Alabama Is still Ranked #1.  Will they hold steady to repeat? Make it to the title game?  Or does another team claim the Crystal ball in Miami in January.

Did UF's defensive coordinator really say "Great hit on Bridgewater"? That's pretty f'ed up.
   2602. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:21 PM (#4337452)
Bridgewater has been fantastic in the pocket so far tonight. Really something to watch.
   2603. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:21 PM (#4337453)
The thing that annoys me about Driskel is that he doesn't go through his WR progression. When I joked about him staring about a guy for three minutes, well, that's par for the course. He locks onto one guy, and if he doesn't get open, he'll stand there and get sacked.

I'm not really a fan.

Yeah, Spivey was on to something when he said the helmet to helmets were a result of coaching.

It got called because it looked harsh. It wasn't helmet to helmet, and it wasn't really that late.

It took Florida a half to pull itself together against A&M and Johnny Manziel, is what I'm repeatedly telling myself.
   2607. ASmitty Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:29 PM (#4337459)
Yeah, I think Florida can take a lot from FSU's experience last night. Adrenaline wears off and adjustments set in
   2608. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:31 PM (#4337461)
What the heck was Hunter Joyer doing on the kick return there? He looked completely lost, and was looking in the wrong direction.
2609. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:32 PM (#4337462)
Joyer was on the return team? That's odd.
   2610. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:34 PM (#4337464)
Unless it was a different #41. They do have a bunch of duplicate numbers.
2611. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:35 PM (#4337465)
It's a shame to lose Sturgis. It's always cool to have a great kicker/punter combo.

Can't find a gif yet, so I can't really dispute this other than to say it looked like a top of the helmet to Bridgewater's chin hit to me. And it did knock his helmet off.

Here's the other hit, since I found it while looking for a gif: Elam tackle
   2613. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:35 PM (#4337467)
Florida is calling a lot of passing plays, which I feel like is playing into Louisville's strengths and their weaknesses. This game is going great for me and my bowl pick'em so far.

Looked to me like he led with his shoulder, but I only got one look at it. If it was helmet to helmet, the ref generally says so, and they just called plain old roughing the passer.

The Elam hit, on further review, should have definitely been called.
   2615. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:39 PM (#4337470)
Nice rush by McCray. Went straight through his guy.

There's an extent to which you want to play away from your tendencies, and Florida has some guys on offense they'd like to develop. But your strengths are your strengths and your weaknesses are your weaknesses for a reason.
   2617. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:42 PM (#4337475)
Teddy Bridgewater poops long passes for first downs.

Yeah, I get showing the pass a bit to spread out the ville D a bit. But after their third drive, I think they proved they can run it extremely effectively regardless. Calling two passes and one rush after the field goal was too cute for a team that can run like that.

Edit: FLORIDA DOES NOT LOOK DISINTERESTED ANNOUNCER. Disinterested teams don't beat the #### out of the other team's offense with ferocious hits and completely shut down their running game.
2619. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:45 PM (#4337478)
Florida is consistently one of the most penalized teams in the country. Like, it's a phenomenon that goes back to the 90's. Through four different coaches. It's quite impressive.
   2620. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:49 PM (#4337481)
Edit: FLORIDA DOES NOT LOOK DISINTERESTED ANNOUNCER.

It's lazy announcing. They're losing because they can't stop anyone on third down, and their offense is bad (the latter is normal, the former is not). But it's standard announcer-speak to chalk such things up to character, or "wanting it more", or what have you.

It's the humidity. I was in Sarasota for a few weeks a couple years ago and by the end of it I was clothes-lining grandmothers in the park just to stay sane.
   2622. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:50 PM (#4337483)
All-out blitz on third and long? I, uh, don't get it.

Edit: Terrific catch, though.
   2623. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:50 PM (#4337484)
If Parker kept his feet in, that was incredible.
2624. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:51 PM (#4337485)
I'm hardly shocked that UF's offense is struggling so badly. It's what they do.

But what Louisville is doing to Florida's defense...that's stunning. This is legitimately one of the best defenses in the country, and Bridgewater's eviscerating it with ease.
   2625. Howling John Shade Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:52 PM (#4337486)
Teddy Bridgewater might be good. Also, great catch.
   2626. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:52 PM (#4337488)
All-out blitz on third and long? I, uh, don't get it.

I kinda see it. They figure their CBs can give em a second or two and he can't dance around the blitz. Problem is, Bridgewater throws the ball on that route as accurately as anyone in college. And Parker made an amazing catch.
2627. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:54 PM (#4337490)
Ah, Quinton Dunbar. AKA, "The Only Wide Receiver* Worth a Damn."

