OT: November College Football Thread.

Alabama Is still Ranked #1.  Will they hold steady to repeat? Make it to the title game?  Or does another team claim the Crystal ball in Miami in January.

Keep in mind Harris Poll voters, this Kansas team almost beat Northern Illinois.

Also almost beat Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas Tech.

Also almost beat Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas Tech.

None of them are in danger of getting a BCS bowl bid based on a weak schedule and no one is claiming they deserve one either.

Out of curiosity, do you think Northern Illinois would beat any of those teams on a neutral field?
   1503. Cowboy Popup Posted: December 01, 2012 at 05:23 PM (#4314150)
Somewhat coincidentally, CBS Sports is saying the NC St. is about to hire away Northern Illinois' coach.

They'd have a good shot against Texas Tech.

Imagine how bad Kansas would be without it's decided schematic advantage.

They'd have a good shot against Texas Tech.

I agree with that.

Imagine how bad Kansas would be without it's decided schematic advantage.

Holgersen had what I thought was a great quote this week about Kansas:

"They're going to coach them up. We're going to be at a major schematic disadvantage going against their coaches,'' the West Virginia coach said.

That would be an awful pull for WV, hopefully the Holiday Bowl picks em up before they fall to the Pinstripe. Playing one of the Pac-12 also rans would be a far more meaningful game than a nothing to win game against a down rival who broke up the Big East.

Well as a WVU fan, some 800 miles from NYC, I would probably travel to watch them play Pitt in NYS. I would not travel to watch them play Syracuse.

Depending on total cost for travel, ticket, etc; the Holiday bowl vs UCLA/USC/Arizona/etc would be something I'd be interested in going to.

If I had any money, whatsoever, I would consider going to the Pinstripe either way just for the novelty of seeing WV in person. But as someone who will be watching the game at home no matter where it is, I am rooting hard for a Holiday Bowl and a good opponent.

Good lord, the level of play in this UGA/Bama game is 100 times better than in UM/OSU last week. And I say that as a UM fan. If UM gets stuck playing UGA in a bowl, they're going to lose by three touchdowns.

Apparently vicious blows to the head is okay if your from Alabama. How the #### did the ref miss that call?!

QB is now a defender on interception return, no one cares.
1512. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: December 01, 2012 at 06:49 PM (#4314176)
Bullshit. That was clearly a personal foul on 90.

I'm watching with a bunch of folks, and we're all talking about racial and socioeconomic and political undertones to that Dr. Pepper contest. That's why meritocracy is good.

#1511 - I get that you're a homer, but you can't possibly believe that wasn't a penalty, right? Bullshit "blocks" away from the play flow get called all the time. It was a dirty play.
   1517. Every Inge Counts Posted: December 01, 2012 at 07:02 PM (#4314185)
It was a penalty. Much like the refs missed a huge block in the back on a Georgia punt return, it happens. I have seen Facebook calling Dial a thug which is far off-base. On the interception return defensive players look for the QB to hit.

Whomever worked with him and came up with the "treat it like a free throw contest" - or him, if it was his idea, obviously... Just brilliant. I expect there to be new rules on the way the throws can be made next year.
1519. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: December 01, 2012 at 07:11 PM (#4314188)
Dial found the opposing QB and tried to take him out of the game. Murray wasn't a defender on that play. He was 20 yards from the action and in no way attempting to get into it. Dial should be suspended from the NC should Alabama advance, based on that play. It *was* thug work. It was N. Suh like.
   1520. Every Inge Counts Posted: December 01, 2012 at 07:13 PM (#4314189)
LOL. 20 yards from the play. You can see Dix go down when Murray got hit. Good lord is this the first time people watched football.

Danielson says that pass wasn't going to the end zone, but based on the angle of Murray's shoulder it looks like he was trying to throw an endzone fade and didn't get enough air on the ball.

Probably the best SEC Championship Game ever.

Yes, this was one of the few times where it makes sense to spike the ball. They didn't have a chance of using all four downs, so you might as well get yourself set.

Edit: Coke to Hokie.

1545. Rickey! trades in sheep and threats Posted: December 01, 2012 at 08:59 PM (#4314244)
UGA was throwing into the end zone. The deflection at the line killed the throw, and 31's instinct made him catch it. They wanted three plays into the end zone. Can't really fault the kid who didn't think to bat the ball down on the 3 yard line.

Stanford is a different team with their new QB. He said which teams are the best, not who is most deserving of a MNC bid.

You could just as easily say that if you lose 35-7, you don't belong on that list.

I think the SEC is good because they play at another level. They play at another level because they are so good. And around and around in the circle we go. When they play 9-6 games, they have the best defenses ever. When they play 32-28, they have the best running games ever. No matter what, the SEC is the best ever. Every year.

first, i think it's a silly claim but the reason it has legs is because the wisky head coach is known to be a jerk who likes to play around the edge of the rules.

if i follow the reasoning correctly it's that wisconsin was playing its 3rd string qb, winning wasn't a 'must', so keep the offense stripped down to the very basics and save the good stuff for the championship game

Andy Staples is talking on Twitter about the possibility that Georgia impressed enough voters to stay ahead of Florida in the BCS and take the Sugar Bowl bid. That would be annoying.

And go 7-5 during that time....that should be a fireable offense.

Holy Toledo what a block by #80 on Nebraska. The play was called back as the block was deemed to be on a "defenseless player", but that was still one of the hardest blocks I have seen in years.

That was stomach-turning. Even if that's a disputable flag under the present rules, I'm fine with blindside blocks being penalized out of the game.
