Still horse crap how they ended up on the pk.
   702. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 24, 2014 at 08:50 PM (#4712943)
Offense is really coming alive right now. Been awhioe since that hawks looked like that.
   703. Shredder Posted: May 24, 2014 at 09:34 PM (#4712969)
Kings missing too many opportunities to send Hawks into the third row. Hip checks aren't enough. They need to absolutely destroy guys when they get the chance.
   704. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 24, 2014 at 09:41 PM (#4712974)
Come on how do let those last 2 goals in.
   705. Shredder Posted: May 24, 2014 at 09:41 PM (#4712975)
Top Titty!! Way to come back after a borderline call.
   706. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 24, 2014 at 09:45 PM (#4712978)
The hawks might as well pass on the pp tonight have been horrid so far.
   707. Shredder Posted: May 24, 2014 at 10:31 PM (#4712997)
Wow. He's been without a doubt the best defenseman in this series. That was a rocket.
   708. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 24, 2014 at 10:32 PM (#4712998)
So close to having a great kill there. Hawks really need to get something going asap.
   709. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 24, 2014 at 10:36 PM (#4713001)
Really need a goal asap cant think youll score twice in the last minute.

Too little too late. ####### crawford.
   711. Robert in Manhattan Beach Posted: May 25, 2014 at 12:46 AM (#4713040)
Fun game tonight. Glad to see Voynov back on the powerplay. Greene - after his traffic cone impersonation in Game 1 - has been removed completely from the penalty kill in favor of Muzzin. Promising. I've cleared my schedule for Friday night. I'm amazed that they could basically give the Hawks a free goal to start things and then still beat them pretty handily. Didn't see that coming.
   712. Shredder Posted: May 26, 2014 at 09:49 PM (#4713707)
Two reckless penalties by the Hawks, two Kings goals.
   713. Shredder Posted: May 26, 2014 at 11:46 PM (#4713752)
I'd be pretty confident if I hadn't just seem the Kings come down from a bigger deficit. This is far from over.

Too little too late. ####### crawford.

Crawford's one of the last players I'd blame for this game or (so far) mess of a series. Not one skater looked particularly good tonight.
   715. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 27, 2014 at 03:45 AM (#4713773)
That wasn't worth waking up at 2am to watch, especially since the "Premium WiFi" wasn't much better quality than the normal one.

There really hasn't been much difference in this series, outside of the PP/PK. Kings are just destroying the Hawks there. Quick is playing a little better than Crawford, in that he's making some tougher saves, but I don't really think you can put any of the goals from games 3 or 4 on him. Hawks controlled the play 5 on 5 a lot yesterday, even in the first.

That's not to say a number of guys aren't playing well. Sharp has been pretty invisible all playoffs; he's not even getting off as many shots as he was early on. The Kings have effectively eliminated all of Kane's space. Hossa is getting chances but just isn't finishing. Neither Seabrook or Oduya are as reliable as they were last year; Keith even had a couple costly mistakes last night. I've said it before - and even though on paper I was fine with Hawks lines last night - the Hawks aren't as deep as last year so they're not rolling their lines and the shifts are all over place. The Hawks have gotten killed on the road, and that's cause the other teams are able to matchup and exploit the bottom of the Hawks' roster a lot easier than last year. Kruger is a fine defensive center, but the Hawks only have one center who can create anything for his lines and it's really hurting.

A couple of bounces could go their way and the series could easily turn around. I wouldn't count on the Kings making mistakes to let the Hawks back in, so the Hawks really just have to play smarter (I feel like they've taken more dumb penalties in the playoffs than they did all regular season).
   716. Robert in Manhattan Beach Posted: May 27, 2014 at 04:34 AM (#4713774)
In person what stands out is that the Blackhawks are very passive on the PK, much more so than the other teams the Kings have played. They let the Kings pass it around mostly unchallenged, they let guys stand in front of Crawford unchallenged. I don't really understand how that is supposed to work.

The Kings were all over them tonight, their best game of the series. They have temporarily fooled me into thinking they are the better team. I expect a rough ride Wednesday night, but the Kings have a good chance of winning this thing now which exceeds my expectations.
   717. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 27, 2014 at 04:53 AM (#4713776)
The Hawks always play the PK that way, and the PK was terrible for the first half of the year. It's a shitty time for it to start sucking again. That's the extent of Handzus's ability at this point in his career, try to take up space and get in the way, and he's one of the top guys on the PK. The Hawks also don't really have any physical blue liners (Seabrook has the size, but Brookbank, who rarely plays, is the most physical defender they have), but they still usually clear the crease a little better.