*Tight end Jordan Reed is pretty good.
   2628. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:57 PM (#4337491)
Ever since Percy Harvin left, UF has been in steady, and quick, decline at WR. They always manage to find some spectacular tight ends, though.
2629. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:57 PM (#4337492)
And that's why Driskel is starting. With UF's offensive line, you need wheels, and Jeff's got 'em.
2630. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 10:58 PM (#4337494)

They've got some good ones committed who'll be coming in for 2013, and they have a real good shot at one more highly regarded HS receiver. Of course, UF's had plenty of highly regarded HS receivers recently.

Try as we might, young men are still more influenced by their peers than anything. Changing coaches doesn't change what gets passed down player/player discussions.
   2632. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:00 PM (#4337497)
Has Burton thrown a single pass this year?

Like the play call there, even if it didn't quite work.
   2633. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:01 PM (#4337498)
Okay, you have to go for it here, right?
   2634. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:02 PM (#4337500)
Big time play call on that 4th down conversion. Well done Florida, way to get back in it.
   2635. Tom Nawrocki Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:02 PM (#4337501)
Wow, that was a sweet call.
   2636. Howling John Shade Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:02 PM (#4337502)
Wow, ballsy. Big play there.
   2637. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:03 PM (#4337503)
Yeah, nice work by Brent Pease and company that drive, especially on 4th down.

Yeah, they ran a fake field goal against FSU where he threw to his wide open brother. His pass was bad, his brother botched the catch and it was incomplete.

I really, really wanted Burton to run the option with Sturgis. That would have been beautiful.
   2639. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:08 PM (#4337507)

Ah, okay. I missed the first half of the FSU game while stuck on the Mass Pike.

As badly as UF has played, I'm happy they're only down by as much as they are at the half. And yes, I've said those words many, many times this year.
2640. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:10 PM (#4337508)
Burton also threw a jump pass against Alabama in 2010. It...didn't end well.
   2641. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:14 PM (#4337510)
That was a great play call by Florida. It was definitely needed too, because they're not getting back in this game with field goals.

Louisville's passing game is just shredding Florida. I think Bridgewater needs to hold onto it a couple more times on these zone read options though.

I do think they need to keep running the ball, but I think they can dial it back a bit. It's setting up too many 3rd and medium and 3rd and long, and you can't expect to keep converting those at such an insane rate.

That said, this doesn't look like luck. Bridgewater has made a couple of incredible passes but the receivers are finding open holes almost every play. And no pass rush, save for that one bull rush sack.
2642. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:16 PM (#4337512)
For the first time in my life I'm glad I'm not a member of the UF football team. Especially on the defensive side. That locker room is not going to be a fun place. Muschamp might set a record for most consecutive obscenities.
   2643. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:19 PM (#4337513)
Obviously this game isn't over, and Florida could still win.

I've seen enough to where I want Texas to drive a dumptruck full of money to Charlie Strong's house to coach Texas, and create some advisor role or something for Mack Brown. I would like Mack Brown to eventually be the AD, but I don't think he's going to win a championship again as head coach. Granting that winning a national championship is really f'n difficult.
   2644. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:25 PM (#4337516)
I'm tickled pink that the Big East has fallen so far that the MWC is now a more desirable conference and probably the top non-Big5.
2645. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:29 PM (#4337517)
Man, Strong has these guys well-prepared.

Do you think Muschamp is ever happy at halftime?

Onside kick! Good work by Louisville to recover, but I like the idea.
   2647. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:29 PM (#4337520)
Oooh!!! I was expecting to not need or want to watch the end of this game before it started.
   2648. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:30 PM (#4337522)
Failed onside kick, 2 personal fouls!!! And an ejection! WHAT!?!?

Here's the ball on the 20!!!!
   2649. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:31 PM (#4337523)
Two personal fouls? That's the most Florida play ever.
   2650. Howling John Shade Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:31 PM (#4337524)
Man, if you're going to get ejected, you have to get off a better punch than that.
   2651. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:31 PM (#4337525)
WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE!!!
   2652. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:32 PM (#4337526)
Not how Florida wanted to start the half. Exactly how Louisville did. Awesome.
   2653. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:32 PM (#4337527)
That was not the pass coverage I'd expect to see from the best pass efficiency defense in the country.
   2654. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:33 PM (#4337528)
BUT YOU SHALL NOT HAVE THE EXTRA POINT!!!!

Alas, I'm living for small victories here.
2655. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:33 PM (#4337529)
I just don't understand how UF's corners can be so bad today. They intercepted Aaron Murray three times, shut down the Heisman Trophy winner for a half, intercepted EJ Manuel several times...these guys are good. And so is Bridgewater, to be clear, but he's not the second coming of Peyton Manning, and this is not the 2007 secondary.
   2656. The Yankee Clapper Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:34 PM (#4337530)
Florida being relegated to the Big East?
   2657. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:34 PM (#4337532)
Hey Louisville players, stop pulling that guy up, he should be laying on the ground.
   2658. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:35 PM (#4337533)
And so is Bridgewater, to be clear, but he's not the second coming of Peyton Manning, and this is not the 2007 secondary.

