Actually, I just didn't watch those bowls, because they were on ESPN and I don't have cable. Also, you're completely underselling the myriad and multitudinous ways in which I am a prick.
It's kind of tough since there aren't any baseball fans in south Florida I guess. Whatever happened to Black and Teal? Did he go off to college and discover girls or something?
Good for the WAC to go out on top.
Bama's secondary is playing great tonight.
Jefferson/Lee snafu with Golson/Rees?
I know. Bored now. Score more touchdowns, random SEC school!
They can always get more money from daddy.
I don't interact with you outside of the college football threads and watching you piss on Mets fans, which I enjoy reading. But this is the only place on the internet with reasoned discussions of college football and so I'm touchier here.
They can't even drink, right? So sad.
I know a real piece of #### ND fan whose family took a limo to the game. Sadly, they can afford it so I will just have to enjoy knowing that he is hurting tonight.
Game's also on ESPN3.com.
It's a big thread. There's room enough for reasoned discussions and me as well. I only suck all of the oxygen out of a room in real life.
If you're going to attack Catholics for the sexual-abuse scandals, then at least give credit for the abundant drinking.
there's a board I go to that does it right, but this is pretty damn good for that too, way less Mich/tOSU barb domination here.
I have a standing agreement with a friend to go to New Orleans if the Falcons play the Ravens in the Superbowl. If that happens, I have no intention of going to the actual game. Seems a waste of drinking time.
That's a fair point. I'll stop being an irritable douche for the evening.
Game's also on ESPN3.com.
Yeah, if you live in ####### Alaska.
Great throw, great catch. Also, sort of a horse collar tackle.
God, I forgot about the drunken Irish Catholics fighting all night and then going home to beat their wives. I feel so bad.
And all the really good, humane, Catholics who work hard to fulfill the ideal of Christian charity out there. They're not to blame for the Vatican.
I accidentally scheduled the opera for tonight. Sounds like I'm not missing much, thank Bo.
Thanks, hopefully we keep it up in the 2nd half.
To be fair, I enjoy watching Notre Dame lose the same way I enjoy watching Duke lose in basketball. So I'm probably worse about this than I would be otherwise.
Also, angry bitter meatwad is hilarious.
+1
cfn (collegefootball news) they have a forums message board, separated by conferences. a few conferences rarely have regular posts, it is basically dominated by four leagues. The SEC page can be ok, but gets carried away, so I mainly stick to BIG and XII. We run off trolls, make fun of people who think chili has beans and people who are simply there to poke your eye. Zero religion/politics tolerated, lots of us have been posting for years, and a decent contingent gets together annually at a random game somewhere.
otherwise, it is a cesspool going to nearly every team message board out there.
A lot of it is that they still get attention as though they're a perennial top-5 team.
i am glad you found a niche of reason. among the cadre of sports fans as a group college football fans are the least reasonable
in the u.s. that is
my euro pals tell me soccer fans are just stupid as a group
i do not have personal knowledge
And that even if they're only good they get feted like they're a leading championship contender despite having been largely irrelevant for a long while.
This, and the fact that I was in college from 1990-1995 and have no intention of forgiving either ND or Duke anytime soon.
For example, they could eke out an 12-0 record against a rather pedestrian, overrated schedule and still play for the MNC while Oregon and better teams from stronger conferences play in secondary bowls.
Turns out a little Lou Holtz leaves a lifetime of lingering loathing ...
I know a guy who had his radio show get pre-empted tonight because his station is the local Notre Dame affiliate. I live in Georgia.
Notre Dame hasn't been relevant for years but a lot of people act like they are.
A lot of it is the NBC tv deal.
Funny moment when a Notre Dame fan was complaining about the behavior of the Miami fans to one of my friends in Scottsdale before the Fiesta Bowl. My friend Russ replied, "We played them this year and you are right. You know not one in ten of them have ever been on the Miami campus."
When the guy - who was very nice and I assume a Notre Dame alum - moved on, I asked Russ what percentage of Notre Dame fans he thought had ever been on campus. He didn't realize what he had said, and hadn't meant anything by it, but I thought it was very funny.
that's college football
Making people listen to Lou Holtz spit and sputter while he talks is a killing offense.
Why does one have to have a good reason anyway? Sometimes it's fun to dislike teams. Makes watching the games more enjoyable. I would say that there are at least 3 or 4 teams in each major sports league that I dislike, mostly for insignificant reasons.
his spit and sputter is him talking
Anyway, I'm 30 years old. I have a PhD. I didn't follow college football as a kid because the only teams I had a reason to follow were Duke and Temple, so if I had a propensity for college football fandom I would have committed suicide halfway through high school. I have only the barest memory of Lou Holtz being anything other than a clown and/or coaching South Carolina. From here it seems like it's time to put aside the grudges.
I like to bag on him as much as the next guy, but in this case I do think it is partially a medical condition.
please translate
I do not consider major medical conditions to be reason to take it easy on old men, much less minor conditions. Until someone ball gags that son of a #####, I still have to listen to him attempt to speak coherently through spittle!

Darnell Dockett of the Arizona Cardinals just accidentally tweeted his phone number to everyone. He meant it as a private message to AJ McCarron's girlfriend. It's since been deleted.
i am sure she is correct as everyone over the age of 70 has surmised the same thing. and none of us have family that would allow us to embarrass ourselves like that
it's ridiculous
are folks thinking he was hitting on another man's girlfriend??
mabye their dark uniforms are 'slimming'
Is there some statistic everyone was ignoring, that ND's players are on averqge 50 pounds lighter than their Bama counterparts?
too late young'un. already called that out.
ha, ha
i am sure. every day is a new day. makes for a cheery existence
it looked great on the blackboard
so you're saying notre dame is due??
I am an Alabama fan and I was calling it as well. No back-patting for me though
I know this isn't the right answer, but I remember 2004, when the Gophers beat Alabama in a bowl game. Minnesota is yet to capitalize on that win.
Alabama's line has that effect on very good teams. It has even more of that effect on teams like ND. They're huge and they pound you all night long, until you are mush.
God I was at that game. Alabama's skill position players probably could not start at Hoover High. We had a good defense though.
Ha. If Mason only had a defense, they should've found there way to Pasadena at least by dumb luck, they had some great offenses. Not sure anyone has ever capitalized on a Music City Bowl win. Whatever capital they had, they lost it in the blocked punt fiasco against UW in '05, or the 38-7 meltdown loss to Leach and TT in '06.
Some Sunbelt team in Saban's first year. ULM? This was my first year really paying attention to the sport, and I remember being puzzled about why everyone was so happy Saban and Bama lost to a Sunbelt team. From my ignorant perspective, they were just another also ran in the SEC West.
