Also almost beat Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas Tech.
None of them are in danger of getting a BCS bowl bid based on a weak schedule and no one is claiming they deserve one either.
Out of curiosity, do you think Northern Illinois would beat any of those teams on a neutral field?
They'd have a good shot against Texas Tech.
I agree with that.
Imagine how bad Kansas would be without it's decided schematic advantage.
Holgersen had what I thought was a great quote this week about Kansas:
Well as a WVU fan, some 800 miles from NYC, I would probably travel to watch them play Pitt in NYS. I would not travel to watch them play Syracuse.
Depending on total cost for travel, ticket, etc; the Holiday bowl vs UCLA/USC/Arizona/etc would be something I'd be interested in going to.
If I had any money, whatsoever, I would consider going to the Pinstripe either way just for the novelty of seeing WV in person. But as someone who will be watching the game at home no matter where it is, I am rooting hard for a Holiday Bowl and a good opponent.
I'm watching with a bunch of folks, and we're all talking about racial and socioeconomic and political undertones to that Dr. Pepper contest. That's why meritocracy is good.
Whomever worked with him and came up with the "treat it like a free throw contest" - or him, if it was his idea, obviously... Just brilliant. I expect there to be new rules on the way the throws can be made next year.
This is a bit of an understatement, and I've got no horse in this race. Thug play.
You indeed have me wondering this.
The winner of this game is going to *destroy* Notre Dame.
Probably the best SEC Championship Game ever.
Yes, this was one of the few times where it makes sense to spike the ball. They didn't have a chance of using all four downs, so you might as well get yourself set.
Edit: Coke to Hokie.
...they only delivered a single ball for the entire game?
Um, Oregon? Stanford?
Also, K-State is not going to lose tonight.
Stanford is a different team with their new QB. He said which teams are the best, not who is most deserving of a MNC bid.
You could just as easily say that if you lose 35-7, you don't belong on that list.
If we're not going to differentiate September Stanford from November Stanford (with a new QB), then maybe. The way Stanford is playing now, they could hang with anyone.
And don't forget Louisiana-Lafayette (or are narrow escapes at home only a mark against you if they occur above the Mason-Dixon line?).
So either Notre Dame or Alabama gets to win the national championship? Ugh.
God have mercy on our souls.
At least in boxing, you can root for "the bloody draw." No such luck here...
Yeah that isn't it.
I really hope Florida gets Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl. That will help resolve a lot of uncertainty about this statement for me.
That sounds more like a play to get Pickens to open up his pocket books. I'm not sure why he would leave a job where he is safe for a long time to go coach at a three and out kind of place.
Eh. Oklahoma has played like #### in bowls recently.
don’t know about that but it is clear that wisconsin has played a ‘very’ different game than the last 3 weeks
don’t know about that but it is clear that wisconsin has played a ‘very’ different game than the last 3 weeks
If that's true and I were in any way connected to the program, I'd be pretty pissed.
the only reason it has legs is because the wisky coach is a well known jerk who likes to push the rules
i think this game has more to do with wisconsin being healthy on the offensive line, getting some turnovers and nebraska for whatever reason not protecting the edge on defense
Nebraska's D, particularly up front, has been wildly inconsistent all season. But, yeah, they're getting embarrassed tonight.
True fact: Barry Alvarez was at my wedding! (married to my wife's first cousin)
nebraska should be embarrased on those end arounds working. wisconsin has been running that play all season and it's gotten clobbered against the good teams
why the indictment on the big 10 as a conference? it's nebraska that is throwing up on itself
I think the SEC is good because they play at another level. They play at another level because they are so good. And around and around in the circle we go. When they play 9-6 games, they have the best defenses ever. When they play 32-28, they have the best running games ever. No matter what, the SEC is the best ever. Every year.
Well, if someone would beat them with any regularity they might not be the best every year. Until that happens, they're the best. Every year. The fact that you don't like it doesn't make it any less true.
I wish there were more BCS conference matchups and all, but I'm not sure how you could make a case that they aren't. We will see how they do in their non-Big Ten bowl teams this year, but for the last six years, this is certainly true.
But what would be the reason? How would that benefit the program?
first, i think it's a silly claim but the reason it has legs is because the wisky head coach is known to be a jerk who likes to play around the edge of the rules.
if i follow the reasoning correctly it's that wisconsin was playing its 3rd string qb, winning wasn't a 'must', so keep the offense stripped down to the very basics and save the good stuff for the championship game
