OT: March Madness Thread—

For some reason the OT: College Basketball Thread has been closed, just in time for March Madness.  So let’s use this thread for all of our NCAA Tournament discussion (and NIT, CBI, et al).

The title link goes to Ken Pomeroy’s 2013 NCAA tournament log5 predictions for each round of the tournament.

Flip, the sequal.

Tubby Smith to Texas Tech? Shouldn't he hold out for a better job, like if Wichita State opens up?

Minnesota is shooting for Pitino!

Richard Pitino, head coach for Florida International, and Rick's son.

Sigh. It might work out, but I think he was like sixth or seventh on their list. More upside than Tubby (and downside), but nothing to get excited about either unless he gets one of the three big instate kids to commit.

Wichita State putting up a good fight.

Louisville not putting up a big fight here.

Rick Pitino is history's greatest monster. Or greatest assface.

Ugh, that tie-up call probably iced the game

Terrible way to end the game.
   610. Lassus Posted: April 06, 2013 at 08:41 PM (#4406352)
The only thing good about this will be the pain on Pitino's face when he loses in the final.

Clark Kellogg is a lot taller than Steve Kerr.
   612. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 10:04 PM (#4406402)
in complete seriousness I do not recognize this Michigan team. at all

good for them
   613. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 10:06 PM (#4406405)
if that was a designed 3 pointer that's a crazy play design

but it worked

this tournament has been pretty damn dull, and has had no shortage of lousy games (every game last weekend). Wichita St v Luvl was an exception.

Just had a few too many cold stretches from 3. Also they play much better away from big ten rules.
   616. greenback calls it soccer Posted: April 06, 2013 at 10:40 PM (#4406449)
I thought Chris Webber was black and twenty years older.

And the bad Michigan has returned, as Syracuse has started playing Big Ten ball.
   617. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 10:56 PM (#4406456)
Michigan needs to be forceful. they are pausing before every pass and even a moment's hesitation against Syracuse is enough for them to react and clog what needs to be clogged
   618. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 10:57 PM (#4406457)
that was a good pass by 4 and 52 goofed it up
   619. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 10:58 PM (#4406458)
got luck on the rebound but the standing around on offense is playing to Syracuse

move
   620. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 10:59 PM (#4406460)
good for Syracuse. Michigan should be punished for being so passive
   621. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:01 PM (#4406463)
ok, the ref standing 3 feet away doesn't call the foul?

good grief
   622. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:06 PM (#4406465)
number 4 for Michigan keeps making good passes and the receiver keeps dropping the ball. he has to be going nuts
   623. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:09 PM (#4406466)
Syracuse not getting any second chances. that is one thing Michigan is doing well
   624. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:10 PM (#4406467)
that big white kid is doing a fine bob lanier impersonation with the soft passes and lefty 12 footer
   625. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:11 PM (#4406468)
the incessant time outs in the second half are infuriating

c'mon, play the game
   626. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:18 PM (#4406472)
apparently nobody on Michigan can catch a pass
   627. greenback calls it soccer Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:19 PM (#4406473)
Michigan is falling apart here. This is where Burke is supposed to take charge, and he's disappeared.
   628. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:22 PM (#4406475)
finally a foul call. and the Syracuse kid flopping on the ground in reaction was worthy of a technical.
   629. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:22 PM (#4406476)
the refs refusal to call a foul until someone gets punched in the face is bizarre
   630. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:25 PM (#4406477)
is that kid from Michigan Ollie from hoosiers??
   631. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:27 PM (#4406478)
gotta like jb quietly coaching his kid. it's 60 seconds left in a huge game and he's instructing him on what he should have done

the Syracuse head coach is all coach
   632. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:31 PM (#4406484)
Syracuse is going to snatch this game away
   633. greenback calls it soccer Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:32 PM (#4406485)
Terrible call.
   634. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:32 PM (#4406486)
the Syracuse kid telegraphed that drive a mile away

   635. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:35 PM (#4406487)
what is the time locally where these kids are playing? unless it's out west this seems pretty late for a game
   636. greenback calls it soccer Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:37 PM (#4406488)
WTF was that? Sheesh, what an awful game.

Hail to the Victors though.
   637. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: April 06, 2013 at 11:38 PM (#4406489)
i doubt that was the play jb had drawn up.

boy Syracuse almost did it.

wow
   638. I am going to be Frank Posted: April 07, 2013 at 12:51 AM (#4406510)
Wow if Michigan could make some damn free throws I wouldn't be requiring extra amounts of alcohol. Michigan had control of the game until Syracuse started pressing and Michigan choked at the line. I guess I should be happy that Burke, Hardaway and Stauskas played terribly and they still advanced.
   639. Metternich Posted: April 07, 2013 at 01:10 AM (#4406514)
Or be happy that college refs once again decided to reward a defender who slid under an already airborne offensive player. I'm hardly a dispassionate observer in this instance, but that garbage has ruined college bball and is particularly galling when it all but decided a Final Four game.

"All but decided"? Strong words, amigo. Don't go Joaquin Andujar on us.

lol, michigan was up 3, the same amount Louisville was up when the awfully quick tie up was called. Michigan won fair and square, as Chuck said, it probably was a bad call, and it probably didn't matter. The no call on the Hardaway drive was just as egregious.

Should be a great final. The two most talented teams are left.
