OT: NFL/NHL thread

i estimate that absolutely noone gives a damn about the NHL, so by folding that thread into this one, we won’t distract from what this thread is really about: boner pills, blood doping (is it low t?), and…jesus christ did mike vick just throw another ####### interception?

There should be two sets of penalties in a roughing the QB situation. That would be the lesser of the two.
2402. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:25 PM (#4351143)
Gifted right back! MAN, that one is going to hurt.
   2403. JJ1986 Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:25 PM (#4351144)
Did Moore recover it?
   2404. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:25 PM (#4351145)
feel batter sam?

and don't call the niners cheaters. they didn't make the call
   2405. zenbitz Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:25 PM (#4351146)
Lady luck giveth, and lady luck taketh away.
   2406. Tom Nawrocki Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:25 PM (#4351147)
Wow, he was about a foot from scoring when he lost that ball.
   2407. Mike A Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:25 PM (#4351148)
Wow, what a great and lucky play. Some redemption from that horrid roughing call.
2408. Srul Itza At Home Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:26 PM (#4351149)
Great strip. Great defensive play.
2409. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:26 PM (#4351150)
Damn. Hell of a play by Robinson there.
2410. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:26 PM (#4351151)
I take back what I said about this being on pace to be a shootout. Yeesh. Both teams giving up costly turnovers. Right on the goal line!
   2411. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:27 PM (#4351152)
nice play by the linebacker batting down the pass
   2412. zenbitz Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:27 PM (#4351153)
It is times like this that I tell myself, fumbles on the goal line are only worth like 1.5 expected points.
   2413. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:29 PM (#4351154)
nice stop
2414. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:29 PM (#4351155)
I didn't say anything about the 49ers. I said it was a terrible call, which it was. It was horrific.
   2415. booond Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:29 PM (#4351156)
Big stop by Rogers.
   2416. Tom Nawrocki Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:29 PM (#4351157)
Huge tackle there to keep Gonzalez from getting the first down.
   2417. booond Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:29 PM (#4351158)
Big stop by Rogers.
2418. Srul Itza At Home Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:29 PM (#4351159)
I sense a turnover coming on this punt.

EDIT. So I was wrong. So sue me.
2419. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:31 PM (#4351160)
BTF lawyers, get on it.
   2420. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:33 PM (#4351161)
sam

pre-empting your fandom overwhelming your common sense
   2421. Tom Nawrocki Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:34 PM (#4351162)
Whew. I'm sure Harbaugh didn't want have to decide whether or not to use Davidakers from that spot.
2422. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:35 PM (#4351163)
Oh #### you, Frank Gore. Classless ########.
   2423. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:35 PM (#4351164)
goodness, the kid qb has barely run but that corner was wide open out of concern for his running
2424. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:35 PM (#4351165)
I am very glad I'm not a Falcon's fan.
   2425. booond Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:36 PM (#4351166)
Same play as last Gore score.
2426. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:36 PM (#4351167)
That'd be something else if Atlanta survived that meltdown last week just to melt down this week.
2427. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:37 PM (#4351168)
Harvey, the officiating has been fair this game. They just made a terrible ####### call on that bullshit PF.
2428. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:39 PM (#4351170)
Kaepernick has looked very poised in the pocket. 49ers defense is not convincing today and a LOT of time left for the Falcons.
2429. Depressoteric feels Royally blue these days Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:39 PM (#4351171)
That'd be something else if Atlanta survived that meltdown last week just to melt down this week.
On the one hand, I feel bad for Atlanta fans.

On the other hand, Sam Hutcheson.

On the one hand, Matt Ryan is an unfairly underappreciated QB with an undeserved "choker" reputation (HELLO, FALCONS DEFENSE), and Tony Gonzalez is a soon-to-be HoF'er who's near-impossible to hate.

On the other hand...Sam Hutcheson.

