Alabama Is still Ranked #1.  Will they hold steady to repeat? Make it to the title game?  Or does another team claim the Crystal ball in Miami in January.

Commercial-that-never-leaves-the-field is literally the most pointless idea ever.

OU should have taken the offsides penalty on their first down inside the red zone.
   2903. JJ1986 Posted: January 04, 2013 at 09:07 PM (#4339408)
The A&M tackles are both dominating in pass protection. Joeckel just flipped a guy in the air.

Can't do that you silly 20 year old freshman.

I thought there was clearly a Sooner across the line at the snap.

I thought there was clearly a Sooner across the line at the snap.

Apparently so did he. I missed it and of course, Fox doesn't show replays (even less than ESPN) because they suck.
   2907. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 04, 2013 at 09:23 PM (#4339414)
Typical Landry Jones throw for a pick. And now A&M rolls. Crap.
   2908. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 04, 2013 at 09:30 PM (#4339417)
I'm pretty sure that is OU's fourth time out this half.

Edit: Yup, ESPN play by play confirms that OU got 4 Time outs.
   2909. JJ1986 Posted: January 04, 2013 at 09:37 PM (#4339421)
Stills not having a good series. First he decided to wait and try to catch a ball through a defender on the long pass and now he drops one when he's open.
   2910. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 04, 2013 at 09:38 PM (#4339422)
OU needed that score, there are in a good position all things considered. And yeah, Stills' drop was awful.
   2911. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 04, 2013 at 09:48 PM (#4339426)
You only get three timeouts in a half right? I haven't lost my mind have I? Because I find it stunning that OU can take their fourth time out on a critical 3rd and 2, switch their entire package, convert, later score and have absolutely no one in the sports universe that I am aware of notice it.

Edit: Link for proof.

Quote marks usually signify that you are lifting something someone else said.
Usually.
I may be overlooking it, but I don't think I've said "them" at all, much less in regards to the SEC.
You said "they", if that helps you. And "their".
This is just you projecting whatever nonsense is going on in your head. The only reason I can think of for you to get so upset at someone poking at the over-the-top SEC braggadocio is that you don't like just how well-deserved that poking is.
I appreciate your pop psychology..wait, no, no one does.

And in regards to my team's hardware, I am happy enough with what they have and what position they are in that I don't have to project my conference's success as the overarching goal.
I note you kept that team's name out of it.

heck of a first half. So far bowl season has been pretty good.

Cowboy I think what you are assuiming was there second timeout was taken by TAMU the official just pointed the wrong way on tv. and it looks like it was recorded wrong, I was listening to the game on the radio when it was called
   2915. Foghorn Leghorn Posted: January 04, 2013 at 10:04 PM (#4339434)
Again, your game theory analysis is spot on. I quiver at the thought of encountering you at the tables some day, master of strategy!
You are welcome. I'm surprised - you aren't usually this appreciative of my insights.

So, I appreciate ordinal rankings a ton.

Denard averaged 120 passing ypg, and 115 rushing ypg.
SoCar avg 145 yds per game, and Lattimore got half of that. The second biggest runner was the QB (who passed for more ypg than Denard). SoCar didn't have a Gardner to step in, so the loss of Lattimore was significantly more troublesome.

And I get 86th and 98th, but I guess my stats include the bowl game.

If you say so. I saw nothing to indicate that was the case, and the TV production had the half ending with A&M in possession of two timeouts. That would certainly explain it, but I don't see how both Fox and ESPN got it wrong.
   2918. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: January 04, 2013 at 10:22 PM (#4339444)

   2925. Spivey Posted: January 05, 2013 at 12:04 AM (#4339470)
By the end of the year I think Baylor and Oklahoma State were playing the best football in the Big 12. The conference was good, but because of depth. Oklahoma and KSU were pretty much outmanned the last two nights. They were also both garbage in the red zone.

Today was a difficult game to watch, with your two big rivals playing. I guess that's why I skipped a lot of it.

