OT: NFL/NHL thread

i estimate that absolutely noone gives a damn about the NHL, so by folding that thread into this one, we won’t distract from what this thread is really about: boner pills, blood doping (is it low t?), and…jesus christ did mike vick just throw another ####### interception?

Anyone else surprised to find out that was the longest TD run by a QB in Super Bowl history?

not really. Who else was capable of running 15 yards w/o facing contact? I guess Young or McNair.

A little. Frank Tarkenton and young John Elway played in three each. Wouldn't have been surprised if they had a long one.

That was a REALLY generous spot.
3505. Rafael Bellylard: Built like a Panda. Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:13 PM (#4361739)
In 40+ games, I'd have guessed some QB would have managed a 16 yd TD run.
   3506. Gamingboy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:13 PM (#4361740)
Challenge. This is a dangerous move...
   3507. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:14 PM (#4361741)
anybody with any sense of the success rate of challenging a spot?
   3508. DA Baracus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:14 PM (#4361742)
Challenging the spot of the ball is almost always a waste.
   3509. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:15 PM (#4361744)
Even if he was short, the risk vs. reward seems off with this challenge.
   3510. Lassus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:15 PM (#4361745)
I think that's a good challenge.

Ans I thought that Montana stain commercial was good.
3511. Los Angeles El Hombre de Anaheim Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:17 PM (#4361746)
I didn't even know you could challenge a spot.
   3512. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:17 PM (#4361747)
Even if he was short, the risk vs. reward seems off with this challenge.

OK, never mind, on replay he was pretty obviously short, so there was no real harm in using that challenge.
   3513. DA Baracus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:17 PM (#4361748)
That's what you get for challenging to make it 3rd and inches.
   3514. Gamingboy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:17 PM (#4361749)
Of course, Flacco then gets Boldin (nice catch by Boldin).
3515. Los Angeles El Hombre de Anaheim Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:18 PM (#4361750)
Boldin is just so amazing.
3516. The kids disappeared, now Der-K has too much candy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:18 PM (#4361751)
That boldin guy is pretty good
   3517. Gamingboy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:19 PM (#4361752)
Most underrated WR of his generation.
   3518. NTNgod Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:20 PM (#4361753)
I suppose that's one way for the 49ers to try and muster some, any, pass rush tonight.
   3519. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:21 PM (#4361755)
The SF penalties have been particularly damaging today, not that any are desirable. until the drop I guess.
   3520. JJ1986 Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:21 PM (#4361756)
I don't like kicking there.
   3521. stanmvp48 Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:22 PM (#4361757)
They should have run twice. Just as they should have on the goal line on the last drive
   3522. Gamingboy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:22 PM (#4361758)
I'm calling it now, Kapenernick gets hurt this drive, forcing unseen and unheralded QB Alex Smith to take the field to try and save the day.

I mean, that's the one plot twist that hasn't happened yet, right?
   3523. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:23 PM (#4361759)
Yeah Boldin was a freak show talent at FSU, and even then didn't seem to get that much pub. Of note, he did make Florida HS all century team, which you have to think is quite a team.

phil simms?
Most underrated WR of his generation.
i'd go with steve smith. although, maybe the fact that i don't think boldin is really all that good is evidence of his actually being underrated.
3525. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:25 PM (#4361761)
I like how the superbowl thread gpt buried in favor pf this one
   3526. JJ1986 Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:25 PM (#4361762)
I think Smith, at his peak, was considered one of the top receivers in the game, but his career might end up more underrated, especially after this season (for Boldin).
   3527. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:26 PM (#4361763)
catch it dickless.
   3528. Lassus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:27 PM (#4361764)
Gotta lay out for that, Davis.
3529. Los Angeles El Hombre de Anaheim Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:27 PM (#4361765)
Needed to make that catch.
   3530. Lassus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:27 PM (#4361766)
I want the game-wining TD reception to go to Moss.
   3531. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:27 PM (#4361767)
I'll admit, I'm a huge Crabtree honk.
   3532. JJ1986 Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:28 PM (#4361768)
Ravens really blew it by leaving the margin at 5.
   3533. Moe Greene Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:29 PM (#4361769)
This would be a good time to have a Timeouts Coach.
   3534. DA Baracus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:29 PM (#4361770)
If you're Baltimore, do you let them score on the next play?
3535. Los Angeles El Hombre de Anaheim Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:29 PM (#4361771)
What? NO!
3536. Rafael Bellylard: Built like a Panda. Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:29 PM (#4361772)

It did take Akers out of the game.
3537. Depressoteric feels Royally blue these days Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:30 PM (#4361773)
Amazingly, the Ravens are about to lose.
   3538. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:30 PM (#4361774)
Suggs has been nameless tonight, you're lying if you don't admit that zone read has him neutralized. (yes, he's playing sound assignment football, but this exhibits the virtues of the play).
   3539. Lassus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:31 PM (#4361776)
Amazingly, the Ravens are about to lose.

I dunno. TD with one minute left, drive to a Ravens FG seems not too crazy.
   3540. JJ1986 Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:32 PM (#4361777)
Has there ever been an overtime SB?
   3541. Gamingboy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:32 PM (#4361778)
Has there ever been an overtime SB?

Nope.

no to
   3543. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:33 PM (#4361780)
I set that up.
   3544. Lassus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:33 PM (#4361781)
Then again, maybe there just won't be a TD.
   3545. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:34 PM (#4361782)
Wow. That is bad. Losing the second timeout pretty much means they need to score the TD here as opposed to maybe getting another chance.
   3546. stanmvp48 Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:34 PM (#4361783)
Wasn't there a Baltimore Dallas OT early?
   3547. Lassus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:34 PM (#4361784)
Wow.

