adds nothing to the broadcast.
   5247. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:22 PM (#5680517)
TA: He said, he'd rather have Kyrie in the building than an assistant coach. Because he's very important to the team. More important than an assistant coach.
   5248. yo la tengo Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:22 PM (#5680518)
Tin, it sounds like Kyrie. is not in the building. If true it is pretty weird
   5249. It's TFTIO's Monster, Actually Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:23 PM (#5680519)
I am having sweaty flashbacks to early '90s ball, here.
   5250. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:24 PM (#5680520)
I said the other day that Boston wasn't that talented and were running Morris and Rozier out there for important minutes and everyone was like, woah, Rozier! He's hot today. I'm not a fan. He can score. At times. But he's not a good PG. IMHO.
   5251. spivey Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:24 PM (#5680521)
Rozier is hardly a point guard. He just seems like a straight gunner. He averages about 4 assists per 36, which is garbage.

Big quarter here.
5252. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:24 PM (#5680522)
Ahahahaha, #### you Lebron.
   5253. spivey Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:25 PM (#5680524)
Horford is so much better and springier this year than he was last (iirc). I didn't think he had this kind of overall playoff performance that he's had this year in him anymore.
5254. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:26 PM (#5680525)
Big quarter here.

This take is scorching hot.
   5255. It's TFTIO's Monster, Actually Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:29 PM (#5680527)
The difference between the national broadcast teams and the local ones is pretty staggering; at least, the good local crews are so much better than the national ones, it's hilarious.
5256. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:30 PM (#5680528)
Four team fouls for the Cavs within three minutes.

Clarkson is useless.
   5257. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:30 PM (#5680529)
Korver is the difference maker, if he can stay on the court. The only guy who can really shoot.
5258. there isn't anything to do in buffalo but 57i66135 Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:31 PM (#5680530)
They have a lot of players that don't shoot well.

it would have been nice if any of them remembered that when they were playing the sixers.
Rozier is hardly a point guard. He just seems like a straight gunner. He averages about 4 assists per 36, which is garbage.
still a 3:1 A:TO ratio. in these playoffs he's near 6 AST/36 and 5:1 A:TO
5259. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:31 PM (#5680531)
Jaylen Brown has been awful tonight.
   5260. Tin Angel Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:32 PM (#5680532)
Nance is out of his element.
5261. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:32 PM (#5680533)
Nance is also useless.
   5262. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:33 PM (#5680535)
Prediction: Boston loses.
5263. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:33 PM (#5680536)
Marcus Morris is useless.
   5264. It's TFTIO's Monster, Actually Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:33 PM (#5680537)
What are the hell was that? That looked like something I'd do.
   5265. Tin Angel Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:34 PM (#5680538)
I'm going to go out on a limb and say LeBron doesn't foul out.
   5266. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:35 PM (#5680539)
LBJ could kill Adam Silver's mother, and he's not getting that 6th foul called tonight.
5267. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:38 PM (#5680540)
I'd be intersted to see Rozier out and Smart in his place, just to keep them from switching him onto LeBron.... and that's what they have!
5268. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:39 PM (#5680541)
Tatum is gonna be a STAH.
5269. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:39 PM (#5680542)
Wow. Tatum posterized LBJ.
5270. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:40 PM (#5680543)
Eh, but they can't have Smart and Morris both in there.
5271. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:40 PM (#5680544)
Tatum is a stud.
5272. there isn't anything to do in buffalo but 57i66135 Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:40 PM (#5680545)

that seems safe.
5273. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:45 PM (#5680547)
LBJ could kill Adam Silver's mother, and he's not getting that 6th foul called tonight.

LeBron is like having the Lakers of Knicks in the finals -- he brings eyeballs and ratings.

5274. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:46 PM (#5680548)
The Celtics have been in the bonus for 75% of the second half. Let's not go nuts with the biased refereeing.
5275. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:46 PM (#5680550)
2 TO's to rest LeBron.
   5276. yo la tengo Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:47 PM (#5680551)
Has Horford done anything in this quarter? Man, this Boston offense just stinks for stretches, how could they hang with either western team?
   5277. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:48 PM (#5680552)
Yeah, wth is that?
   5278. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:50 PM (#5680555)
I thought Baynes was effective. I'm surprised he's not gotten any run.
   5279. yo la tengo Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:52 PM (#5680556)
Terrible terrible sequence there by Boston
   5280. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:52 PM (#5680557)
Awful, stupid bball by Boston.
   5281. spivey Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:52 PM (#5680558)
God I hate the eastern conference
5282. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:53 PM (#5680559)
Holy #### the Celtics can't sink anything.

Rozier having his John Starks moment.
   5285. SteveF Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:54 PM (#5680562)
I'm guessing this puts an end to the trade Kyrie talk.
5286. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:54 PM (#5680563)
Pretty pass by LeBron and prettier finish by Hill.
   5287. jmurph Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:54 PM (#5680564)
As long as I live I will never get over how bad Rozier was tonight. My god.
   5288. Tin Angel Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:54 PM (#5680565)
That's a fantastic pass that he makes look easy.
   5289. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:55 PM (#5680566)
You think Stevens told Rozier to dribble aimlessly and find himself a shot? Eesh. Welp, let's see if GSW can pull off their end of the deal and join LBJ in the Finals.
   5290. greenback slays lewks Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:55 PM (#5680567)
Rozier having his John Starks moment.

Has he headbutted anybody yet?
   5291. smileyy Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:55 PM (#5680568)
So will LeBron get one more assist?
   5292. Hot Wheeling American, MS-13 Enthusiast Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:56 PM (#5680569)
Bill Simmons get any good chants going tonight?
5293. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:56 PM (#5680570)
Maybe Tatum should not have taunted LeBron after the poster.

How strong is LeBron though? Morris grabbed him by the shoulders.
5294. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:56 PM (#5680571)
I can't see this Cavs team taking even one off the Warriors or Rockets. I also couldn't have said the same about the Celtics after tonight.

Ah well. There's always next year.
   5295. greenback slays lewks Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:57 PM (#5680572)
So will LeBron get one more assist?

Can he assist himself and get five more points?
   5296. JC in DC Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:59 PM (#5680573)
Celts should feel good about their future, but man they looked young/inexperienced/bad tonight. I don't like Rozier (as y'all know), I don't like Morris, Smart is gritty and does good stuff, but his offense is wanting. Tatum's real. Brown I'm less optimistic than some of y'all, but he's got good athleticism and is a nice piece. Add Irving and Hayward, and that's a good team.
   5297. smileyy Posted: May 27, 2018 at 10:59 PM (#5680574)
So what's the difference between LeBron James and the Platonic apex of a basketball player? A few more percentage points on his 3pter? 7 feet tall instead of 6'8"?
   5298. aberg Posted: May 27, 2018 at 11:00 PM (#5680575)
I want to give Lebron as much credit as possible, and he was great, but wow Boston, it's hard to win the conference with both hands around your neck.
   5299. yo la tengo Posted: May 27, 2018 at 11:00 PM (#5680576)
Is JVG pretending that this has to do with Lue?
   5300. Tin Angel Posted: May 27, 2018 at 11:00 PM (#5680577)
Ha, yes JVG. It's all about Tyronne Lue.