Nah, Sam's a good egg. Seriously though, I want to see a brother-vs.-brother Superbowl coaching matchup, so I have to root for the 49'ers and the Ravens today.
   2430. Mike A Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:39 PM (#4351172)
It's weird watching an NFL where kickoff returns and defense don't exist.
   2431. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:40 PM (#4351173)
sam

you can say it's a terrible call but it's pretty commonplace

i say this with confidence because it's been called against green bay several times the last 2 seasons
   2432. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:42 PM (#4351175)
tough completion
2433. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:43 PM (#4351176)
Where's the PF for slapping Ryan's head by Willis?
2434. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:44 PM (#4351177)
You can't be serious about that.
2435. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:44 PM (#4351178)
Matty Ice is doing a great job in the pocket right now.
   2436. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:45 PM (#4351179)
not a catch
2437. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:45 PM (#4351180)
Don't think he caught that cleanly.
   2438. Tom Nawrocki Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:46 PM (#4351181)
Sam can't be serious about anything.
2439. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:46 PM (#4351182)
David, if it was PF against 98 Red, it's PF against Willis.
   2440. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:46 PM (#4351183)
sam

when the runner is running, and ryan didn't slide, there is not blow to the head

you knwo that

you are just being a jerk
   2441. Mike A Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:46 PM (#4351184)
Not sure they have enough to overturn this one. It's close. Ground moves the ball but his hand is under it.
   2442. JJ1986 Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:47 PM (#4351185)
I assume it was a catch just because the announcers are so sure that it wasn't.
   2443. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:47 PM (#4351186)
and if you are being serious look it up.

it's covered in the rulebook
2444. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:47 PM (#4351187)
They're overturn that.
   2445. JJ1986 Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:47 PM (#4351188)
Harbaugh is pissed.
2446. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:48 PM (#4351189)
Wow. I thought that would go SF.
2447. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:48 PM (#4351190)
I thought Harbaugh was going to have an aneurysm after that call. It's not a catch, but whatever.
   2448. nick swisher hygiene Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:48 PM (#4351191)
one knee down before the bounce off the ground? (not that I know if that means anything but it seems to have been the case)
2449. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:48 PM (#4351192)
Meh, I didn't think that was a catch but close enough, I guess.
   2450. Mike A Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:48 PM (#4351193)
Harbaugh is such a toolbag. No way I can root for that guy.
   2451. JJ1986 Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:48 PM (#4351194)
I thought most of the movement came from it hitting the receiver.
   2452. zenbitz Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:48 PM (#4351195)
The roughing the passer is not a terrible CALL - it's called 100% of the time. It's a ticky-tack rule.

   2453. JJ1986 Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:49 PM (#4351196)
one knee down before the bounce off the ground? (not that I know if that means anything but it seems to have been the case)

Doesn't matter unless he's touched.
   2454. smileyy Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:49 PM (#4351197)
He kept a hand under it the whole time.
   2455. zenbitz Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:49 PM (#4351198)
Harbaugh is a terrible challenger. Although that one might have been worth it. He challenges or not on pure emotion and how much he needs the call. It's probably his worst aspect as a head coach.
   2456. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:49 PM (#4351199)
this is now a do or die drive
   2457. AuntBea Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:49 PM (#4351200)
I thought it was a catch. Sadly.
   2458. Tom Nawrocki Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:50 PM (#4351201)
About time for the 49ers to call some timeouts, isn't it?
   2459. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:51 PM (#4351202)
If you're the 49ers, shouldn't you be using your timeouts here in case Atlanta gets the TD?
   2460. zenbitz Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:51 PM (#4351203)
@2449 - it's whatever called on the field. The only reason it's not an IDIOTIC challenge was that if the ref random number generator goes the defenses way it's 4th and 2 on the 40.
   2461. zenbitz Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:53 PM (#4351204)
I think this is a great game no matter how it goes down in the last couple minutes. Probably Falcon fans are steamed that they blew a 17 point lead.

What about the uncommitted?
   2462. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:53 PM (#4351205)
san fran should be taking a time out here
   2463. Tom Nawrocki Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:54 PM (#4351206)
No 49ers TO here? That's insane.
   2464. JJ1986 Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:54 PM (#4351207)
One play for the game.
2465. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:54 PM (#4351208)
Here's the game, right here.
2466. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:54 PM (#4351209)
Here we go. Game on the line...