I think the Kings, when everything is clicking, are arguably the best team in the NHL. It doesn't always click, but they should be scoring similar to this rate with the offensive talent they have. That said, the same thing could possibly be said of the Hawks, too. Again, I understand the Kings fan underdog mentality with the Hawks winning so many of the games before now, but they are very evenly matched and similar teams.

If I was a genie, and it was 15 minutes to the launch of every nuke in the world, the only change I'd make is that they were all aimed at Montreal. I hate that team more than I hate any team other than the Lakers and the Yankees. Ugh. I don't even like the Rangers! I actively dislike them! But they're infinitely preferable to those shitheels up north.
   719. Robert in Manhattan Beach Posted: May 28, 2014 at 12:16 AM (#4714408)
Well then.
   720. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 28, 2014 at 05:04 AM (#4714437)
From my view over here in the hockey utopia that's the WCF (in spite of the fact my team is losing badly), both the Habs and Rangers are clear shitheels and neither teams' goonery should be rewarded.
   721. Shredder Posted: May 28, 2014 at 09:46 PM (#4714997)
When did the Hawks turn into a bunch of divers? Kane made Greg Louganis envious on that one.
   722. Shredder Posted: May 28, 2014 at 11:35 PM (#4715065)
What a great period of hockey that first overtime was.
   723. Langer Monk Posted: May 28, 2014 at 11:39 PM (#4715069)
And fast enough for me to stay up and watch the 2d OT.
   724. Shredder Posted: May 28, 2014 at 11:44 PM (#4715074)
And the shittiest center on the Hawks beats the shittiest center on the Kings. Looking forward to Richards' amnesty.
   725. zack Posted: May 28, 2014 at 11:46 PM (#4715075)
That was a great game, especially the 3rd and first OT.

Brandon Saad had a fantastic game.
   726. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 29, 2014 at 02:06 AM (#4715129)
Being sick since sunday and missig these last 2 games because of work. Wtf is going on that a fan wants battery charges filed against crawford.
   727. Robert in Manhattan Beach Posted: May 29, 2014 at 03:19 AM (#4715133)
Well, they had their chance to win the series. Blew it. Getting beat with your fourth line on the ice when the when the period had just started is madness.

Now all the pressure shifts back to LA to win Game 6. Sigh.
   728. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 29, 2014 at 03:45 AM (#4715134)
I guess that goal means I have to lay off Handzus for a couple of days. Of course, it's not a coincidence that both Kane and Saad had their best games when they weren't on his line (though they were on the ice for the GWG). It was about time he won a key draw though, and it's never been a problem with him of knowing what to do, it's just he's too old and slow to get there in time. So good for him.

Crawford wasn't great - if you want to point out a bad game for him this series, last night is the one you want, but neither was Quick; both made great saves at points, especially OT.

When did the Hawks turn into a bunch of divers? Kane made Greg Louganis envious on that one.

Geez, always so melodramatic? Hawks aren't divers*, and that wasn't a dive by Kane. He was looking for the puck - since he didn't have it - and didn't seem to have any idea someone was going to hit him from behind. I get the whistles get swallowed in OT, but that non-call on the Toews trip was pretty big (and so was the non-call on the cross check to the back of Shaw's head during a PP, a 5on3 there would have been huge).

*I will not defend Bollig here, and you're going to have do more better than that to get this one to stick. You want to see diving, take a look at the ECF.
   729. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 29, 2014 at 03:45 AM (#4715135)
That was about as even of a game as you can get, by the way. The Corsi was exactly 50/50 for 5on5 last night. Great, entertaining stuff, and thankfully it's not over.
   730. Robert in Manhattan Beach Posted: May 29, 2014 at 04:14 AM (#4715139)
if you want to point out a bad game for him this series, last night is the one you want, but neither was Quick

Quick looked very, very nervous. Rebounds all over the place, stumbling around in his crease, drops and misplays aplenty. He settled down as the game went on and his teammates bailed him out, but for an alleged world class goalie it was amateur hour out there for a while.
   731. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 29, 2014 at 05:55 AM (#4715143)
And the shittiest center on the Hawks beats the shittiest center on the Kings. Looking forward to Richards' amnesty.