Recruiting is a weird thing. Nebraska didn't get McNabb, cuz he didn't want to sit bench behind Frazier for two years, Jamal Lewis wanted to play immediately and Carl Crawford wanted to play baseball (smart move). In this case UT didn't woo him as a qb, I assume it was the old come here and play safety?
   2927. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: January 05, 2013 at 12:12 AM (#4339476)
Brad Wing (P) a LSU junior just declared himself eligible for the draft. I seriously cannot remember a punter leaving early. Has he graduated? I'm pretty sure he's an Aussie. Even as the top punter, what we're talking 3rd round at best.

If he's remembered, it is for scoring on a fake punt last season vs Fla, only to have it called back for taunting before the goal line. Actually he punted very well against just about everybody last season, but particularly @ Bama in the 9-6 game.
   2928. Spivey Posted: January 05, 2013 at 12:16 AM (#4339478)
Manziel - yeah, Texas recruited him as a safety. Apparently he was going to go to Oregon because they were the only big time school recruiting him as a QB but A&M recruited him as a QB at the last second. Oregon would have the best offense of all time this year if they had Manziel. (Until the next hypothetical year.)
   2929. Spivey Posted: January 05, 2013 at 12:17 AM (#4339479)
As far as the punter leaving early goes, good for him. Get while the gettings good. I have a hard time imagining how an All-American level punter is going to improve his stock.

Is there anyone more capable of being mercenary than a punter? Who does he need? A competent long snapper?

as a former long snapper, this is critical, although less of an issue at high level football over the years, as snapping has improved by my eye sight over the years.
   2935. bunyon Posted: January 05, 2013 at 07:19 AM (#4339529)
2934: I've never played nor do I watch a lot of football at any level but, casually, I have to agree. It seems growing up it wasn't all that uncommon to see a snap in the dirt or over the head of the punter (also on FG/PAT). But when I read your comment , I realized I haven't seen one in years.

An Aussie who likes drugs? I'm surprised he bothered with a college team in the first place.

I wish I went to the Texas/Ole Miss game this year. I hear that Ole Miss is one of the best tailgates around, and the game was pretty crazy. Ole Miss is a solid team. They almost beat a couple of the SEC powers this year.

Ole Miss IS the best tailgate around anywhere I've been twice, and it is off the charts the best tailgate in the Grove, and I'm pretty well traveled in college football road games. Also best looking women at any school I've ever seen. Ole Miss definitely looked pretty good down the stretch, and probably unperformed in retrospect.

Also, a decent MNC drinking game for tonight.

Bama 17, ND 13. I still want ND to win, but I need to pick the right team to win my Bowl Pick'em pool and I've got my points on Bama. I'll believe someone can beat the SEC in this game when it actually happens. Still, I think ND has as good a shot as anyone during the SEC's run.

I just don't see Notre Dame's offense being good enough to beat Alabama. I think Notre Dame is definitely good enough to beat Alabama, but I still think Nick Saban with a month to prepare is too much to overcome.

Alabama: 27
Notre Dame: 13

   2958. Spivey Posted: January 07, 2013 at 04:13 PM (#4341142)
ND seems to combine some of the elements that LSU and A&M were able to do against Alabama. The key is the QB play IMO. If he plays like a poor man's Manziel I like ND's chances. If he plays like an athletic freshman I think Alabama wins by a couple of scores. I don't have faith in him - but a lot of it is going to come down to a few deep passes, they need to hit at least a couple of them.

31-10 Bama. This team is ready to explode. I rewatched the SEC championship last night and was struck by the run blocking of the Tide O-Line. by the 4th quarter, they will wear down the ND D-Line and control the clock. Roll Tide!!

Alabama's running game has - more than their defense IMO - been the dominant force over the last 4 or 5 years. But Georgia sucks against the run, and ND does not. Still going to be a tall order for ND. They need sustained drives or their defense is going to be left out to dry.

Not really too concerned with Golson gashing Alabama on the ground.

