Michigan State looks like they're going to ice this one.

Looks like Solich's Ohio team will go to 6-0. Looking pretty strong in the MAC.

Is there any heat on Beamer? I know he's a legend and all, but are people starting to hope he retires?

Well, Florida isn't moving the ball against LSU so far.

On the plus side, UF's punter has been brilliant, and the defense has taken advantage. The game would likely be 0-0 if Jon Bostic hadn't decided that he absolutely had to be a dick and taunt an LSU player on third and 17.
   805. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: October 06, 2012 at 04:14 PM (#4256929)
Clemson looks totally lost against the triple option. I'm calling a GTech win.

EDIT: and for the record, I typed that up when it was 10-7 Clemson.

UW continuing with its 4 play playbook.
   807. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: October 06, 2012 at 05:11 PM (#4256975)
Not that there was much doubt, but LSU's defense is legit.
   808. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: October 06, 2012 at 05:18 PM (#4256986)
Tajh Boyd is Clemson's all-time leader in passing TDs? He's been starting for a year and a half. Clemson's played ball for, like, a hundred years.

RUTGERS!!!!!!

Florida up one late in the third quarter, driving on LSU with the running game.

Just hold on to this game. Please.

14-6 Gators.

One quarter left. One damn quarter.

What the heck are these GTech uniforms? They look like Windows 95 desktop background wallpaper patterns. Looks way cooler than a solid color at first, but you get sick of it within an hour.
   816. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: October 06, 2012 at 07:05 PM (#4257083)
A while back I looked at my work schedule and got very excited to see I had this Wednesday (the debate) and this Friday (NL Wildcard game) off and would be done by noon this Saturday (UF-LSU). Obama tried the Ambien debate prep method and the Braves tried the Ambien playoff prep method, and I have to admit, I was not expecting much of a salvage job today from the Gators.

Hell yes.
   817. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 07:13 PM (#4257099)
Already scored. Huge run by Buie. Gotta make them respect the run tonight.
   818. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 07:20 PM (#4257111)
If there is a way to evaluate futility on third and longs, this WVU defense will have a shot at the all time record for worst at it.
   819. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:04 PM (#4257160)
Fail on the ND uniforms.
   820. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:04 PM (#4257161)
Andrew Buie is having the half of his life. 21-7, the cushion is nice, but I'm still holding my breath every time Texas snaps the ball.
   821. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:10 PM (#4257167)
YOU CANNOT OVERTURN THAT. YOU BLEW THE ####### WHISTLE BEFORE THAT BALL WAS RECOVERED
   822. Slivers of Maranville descends into chaos (SdeB) Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:11 PM (#4257170)
WV showing why so many analysts think teams should go for it on 4th down more.
   823. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:11 PM (#4257171)
Also, that was clearly a ####### helmet to helmet tackle. You could ####### here it.
   824. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:13 PM (#4257177)
Texas needs to be willing to ####### throw the ball on a down other than 3rd and ####### long. WVU's corners are ####### garbage.

I thought it was, but the replay clearly showed it wasn't.

The flea flicker was a fool call. Playing em straight has worked fine, no need to get clever.

Regardless, it was ######## because you're not allowed to just disregard the rules. The play was blown dead well before the ball was recovered.

Jonathan Gray is such a ####### beast.
   828. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:17 PM (#4257184)
Gray is so much better than Bergeron. It'd be nice if Texas realized that.

I dunno. WVU has moved the ball, but it's required a lot of 4th downs and Geno Smith has been dangerously close to getting tackled much of the game. I mean, this is going to be a high scoring game. But it certainly isn't going to be anything like 70-63.
   830. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:19 PM (#4257188)

Not arguing that, but they do it all the time. It cost ND a game against Pitt not so long ago.

Well, the game is turned around again. WVU needs to answer, and try to avoid special teams plays at all times. Maybe Buie can remember what side the handoff is on this drive.
   831. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:21 PM (#4257192)

No, but I don't know about going for a HR there. I dunno, after the Buie play, I think they should have just worked to get to third and short. The real ####### is the tailback blowing the handoff on first down when WVU had all the momentum.
   832. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:21 PM (#4257193)
Now that's a kickoff!!!