I understand why fans don't like Richards, and he is overpaid, but he's still more useful than Handzus. To be fair to Richards here though, I'm not sure you can completely blame Zus being left alone on him - even though it looks bad since he's following Zus in on the play. When Kane brings the puck in the zone, it's essentially a 2 on 3. After Kane passes to Saad on the right, Lewis* (the 3rd King) chases the puck over to Saad and Clifford (the 4th King) is directly behind Zus but also follows the puck**, meaning 3 Kings are within 5-10 feet of Saad when he makes the pass to Zus. Richards is directly behind Clifford as they enter the zone, and Clifford actually bumped/screened Richards earlier on the play which is why Richards was the last guy back. Voynov correctly stayed with Kane away from the play and Mitchell was in front of Saad; Seabrook (being checked by Clifford) and Leddy are just entering the zone as the puck goes in the net. Looks like a total defensive breakdown to me. Also a great job by Q getting that line out there against the Kings' 4th line***.

*It almost looks like Lewis realizes his mistake and tries to get back to Handzus, but he's too late. He gets back just in time to swipe the puck away after it bounces back out of the net.
**From the other angle, you can tell he's headed over to get in Seabrook's path and not necessarily just puck chasing.
***I'm not completely sure why Zus is out there with Kane/Saad to start the play though. Maybe Shaw wasn't going to play in the 2nd OT after coming back for the first OT after his injury. I mentioned Zus winning a draw before, but that doesn't appear to be the case on this play and he was easily the worst at the dot last night, so it wasn't like he was out there just for that. At least Q admitted after the game he thinks he found something he wants to stick with in the Kane/Shaw/Saad line.

Quick looked very, very nervous. Rebounds all over the place, stumbling around in his crease, drops and misplays aplenty. He settled down as the game went on and his teammates bailed him out, but for an alleged world class goalie it was amateur hour out there for a while.

The rebound on the 4th goal was about as bad as rebounds get; a soft shot from distance he essentially directs right to Smith's stick.
   732. Langer Monk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 08:57 PM (#4716328)
Keith Jones: Kings need to come out like they did against New Jersey in Game 6 two years ago. I think they scored 5 goals in the first?

No, they scored 3 times on a 5 minute major in the first. But good to know you pay attention. Really will not be enjoying a Kings-Rags final if that's what it comes to.
   733. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 30, 2014 at 09:08 PM (#4716332)
Time to pre-second guess Coach Q. Brookbank? Seriously? WHAT THE ####? You have 3 totally acceptable actual forwards to replace Versteeg - Regin, Morin, or Nordstrom. This is ####### stupid.
   734. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 09:25 PM (#4716338)
quick may get hit this game since a kings player clipped crawford already.
   735. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:09 PM (#4716361)
If you don't think Toews dove right there, after grabbing Kopitar's stick, you're high or a massive homer.
   736. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:10 PM (#4716362)
See you Sunday.
   737. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:20 PM (#4716366)
I missed the penelty opening up the period so i cant say anything one way or the other. However it was nice to see a pp goal.
   738. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:27 PM (#4716369)
If you think Toews dove there, you're a massive homer. If you think it mattered to the penalty call, you're blind; the ref had his arm up before Toews tripped. You have a point about the stiff arm (it wasn't a stick grab, IMO), but he didn't make Kopitar hold it.

Also, the Kings have a better chance of winning tonight, even losing by 1 whole goal, than winning Sunday, no?

[734] Not really a close watcher of the Hawks style the last 6 years, huh?
   739. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:33 PM (#4716376)
The kings have no chance of winning tonight. They've won two game sevens on the road, so any chance is better than no chance.
   740. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:33 PM (#4716379)
Eh i just figured someone like bolig or brookbank would clip quick to justify being in tje lineup.
   741. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:35 PM (#4716382)
Clean hit on shaw but rather dirty to hit kane after the play there.
   742. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:44 PM (#4716386)
Well looks like shaw got it done with some help from a kings player
   743. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:44 PM (#4716387)
Shaw needs to lose about six or seven teeth after that. Quick should have taken Crawford's head off right there.
   744. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:46 PM (#4716388)
So that was not a hit on Quick, Stoll rode Shaw into Quick and was trying to avoid the contact.

Both Sharp's and Hossa's inabilities to actually finish a goal is absolutely baffling. Each with only 2 goals in the playoffs.
   745. Langer Monk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:46 PM (#4716389)
Nice and testy now. That's fun.
   746. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:47 PM (#4716390)
Perhaps the kings shouldnt clip crawford on purpose and shouldnt push shaw into the goalie.
   747. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:48 PM (#4716391)
What dirty hit on Kane? I saw nothing.

Eh i just figured someone like bolig or brookbank would clip quick to justify being in tje lineup.