That makes sense since there aren't many, if any, QBs who can run like Manziel (Certainly not Jordan ####### Lynch). I'm guessing Golson's mobility will come into play mostly behind the line on passing downs and on 3rd and shorts. If he can extend plays long enough for Eiffert to get open and maybe pick up a first down or two with his legs, that will be a big deal and help loosen up the Tide's D a bit.

I guess I meant handled in the sense they did not do much damage on the ground (he got 39 yards on 22 carries) and Newton did his carnage in the pocket against Alabama in that game. I have tried to put that game out of my memory, but I don't remember many plays that Newton hit because he extended the play with his feet.
   2968. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: January 07, 2013 at 04:46 PM (#4341179)
I don't expect Golson to get a lot of yards on the ground. Be isn't actually that fast. His mobility is more the extend-the-play variety, though he can pick up the occasional first down.

I hope he doesn't run much; the dude only weighs 185 and should not be taking hits. The real risk he poses is that he has a very good arm and can get it down the field on busted plays.

that is true,if were talking about 'handling' the running portion of guys like him. I recall him getting sacked at least four times in that 1st half (accounts for some hefty negative rushing too.) More than anything, my memory remembers some huge missed tackles and broken Bama defensive assignments which lost that game.

I'll be way more suprised by that type of a ND comeback tonight, than I was by tOSU gaining a mere 82 yards against Florida in Arizona seven years ago.

My first stay up to the end memory was the '82 Orange Bowl, when Clemson beat Nebraska, I was not quite six. Of course college football is huge in our house and there would be no putting the boys to bed early.

btw: strong reports suggest JerryWorld will host the first college football I-A playoff final, with NOLA and Pasadena hosting semis.

He has school tomorrow and he's very cranky when he doesn't have enough sleep.

Less than impressive start by the Irish here.

How can the center move his whole body bwforw he snaps the ball?
   2983. Dan The Mediocre Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:36 PM (#4341342)
ND is incredibly nervous. I hope they settle down.
   2984. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:36 PM (#4341343)
Holy ####, that was pathetic. I don't think they scored that fast against Western Kentucky.

Alabama is gonna win this game by 50 if this keeps up.

Can both teams lose? Or the stadium sink into hell? Because that's the only thing that could make me happy.
   2986. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:42 PM (#4341350)
That's a catch. Horrible call. The refs are pressing too.

Edit: Oh, right, it's a PAC-12 crew. They have been dreadful in every bowl game I have seen them in.
2987. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:42 PM (#4341351)
Thats a catch
2988. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:44 PM (#4341353)
If that isnt called a catch the fix is in
   2989. hokieneer Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:44 PM (#4341354)
Looks like a catch to me.

I hope zop is reading these complaints.
2991. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:45 PM (#4341358)
Yeah, he pretty clearly caught that inbounds. ND is getting jobbed, take that God's team!
   2992. JJ1986 Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:46 PM (#4341359)
I thought he lost it again after he was out.
2993. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:46 PM (#4341360)
Yup the fix is in
   2994. Brian White Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:46 PM (#4341361)
Oh, man, NOW Notre Dame has something to complain about.
   2995. Cowboy Popup Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:47 PM (#4341363)
Another terrible call. Wow.
2996. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:47 PM (#4341364)
Holy ####, who in Alabama has enough money to pay the refs to give the game to Alabama?

eta: there's no way Alabama doesn't win this game, because the refs simply won't let them. SEC > everyone else!
   2997. JJ1986 Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:47 PM (#4341365)
That was absolutely not kick-catch interference, though.
   2998. hokieneer Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:47 PM (#4341367)
Wow thats another bad call.

Would never imagine the irish getting worked over by the refs.
2999. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:48 PM (#4341368)
2 against one is not a fair fight
   3000. Foghorn Leghorn Posted: January 07, 2013 at 08:48 PM (#4341369)
What's the rule? Does the ball have to hit the ground (after a fair catch) before you hit the guy? Or just him touch it? If he bobbles, can you crush him? I think the ball has to hit the ground on a FC.