I'm not so sure that is the case. I didn't much of him after the UNC game, but his throws against Rutgers, at like 40%, combined with tonight, make me think Bridgewater is absolutely a very special QB right now.

Sweet tackle.
2659. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:36 PM (#4337536)
This is a crap cherry on top of an otherwise delicious sundae.

Well, Bridgewater really is having a fantastic game. Pretty much every pass has been right on target. But yeah, the corners look awful.
   2661. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:38 PM (#4337539)
Oh, crikey.

As near as I could tell, Driskell looked before the snap and saw that guy was blitzing, and STILL got blind sided there.
   2664. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:39 PM (#4337544)
This is going to get ugly. I love it!
   2665. Tom Nawrocki Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:39 PM (#4337545)
Was Florida supposed to be one of the SEC's good teams?
2666. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:40 PM (#4337546)
It really sucks that this is going to be Mike Gillislee's last game.
   2667. Foghorn Leghorn Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:40 PM (#4337547)
They trailed in total yardage and score. WHAT MORE DO PEOPLE WANT.
So, if he misses the FG, then LSU is better?
   2668. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:40 PM (#4337548)
Florida is bringing their ULL game today. Unfortunately for them, they're not playing ULL.
   2669. Foghorn Leghorn Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:41 PM (#4337550)
Penalties 1 7
Penalty Yards 10 78

That's pretty insane right there.
   2670. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:42 PM (#4337551)
Big stand by the D. Louisville needs to hit the FG to get something here.

Boo. UF gets a shot to get something back here. Not clutch Cards.
   2671. Foghorn Leghorn Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:42 PM (#4337552)
You do realize only one of those numbers is small?
What did Clemson average?
   2672. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:43 PM (#4337553)
Well that looked like good defense. I assume these guys don't want to be cubes of meat in Muschamp's freezer.

Jesus, Louisville really pissed away a good opp there.
2673. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:43 PM (#4337554)
My first thought after that missed field goal was, "Roughing the kicker, right?"
   2674. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:43 PM (#4337556)
And the Florida defense decides to look like the Florida defense for a drive. Nice work.
   2675. Foghorn Leghorn Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:45 PM (#4337558)
LSU essentially scored half of their points on two plays.
Not "essentially", *LITERALLY*. Just like Clemson. Jesus H Christ.

So, you have no thoughts on the Les Miles brain-dump with under two? You think he did that because Dabo put a mind-juju on him?

Perfect.

   2687. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:51 PM (#4337574)

My, that's a smart play call by Louisville. If they try to run on third and short, UF probably stuffs them.

TOKYO DRIFT!!!
   2690. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:53 PM (#4337578)
Bridgewater is having a crazy good night and so is Shawn Watson. This is the kind of game that gets your coaching staff poached.
   2691. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:54 PM (#4337579)
Florida sure does hit people hard.
   2692. Spivey Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:56 PM (#4337581)
Don't look now, but Louisville is actually running the ball down Florida's throat on this drive.

Edit: Well... by Louisville standards.
   2693. Brian White Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:56 PM (#4337582)
UF deserves to get penalized a lot, but it does make you kinda paranoid. Like, if it was UF with the ball on that 3rd and 1, the right tackle flinch would have almost certainly been called a false start. These are just the kind of things to think being a UF fan.
   2694. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 02, 2013 at 11:56 PM (#4337583)
Well, I won't argue with the first part, but BEING IN THE WHITE!?!?!

The announcers suggested someone ran into a coach during the play, but then of course, they didn't show it, so who the hell knows. There are a butt load of unusual and bad officiating this bowl season.

"In the white chick" was pretty much Chris Rainey's entire mission statement during his time in Gainesville, so maybe the penalty was a tribute to that loathsome creep.

The amount of tears cried over the SEC ####### the rest of college football for a decade has really made for some out of the woodworks crying.

What tears? I'm just repeating the SEC mantra whenever they lose a game. See Alabama-Utah, Georgia-West V, or hell, even the first half of Georgia-Nebraska from yesterday.

What this game really shows, to me, is how inconsistent college football teams are. Yes, this team beat A&M at A&M. They also needed a last minute blocked punt to beat ULL at home. ND pulling one out of their ass is brought up a lot, but a lot of teams do that kind of stuff.

I guess Alabama probably didn't have a total clunker of a game, but they were soundly outplayed by LSU in a win that was pretty lucky.

That's a tackle Florida would normally make. They look frustrated.

It's the problem of a team that only does one thing well. If that one thing isn't working, man, it gets ugly real, real quick.

Although, to be fair, UF does two things well. Defense, and kicking.

Oh, you were just trolling. My bad.
