I'm not really a fan.
Yeah, Spivey was on to something when he said the helmet to helmets were a result of coaching.
It got called because it looked harsh. It wasn't helmet to helmet, and it wasn't really that late.
Can't find a gif yet, so I can't really dispute this other than to say it looked like a top of the helmet to Bridgewater's chin hit to me. And it did knock his helmet off.
Here's the other hit, since I found it while looking for a gif: Elam tackle
Looked to me like he led with his shoulder, but I only got one look at it. If it was helmet to helmet, the ref generally says so, and they just called plain old roughing the passer.
The Elam hit, on further review, should have definitely been called.
There's an extent to which you want to play away from your tendencies, and Florida has some guys on offense they'd like to develop. But your strengths are your strengths and your weaknesses are your weaknesses for a reason.
Yeah, I get showing the pass a bit to spread out the ville D a bit. But after their third drive, I think they proved they can run it extremely effectively regardless. Calling two passes and one rush after the field goal was too cute for a team that can run like that.
Edit: FLORIDA DOES NOT LOOK DISINTERESTED ANNOUNCER. Disinterested teams don't beat the #### out of the other team's offense with ferocious hits and completely shut down their running game.
It's lazy announcing. They're losing because they can't stop anyone on third down, and their offense is bad (the latter is normal, the former is not). But it's standard announcer-speak to chalk such things up to character, or "wanting it more", or what have you.
It's the humidity. I was in Sarasota for a few weeks a couple years ago and by the end of it I was clothes-lining grandmothers in the park just to stay sane.
Edit: Terrific catch, though.
But what Louisville is doing to Florida's defense...that's stunning. This is legitimately one of the best defenses in the country, and Bridgewater's eviscerating it with ease.
I kinda see it. They figure their CBs can give em a second or two and he can't dance around the blitz. Problem is, Bridgewater throws the ball on that route as accurately as anyone in college. And Parker made an amazing catch.
*Tight end Jordan Reed is pretty good.
They've got some good ones committed who'll be coming in for 2013, and they have a real good shot at one more highly regarded HS receiver. Of course, UF's had plenty of highly regarded HS receivers recently.
Try as we might, young men are still more influenced by their peers than anything. Changing coaches doesn't change what gets passed down player/player discussions.
Like the play call there, even if it didn't quite work.
Yeah, they ran a fake field goal against FSU where he threw to his wide open brother. His pass was bad, his brother botched the catch and it was incomplete.
I really, really wanted Burton to run the option with Sturgis. That would have been beautiful.
Ah, okay. I missed the first half of the FSU game while stuck on the Mass Pike.
As badly as UF has played, I'm happy they're only down by as much as they are at the half. And yes, I've said those words many, many times this year.
Louisville's passing game is just shredding Florida. I think Bridgewater needs to hold onto it a couple more times on these zone read options though.
I do think they need to keep running the ball, but I think they can dial it back a bit. It's setting up too many 3rd and medium and 3rd and long, and you can't expect to keep converting those at such an insane rate.
That said, this doesn't look like luck. Bridgewater has made a couple of incredible passes but the receivers are finding open holes almost every play. And no pass rush, save for that one bull rush sack.
I've seen enough to where I want Texas to drive a dumptruck full of money to Charlie Strong's house to coach Texas, and create some advisor role or something for Mack Brown. I would like Mack Brown to eventually be the AD, but I don't think he's going to win a championship again as head coach. Granting that winning a national championship is really f'n difficult.
Do you think Muschamp is ever happy at halftime?
Onside kick! Good work by Louisville to recover, but I like the idea.
Here's the ball on the 20!!!!
Alas, I'm living for small victories here.
I'm not so sure that is the case. I didn't much of him after the UNC game, but his throws against Rutgers, at like 40%, combined with tonight, make me think Bridgewater is absolutely a very special QB right now.
Sweet tackle.
Well, Bridgewater really is having a fantastic game. Pretty much every pass has been right on target. But yeah, the corners look awful.
Penalty Yards 10 78
That's pretty insane right there.
Boo. UF gets a shot to get something back here. Not clutch Cards.
Jesus, Louisville really pissed away a good opp there.
So, you have no thoughts on the Les Miles brain-dump with under two? You think he did that because Dabo put a mind-juju on him?
Perfect.
Never heard that one before.
Yeah, but it's most fun too. Either way, Florida is playing like garbage.
Didn't you know? Florida doesn't care. That's the only way people can hang with SEC teams.
Penalty Yards 10 93
That's pretty ridiculous.
It's like they're just making up penalties to give to Florida now. Being in the white? What happened to the good ol' fashioned sideline warning?
TOKYO DRIFT!!!
Edit: Well... by Louisville standards.
The announcers suggested someone ran into a coach during the play, but then of course, they didn't show it, so who the hell knows. There are a butt load of unusual and bad officiating this bowl season.
What tears? I'm just repeating the SEC mantra whenever they lose a game. See Alabama-Utah, Georgia-West V, or hell, even the first half of Georgia-Nebraska from yesterday.
I guess Alabama probably didn't have a total clunker of a game, but they were soundly outplayed by LSU in a win that was pretty lucky.
It's the problem of a team that only does one thing well. If that one thing isn't working, man, it gets ugly real, real quick.
Although, to be fair, UF does two things well. Defense, and kicking.