BIG 12 FOOTBALL!!
   835. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:25 PM (#4257198)
I think they will spot it at the one. But it doesn't matter, Texas will get 7 anyway. Geno's first turnover of the season and now I'm genuinely worried about how WVU is going to be able to move the ball. ####.
   836. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:27 PM (#4257199)
WVU has a great offense, but they can't just drop back or Texas will be able to attack the quarterback.
   837. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:31 PM (#4257201)
That's a huge flag. A lifesaver.
   838. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4257204)
Wow, Woods' drop was costly. WVU goes from 7 to 3 there and Geno gets hit again. Need the D to step up again.
   839. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:36 PM (#4257206)
That was technically hands to the face on the flag. But that's an annoying penalty since we all know that #### happens on every play.

Yeah, but he knocked the guy's helmet off. Otherwise there is no call
   841. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:40 PM (#4257210)
There is no reason to not just to call deep passes against WVU every play. No pass rush, and the secondary has a busted coverage on seemingly every play.
   842. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4257216)
Woods drop and Buie's trip. Holy ####, those are game changers. How many points are they going to leave on the field tonight?
   843. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 08:51 PM (#4257222)
Nice kick from a shitty kicker.
   844. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:03 PM (#4257231)
Texas had all of the momentum, but I know WVU is going to be able to make adjustments. At least offensively. I don't know what their defense can do really.
   845. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:06 PM (#4257235)

The defense is playing as well as can be hoped. Texas has only scored 17 points on them. If they can keep this up, I will be happy.

Holgorsen will have some adjustments, but Texas has shown the ability to adjust on the fly. Edmond was a huge pain in the ass on the short passing game, they have to figure out a way around him to get the tailback screens back into play.
   846. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:08 PM (#4257237)
If that dropped Woods pass was thrown by any other QB, people would rightly blame it on the QB. Geno Smith is really good, but he threw a bad pass there. Smith is definitely getting pressure that he hasn't seen this year. He's still mostly making good plays. He's going to have to play like the Heisman for WVU to win. I know he's got it in him. It's gonna be a fun second half.
   847. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:13 PM (#4257239)

It wasn't a great throw, but you're still talking about a ball that hit Woods in the hands, and would have hit him in the stomach. It was behind him a bit, but still catchable. Not a good throw, not an excusable drop.

It's gonna be a fun second half.

That's one way to put it. I really don't get much joy out of games like this, I'm mostly extremely anxious.

I'll take only giving up three points there.
   850. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:23 PM (#4257244)
Man, Gator fans hate Urban Meyer. I knew that, but it still manages to surprise me every time I see evidence of it.
   851. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:27 PM (#4257245)
A really nice drive, but also 3 point drives mostly can't happen the rest of the game. WVU has at least 1 or 2 more big plays in them.
   852. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:27 PM (#4257247)
Florida fans realize that Meyer won 2 titles there, right? And played in a couple of other BCS bowls? Winning 2 titles should make you untouchable.
   853. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:29 PM (#4257248)
I don't know if most of the Florida fans I interact with on the internet can spell BCS, Spivey.
   854. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4257251)
Well I consider Mack Brown basically untouchable, and he only has 1 title and 1 title loss.
   855. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:33 PM (#4257256)
That was a really good throw and catch.
   856. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4257257)
Man, the O looked hopping right there. Confidence restored.
   857. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:35 PM (#4257260)
That really long Texas drive has really shortened the game. We're officially in white knuckle time now, where you really feel like you need a TD every drive.
   858. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4257261)
They need to ditch that WVU graphic about being 79-3 since 2000 when scoring 30+. That's old news and won't apply going forward.
   859. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4257262)
I don't understand why you would ever encourage Goodwin and Monroe to return kicks. They're arguably the best return tandem in the country (WVU's tandem is up there too).
   860. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:39 PM (#4257264)
I don't understand why you would ever encourage Goodwin and Monroe to return kicks. They're arguably the best return tandem in the country (WVU's tandem is up there too).

Especially when you guys are doing exactly what WVU should be doing and squibbing it every kick.
   861. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:42 PM (#4257266)
Wow, SCe is killing Georgia. Me picking them to win the SEC looks slightly less stupid now.
   862. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:46 PM (#4257271)
That's a garbage personal foul.
   863. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4257273)
That's a garbage personal foul.

Agreed and it couldn't have come at a worse time. Dude had no idea Shipley was out of bounds because the refs took forever to call it.
   864. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:49 PM (#4257276)
Yes, that personal foul wouldn't have been called 5 years ago. I realize what they're trying to do, but I do think they've gone too far. Guys are ####### sprinting around, reacting to other world class athletes sprinting around. They can't let off in a split second like everyone wants.
   865. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:50 PM (#4257277)
That was a HUGE tackle.
   866. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4257281)
This has been a very well played game.
   867. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:53 PM (#4257282)
That was a HUGE tackle.