I'm purposely forgetting about Carcillo and Scott.
   748. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:48 PM (#4716393)
So that was not a hit on Quick, Stoll rode Shaw into Quick and was trying to avoid the contact.
You're precious.
   749. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:48 PM (#4716394)
It was huge but they knocked him down after the whistle for being near quick.
   750. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:51 PM (#4716396)
The kings have no chance of winning tonight. They've won two game sevens on the road, so any chance is better than no chance.

Crawford has been better than Quick so far, but a one goal lead when the play has been virtually even (both teams taking turns controlling) is nothing. Those games sevens were against lesser opponents, and were part of comebacks not collapses.
   751. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:53 PM (#4716397)
So that was not a hit on Quick, Stoll rode Shaw into Quick and was trying to avoid the contact.

Dude, Shaw was trying to stop and was trying to get away from Quick; Stoll was right on behind Shaw driving him to the crease. Try watching it again with your glasses on this time.
   752. HMS Moses Taylor Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:54 PM (#4716398)
Nick ?@dightkwing 8m
Chances after 2 periods are 14-6 (14-5 EV) for LA.
   753. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:55 PM (#4716401)
Any body who gas ever played hockey at ANY level knows that a player can do a hell of a lot more to stop than that. Yes, so many times players just happen to accidentally run into goalies. The fact that you buy it is precious.
   754. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:56 PM (#4716402)
So how do you explain crawford getting hit?
   755. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 10:57 PM (#4716403)
Lesser opponents? Sharks and Ducks both finished with better records than the Hawks. The Hawks are a great team, but It's not like the Kings took out the Panthers and the Oilers in game sevens.
   756. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:15 PM (#4716410)
Crawford should try to start a fight again.
   757. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:18 PM (#4716411)
Eh he would beat quicks ass
   758. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:19 PM (#4716413)
So how do you explain crawford getting hit?
Maybe he got run. If the Hawks don't like it, so something about it. If they want to run Quick, they're gonna pay for it. And Quick would have beat the living #### out of Crawford.
   759. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:22 PM (#4716414)
Wow, in in all honesty, though, Kings dodged one there. That goes in with the old wood sticks.

And FYI, I'm a few beers deep, stressing a move tomorrow, and nothing I say should be taken seriously.
   760. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:25 PM (#4716418)
Shredder i think that applys to all of us who have a rooting interest during a game. Win or lose for the hawks this has been a great game to watch tonight.
   761. Langer Monk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:27 PM (#4716420)
No matter what happens, I think we all agree, either one of these teams absolutely must beat the Rangers.
   762. Langer Monk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:30 PM (#4716421)
Incredible.

Two massive chokes.
   764. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:33 PM (#4716425)
Agreed tje west has to win it, the east winning would be sad after such a great playoff in the western conference.
   765. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:37 PM (#4716427)
Meh. I'll be rooting for the Rangers.
   766. Langer Monk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:38 PM (#4716428)

   767. Langer Monk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:40 PM (#4716429)
Terrific hockey game, again.
   768. Shredder Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:43 PM (#4716430)
I can never root for this fan base. If I had moved to Chicago in 2010 I might feel different, but the utter indifference of this town toward the Hawks for the fist 10 years I lived here was pathetic.
   769. odds are meatwad is drunk Posted: May 30, 2014 at 11:43 PM (#4716431)
I love the wc style of play less goons more skill with overall good defense thrown in.

   774. zack Posted: May 31, 2014 at 01:34 AM (#4716467)
First, Shreds you crazy. Kopitar put an open hand on Toews' chest, that's a hold every time. And the refs arm is going up before Toews even goes down. And that Shaw play on Quick happens at least once a game, he was railroaded in. If you want to complain about unusually severe goalie violence, an open-ice check on the goalie is way more notable.

I had to watch the game on delay (again), so here's my thoughts:

-Just like last year, Carter and Toffoli are terrifying together. There's a point with like 10 seconds left where Carter gets a pass right on the top of the paint and my heart may have stopped.

-How the hell did they not score on a friggin' 2-0 from the blueline in? Other than Sharp has clearly been sacrificing to the wrong god. Could've/should've made Quick move twice.

-How many times this series have the 'hawks given up nearly back-to-back goals, specifically giving up a goal, then immediately taking a really dumb penalty and conceding on the PK. Doesn't help that the last two games have featured broken passes that bounce directly to a King with space, but they absolutely cannot afford any penalty that is not a goal-saver.

-Doughty is incredible, moving him from top-5 to top-3 d-man in my personal ranking.

