Red and White Kop is "reporting" that Kenny was talking about the cat.

It is a good looking cat.

@696: Well, you weren't disappointed.

Man that game was dull.

Was a dull game, though Bale's chance at the end really could have been quite a dagger. It was almost as if he didn't know what to do being 1v1 with so much space. Oh well. Take the point and get outta Dodge, I say.

The jury is deliberating in the Harry Redknapp trial. Not sure how long it's supposed to take or what kind of verdict is expected.

So, do yesterday's theatrics make Gareth Bale a full-blown cheater? Or just a diver? : )

Just a diver. He does it occasionally when he gets frustrated. I've sent him a letter about it.

My gf wants to adopt the Anfield Cat now. After spending all day Sunday keeping her away from the phone and internet during Puppy Bowl, I thought soccer would give me a break from impulse animal adoption intervention.

edit: I should add I didn't see the game as I was off getting my Africa shots. From what I can gather, neither Bale nor Suarez covered themselves in glory. In the first game at WHL Suarez slapped Parker in the neck in very cheap fashion, too. The only thing I can think of is that Parker is deep inside Suarez' head.

It appeared pretty healthy and not in need of 24/7 medical care, you should go for that before she finds one with no legs or which needs to be fed with an eye-dropper or something.

I did submit the February thread, I have no idea why it hasn't appeared. This one may "expire" for comments shortly, in which case I'll talk to Jim.

But letting it hang around Anfield seems excessively abusive.

That cat should be white enough to get by there.

Wokka wokka!

Gents, I think Saturday may be a Kinsale's day. It's been a while and there are a lot of good games. I probably won't go early for the Man U-LFC shenanigans, but there are some good 10 am games and, of course, Tottenham v Newcastle is the late game. Watch me try to literally drown myself in a pint of Guinness when Papiss Cisse scores a goal.

The jury has adjourned for the day. They will not be sequestered, but the judge has given them a lecture not to talk about the case or read media coverage.

'arry must be liking his chances, as there seems clearly to be doubt in at least one juror's mind.

Yeah, seems good for him, though they only deliberated for the afternoon. How much of intent is a factor here? It seems, as a matter of law, that Harry received payment from his employer that he didn't pay taxes on so I'm not sure what can be argued there. You think this may be a case where the jury thinks, "yeah he did it, but it's not so serious he should go to jail for it" so they let him walk because they think the prosecution is being draconian?

So after this weekend, my teams are 19th of 20 and 18th of 18 in goals for in their respective leagues. Maybe I should not pick teams to follow based on whims. (Although that Bundesliga chart would have led me to Kaiserslautern anyway if only I were a little less boring).

FWIW, in a 5 Live podcast there was some mention that the payment for Redknapp was actually a loan for an investment of some kind (and thus not a payment at all). There wasn't more to the comment than that, but that was the first mention of such an explanation for why the money was put into the account in the first place. I assume that loans aren't taxed under UK law, but whether or not there's a paper trail confirming some understanding of the loan's parameters would seem to be a crucial bit of evidence...

Saturday is a bad one for me (I'm going on vacation on Sunday so I have various things to do) but my intro in the other thread suggested we go on 2/26 for Spurs-Arsenal

Luis Suarez can go piss up a rope. I wanted to like him, but he's just a mean-spirited little prick.

#716--I confess I've disliked him ever since the Ghana handball in the World Cup.

It's still a mystery to me why FIFA doesn't change the rule about a blatant handball on the line to prevent a goal. The rule should be a sending off *and* a goal, if--in the judgment of the referee--the ball was clearly going to go over the line and be a goal if not for the illegal handball. If it is not clear, you award a penalty shot in addition to the red card. It's really not that hard a rule to make when you think about it.

Suarez doesn't seem totally mentally stable, and while I realize that description could be assigned to a number of footballers, it doesn't seem like the best thing to have one on your team.

The last thing football needs is more subjectivity in the refereeing. Plus awarding goals that never occurred strikes me as a step too far.

I come at it from the opposite angle. I have always felt that a red card for deliberate handball to prevent a goal is too harsh a penalty. I have often wondered whether it would be better only to give a red card if no goal results from the penalty. If a goal is scored, the transgressor gets a yellow instead. This reflects the fact that in reality an advantage is only gained if the penalty is missed.

No way, then we'll see volleyball defenses on corners. Send 'em off.

The penalty must be larger than what you stand to lose by playing by the rules.

Redknapp and Mandaric not guilty. I was right. Nothing sticks to 'Arry.

The Teflon Don of White Hart Lane has been cleared of all charges.