Go for it?

Got to, right?
   3548. JJ1986 Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:34 PM (#4361785)
Kaepernick keeper on 4th?
   3549. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:34 PM (#4361786)
no, just nine thousand turnovers.
   3550. Darren Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:34 PM (#4361787)
Admittedly rooting for SF, but that looks like interference and that looks like a completion.
   3551. Lassus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:35 PM (#4361788)
That was downright terrible.
3552. Los Angeles El Hombre de Anaheim Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:35 PM (#4361789)
PI, but that wasn't a catchable ball.
   3553. NTNgod Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:35 PM (#4361790)
Did they get the play off in time?
   3554. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:35 PM (#4361791)
Well, that was kind of anticlimactic for the fourth down play.
3555. Depressoteric feels Royally blue these days Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:35 PM (#4361792)
Wow. The Niners got...so close. And couldn't make it.
   3556. Darren Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:35 PM (#4361793)
What would it take to get a holding/interference call?
   3557. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:36 PM (#4361794)
IF they get the 3-and-out, SF should get a punt return and maybe a Hail Mary. Those spent timeouts are looming large.
   3558. Darren Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:36 PM (#4361795)
Contact was not inside 5 yards.
   3559. Moe Greene Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:36 PM (#4361796)
I don't see how that's a "good no call."
   3560. DA Baracus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:36 PM (#4361797)
Wasn't there a Baltimore Dallas OT early?

That game didn't go to OT.
   3561. Lassus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:37 PM (#4361798)
Simms, you sound like an idiot. You should just shut up.
   3562. JJ1986 Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:37 PM (#4361799)
They're never going to call that.
   3563. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:37 PM (#4361800)
considering the NFL calls that flag all season long, all the time, I am quite surprised not to see the illegal contact flag there.
   3564. Darren Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:37 PM (#4361801)
The refs simply don't want that sort of call at the end, so you can pretty much get away with anything.
   3565. Moe Greene Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:38 PM (#4361802)

Except in that Miami - Ohio State championship game.
   3566. Mike A Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:38 PM (#4361803)
Niners got away with a hold two weeks ago against the Falcons, so I guess it evened out.
   3567. Lassus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:39 PM (#4361804)
Oh lord, Simms, stop.
   3568. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:39 PM (#4361805)
Was about as bad as the tOSU v Miami Fiesta bowl which did yield a flag in a similar game type situation.
   3569. DA Baracus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:40 PM (#4361806)
Simms, you sound like an idiot. You should just shut up.

Nice use of Carmina Burana.
   3573. Random Transaction Generator Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:41 PM (#4361810)
I'd have the punter run around in the end zone, and then step out.
That should leave only a second or two for them after the free kick.
   3574. Moe Greene Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:41 PM (#4361811)

seriously, 7 seconds to find Koch.
   3577. Darren Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:41 PM (#4361814)
He killed way more time than he should have been able to
   3578. Gamingboy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:42 PM (#4361816)
Canny move. Now the Niners need to bring the punt back immediately OR fair catch it then have a bomb.
   3579. Lassus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:42 PM (#4361817)
Um, wasn't that a hold there?
   3580. Darren Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:42 PM (#4361818)
Oh, and look, you're allowed to hold the defenders on that play. That's nice.
   3581. Random Transaction Generator Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:42 PM (#4361819)
Yeah, like that.
   3582. Darren Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:43 PM (#4361820)
Why are the refs refusing to call anything? Of course, they wouldn't even be able to accept the holding call.
3583. Los Angeles El Hombre de Anaheim Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:43 PM (#4361821)
Yes. Forget it. It's Chinatown.
   3584. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:43 PM (#4361822)
moe

but it will be. it's pretty much the same people who always complain about officiating.
   3585. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:43 PM (#4361823)
our fair catch free kick discussion from weeks ago, resurfaces here?
   3586. Darren Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:43 PM (#4361824)
If I were SF, I'd do a bunch of forward laterals on this play and see if I could get the non calls too.
   3587. stanmvp48 Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:43 PM (#4361825)
Of course the penalty for holding is a safety anyway
   3588. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:44 PM (#4361826)
An 'unrushed attempt' at a field goal after a fair catch? Do you think the kicker is just going to fall down drooling and tap the ball? Because that's the only way you're close enough for a field goal.
   3589. Darren Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:44 PM (#4361827)
Where are you going to fair catch it? On the 40 at best?
   3590. booond Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:44 PM (#4361828)
Um, wasn't that a hold there?

Bear hug.
   3591. Random Transaction Generator Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:44 PM (#4361829)
I'd love to see the 49'ers receiver drop kick this with no time left.
   3592. DA Baracus Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:45 PM (#4361830)
Joe Flacco is now elite!
   3593. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:45 PM (#4361831)
Damn. I wasn't particularly rooting for the 49ers, but I was certainly rooting against the Ravens.
   3594. Darren Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:45 PM (#4361832)
Well, that sucked. Crappy ending. They got away with murder.

   3597. Gamingboy Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:47 PM (#4361836)
Welp. That was an unusual game. Huh?
3598. Los Angeles El Hombre de Anaheim Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:47 PM (#4361837)
The third quarter and the beginning of the 4th was exciting, but... the first half was a snoozer, the halftime show was terrible, there was a 30-minute delay for power.... Eh. Not bad, but nobody's going to be writing songs about this game.
   3599. Darren Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:47 PM (#4361838)
Flacco: "Holy ####. ####### Awesome."
   3600. Random Transaction Generator Posted: February 03, 2013 at 11:47 PM (#4361839)
Well, now Ray Lewis can celebrate by going out and painting the town red (with blood).