-I really thought we'd be seeing handshakes when Kruger's stick exploded after a perfect setup from Leddy. And then that Kane pass into space for Keith, jesus.

-Saad and Kane were huge again offensively, but are really not up to snuff defensively. Shaw is probably the worst defensive player on the 'hawks, and Kaner is the king of the flybys.

You win Hawks. Good series. The Kings are choking dogs and deserve to lose.

And #### Trevor Lewis. You have no offensive game, you are only on the team because of some weird fetish Sutter has for you and then you completely lose Keith and let him walk in for the tying goal. Go away already.

One final three game losing streak seems a fitting end to it all.

This thread on PHT about #1 ranked draft prospect Sam Bennett being unable to do a pull-up is hilarious. If anything, it's probably a good sign because A) who gives a #### about arm strength and B) he's been fantastic in the OHL without a lot of muscle, and muscle is a lot easier to add than skill.

thats pretty sad if he cant even do one. I can easily do 5 right now. but at least he can lift and get bigger and finish gowing.

I couldn't do a pull-up until I was about 20. Granting that at my peak I was able to do maybe 15 on a great day, in my case it simply had to do with my body developing and adding some muscle.

I'm not a high-end professional athlete, however. I would find that fact about Bennett disturbing. How's he going to stay on the puck with NHL players trying to knock him off it with no upper body strength?

Man Rangers fans are crazy

One finals appearance every 20+ years makes people delusional.

shades of kevin durant.
Man Rangers fans are crazy. reading a few random comments here and there and the sense I get is that they seem to think they are faster than both the hawks and the kings.
the rangers are a really fast team. i'm not sure how hard they throw or whether they like their dad, but i do think you'll be impressed by their speed.

Not looking forward to being at work tonight during the game.

I'm not watching tonight's game or DVRing it. I'll check the score before bed. Game 6 was crushing, I'm not doing that again.

Great start, but there's been a trend of the 'hawks jumping ahead early and the Kings storming back.
   788. zack Posted: June 01, 2014 at 08:26 PM (#4717034)
Who else in the league even tries to skate into the middle of four defenders like that?
   789. PASTE Thinks This Trout Kid Might Be OK (Zeth) Posted: June 01, 2014 at 08:45 PM (#4717041)
The Rangers are fast for an Eastern team. But honestly, I've watched every game of both conference finals and the Eastern versus Western finals have struck me as like watching Triple-A baseball and then Major League baseball.
   790. zack Posted: June 01, 2014 at 08:52 PM (#4717045)
If the 'hawks don't cut off those centering feeds from behind the net they're going to have a bad time.

I agree with this (mainly not that magnitude), but how much of that is because the Canadiens were the one team that clearly didn't belong, and how much is the Rangers?
   791. PASTE Thinks This Trout Kid Might Be OK (Zeth) Posted: June 01, 2014 at 08:53 PM (#4717046)
The Canadiens were as good as the Rangers, I thought. Playoff outcomes are semirandom; I certainly think the Canadiens made a more troublesome matchup for the Rangers than the Penguins did, but random stuff happens.
   792. zack Posted: June 01, 2014 at 09:30 PM (#4717056)
I wasn't judging the quality of the Canadiens on the series, I just don't think they were a 'conference final' team all season.

How many perfect bounces are there going to be in this game.
   793. Shredder Posted: June 01, 2014 at 09:33 PM (#4717057)
Seriously, though, hawks don't dive. Kruger apparently just learned to skate last week.
   794. Shredder Posted: June 01, 2014 at 09:34 PM (#4717058)
Shaw is 90% of the way down when he gets hit, but whatever. Congratulations, Hawks. go Rangers.
   795. zack Posted: June 01, 2014 at 09:43 PM (#4717059)
He was leaning down and got hit directly from behind into the boards. How is that not boarding?

Plus you sure complain about diving a lot for a team with Dustin Brown on it.

With Brown, don't confuse diving for an inability to skate. But point to one brown dive in this series if you can. The officiating at the end of that period was an absolute joke. Three straight horseshit calls. Each more incompetent than the one before. O'Halloran is absolutely pathetic. Even the CBC guys know those calls have been horseshit.
   798. Shredder Posted: June 01, 2014 at 10:00 PM (#4717069)
Add the NBC guys to that too.

Just saying that as a neutral this has been a fun game. As long as either team demolishes the Rangers I'm cool.
   800. Shredder Posted: June 01, 2014 at 10:39 PM (#4717090)
Hard to argue about anything that happens now. It's been a great series.