Other than the big Austin TD catch and run and Buie's trip, Texas has been doing a great job of keeping WVU's guys in front of the last tackler. Maybe it's a function of last week's game, but it feels like WVU is always one tackle away from ripping huge plays.
   868. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:53 PM (#4257284)
I'm surprised Georgia has sucked so bad. South Carolina has a really good team. I keep doubting them because I question the health of Connor Shaw, but apparently it's a non-issue. But they made a very strong argument today they're not only the second best team in the country, but they may be the best team in the country.
   869. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4257286)
I'm more impressed by WVU's receivers than Geno Smith tonight, honestly.

Edit: This goes for their running back too.
   870. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 10:00 PM (#4257290)
Man, could these announcers be more in the bag for Texas. Normally it doesn't bother me, but this is getting silly.
   871. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4257292)
Cowboy,
I think they think Texas is the better team. I happen to agree. But I don't think they're being obnoxious. They're slobbering on WVU's offense pretty hard.

That was terrible ####### defense from Phillips. And awful defense on 4th and 1. Seriously, how do you not ####### get set. It's 4th and 1. Have your head in the game.
   872. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 10:02 PM (#4257293)

Can't argue with that. Geno earns his hype in the red zone though. Man, what a read and throw there.

Edit: This goes for their running back too.

This is a break out game for Buie. The coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for him turning into a back capable of playing like this.
   873. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 06, 2012 at 10:05 PM (#4257295)
I think they think Texas is the better team. I happen to agree. But I don't think they're being obnoxious. They're slobbering on WVU's offense pretty hard.

I don't. Texas is at home and going punch for punch. I agree Texas looks more physically impressive, but WVU has left points on the field and has kept pace tonight and currently has the lead. The better team is the one who wins tonight.

My perception of their bias may be a reflection of my own bias and anxiety though, so I'll back off that complaint.

That was terrible ####### defense from Phillips. And awful defense on 4th and 1. Seriously, how do you not ####### get set. It's 4th and 1. Have your head in the game.

That was sloppy. That's the problem with playing the hurry up though. I bet Geno called that play on the third down play.
   874. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: October 06, 2012 at 10:07 PM (#4257297)
btw: this is the closest I've seen to a game thread on BTF for college football (WV at UT). Great game. Meanwhile, Nebraska and tOSU playing an unconventional 1st half. After virtually zero first downs in the 1st quarter, total pinball in the 2nd.

A&M totally killing selves at Ole Miss.

I've had sound down on UT game, is Gus Johnson near death?
   875. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4257301)
I don't think home field advantage matters much in a game like this. But it's easy to say that when you're at home, I suppose.

I don't think Texas has outplayed WVU, FWIW. I just think they're better, but it's very much an open question. I agree that the better team is probably the one that wins.
   876. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: October 06, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4257302)
ND D is legit, make no mistake.

This beatdown of UGA cannot be understated, it is complete.
   877. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 10:10 PM (#4257304)
I put that on Ash. He's not as good as his stats (few are), and I think regression caught up with him there. I think he should have been able to avoid the sack and the other two passes/decisions were poor.
   878. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: October 06, 2012 at 10:10 PM (#4257305)
A&M hanging around, the QB has killed them multiple times, then scrambles for a 40 yd TD, down 3 mid 4th.
   879. Spivey Posted: October 06, 2012 at 10:11 PM (#4257306)
Gus Johnson is doing Texas games every week, so I think he's fairly used to this. But Texas is in a really, really tough spot now. They absolutely cannot give up a touchdown.

I'm kind off stunned at how little is has seemed to matter actually. Being away was such a handicap for the Bill Stewart squads, to see this team work so well in such a loud environment is stunning.

That was such a huge ####### stop. Holy ####. Let's go Geno. Get that ####### trophy here.

Well Texas needs a stop here. I think WVU has to be willing to toss the ball. And Texas has to force them too. It's frustrating, because they've shown they can do it. But they've run it on Texas, and you cannot let a ####### finesse team run the clock out on you on the ground.

Stedman Bailey was a three star recruit. IIRC, Buie was a two star guy. I am in love with both of them right now.

Nice drive by Nebraska to open the half. Burkhead may be hurt again though.

This game still isn't over, because of the first down clock stop rules. But we're basically at the end of the line of first downs Texas can give up. Their defense has made some big plays but have not been nearly consistent enough.