If the Falcons win their O-Line deserves the bulk of the credit, I think.
   2467. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:55 PM (#4351210)
wow.................
2468. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:55 PM (#4351211)
At least the Falcons covered the spread? Wasn't it 4 1/2?
2469. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:55 PM (#4351212)
Harbaugh Two is in the Superbowl!
   2470. Mike A Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:55 PM (#4351213)
Wow. No pass interference. Figures.
   2471. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:55 PM (#4351214)
cue sam screaming for holding

which would be lame
2472. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:55 PM (#4351215)
Holding, pass interference.
   2473. zenbitz Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:55 PM (#4351216)
DPI? Within 5 yards (or close enough) can't call holding. I think it's DPI about 40% of the time.

EDIT: I mean to say, on the border line calls (which happen like every other possession) a play like that is CALLED DPI 40% of the time.
   2474. JJ1986 Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:55 PM (#4351217)
Wasn't it 4 1/2

Opened at 3.5. Don't know where it ended up. I got it at 4.
   2475. AuntBea Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:56 PM (#4351218)
All the contact was within 5 yds. Was it PI? An extremely rough call against the 49ers if they were to have made it. Best call was a no call I think.
   2476. Mike A Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:57 PM (#4351219)
It was interference. The refs missed the call. Which always happens to ATL teams in the playoffs.
2477. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:57 PM (#4351220)
Ooh, the Yippee ki-yay post game is coming up! Thanks for destroying my affection for the first Die Hard, Fox.

give me a break. seriously.

i am so sick of people begging for flags
   2479. zenbitz Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:57 PM (#4351222)
Had to save the time out for 2nd and 7 up 4 with 1:04 left?
   2480. AuntBea Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:58 PM (#4351223)
Pretty sure it ended at 4.5 or 4. But that OR becomes very important.
   2481. zenbitz Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:58 PM (#4351224)
WHAT ARE THEY DOING
2482. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:58 PM (#4351225)
Some inexperience here from Kaepernick.
   2483. JJ1986 Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:58 PM (#4351227)
Harvey was 100% right about the timeout.
2484. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 06:59 PM (#4351228)
This is where it's nice to have the best punter in the league.
   2485. JJ1986 Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:00 PM (#4351229)
14 seconds when the punt goes off. 7-8 for the last play.
2486. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:01 PM (#4351230)
Great coverage! Remember Ravens-Colts Niners!
   2487. AuntBea Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:02 PM (#4351231)
For a hail mary, put in the backup!
2488. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:02 PM (#4351232)
What. The. Hell.
2489. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:02 PM (#4351233)
What the hell was that?
2490. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:02 PM (#4351234)
That was a flaccid excuse of a Hail Mary.
   2491. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:02 PM (#4351235)
hooray

congrats to the 49ers

awesome

they earned it
   2492. AuntBea Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:02 PM (#4351236)
WTF was that? Backup QB if your QB cannot throw the Hail Mary. Seriously WTF
   2493. JJ1986 Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:03 PM (#4351237)
Isn't their backup Chris Redman? He can't even throw that far.
2494. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:03 PM (#4351238)
So, I think Kaepernick proved he's not just a fast runner today. Impressed by how composed he was today.
2495. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:04 PM (#4351239)
Was Ryan hurt? He came off holding his shoulder a bit after the failed 4th down play.
   2496. AuntBea Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:04 PM (#4351240)
Redman cannot throw further than 30 yards? That;s as far as M Ice threw. A hail mary is not (usually) a difficult play for the QB.
   2497. Mike A Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:04 PM (#4351241)
Tough luck for the Falcons. Much like the Braves and the IF fly 'catch,' the no call on the interference? will be talked about for a while.
2498. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:05 PM (#4351242)
Ryan had a bum non-throwing shoulder from a late hit that wasn't called on the previous drive.

I hope your city burns and falls into the sea.
   2499. AuntBea Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:05 PM (#4351243)
Yes Ryan appeared to be injured, which might explain his weak ass "hail mary".
   2500. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: January 20, 2013 at 07:05 PM (#4351244)
this is so tremendous

i am so happy for my buddy who is a niner fan
