We are doomed.

Ah, Kevin Prince Boateng, who only deigns to play for Ghana when they're already in the World Cup.
1903. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:20 PM (#4727846)
Urgh. KPB is dangerous.
1904. I am going to be Frank Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:20 PM (#4727847)
What's worse is that we have no better options on the bench right now.
   1905. zack Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:20 PM (#4727848)
Do we have any MFs with any technical ability who aren't completely worthless defensively? Zusi?
1906. President of the David Eckstein Fan Club Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:20 PM (#4727849)
We really really need to find a way to string more than two-three passes together. If Ghana get to launch an attack every other minute, eventually one of those shots or headers is going to go in.
1907. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:21 PM (#4727850)
Yeah, we can't bunker for a full thirty minutes. That will lead to at least one if not two goals.
1908. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:22 PM (#4727851)
Among the many problems here is that with the two injuries Klinsmann really can't make a tactical substitution. He needs to wait until the 75-80 minute point to make sure no one else goes down before he tries something like that.
   1909. tshipman Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:22 PM (#4727852)
Howard proving that at least we have one man who belongs at the WC.
   1910. simon bedford Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:23 PM (#4727853)
tying goal coming soon, horribly unimpressive effort by the states for the last 20 minutes
1911. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:24 PM (#4727855)

I could see a Diskerud for Dempsey sub at some point to try and regain control of the midfield, but yeah, it will have to wait.
1912. I am going to be Frank Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:25 PM (#4727856)
I am not a fan of her wine jones but I do respect him.
   1913. zack Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:25 PM (#4727857)
Haha. Her wine.
1914. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:26 PM (#4727859)
Bradley has been dreadful.
1915. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:26 PM (#4727860)
Her wine has been very good all day.
1916. I am going to be Frank Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:27 PM (#4727862)
I'm glad I could add some brevity.
   1917. Sunday silence Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:27 PM (#4727863)
Do they know Dempsey was also a US general?
1918. I am going to be Frank Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:29 PM (#4727864)
We are lucky that Ghana can't get their #### together.
1919. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:29 PM (#4727865)
Ghana have been strangely willing to settle for long shots. Howard is not a goalkeeper who spills those. The way the US has played Ghana should try and retain possession and get in close.'

That's nice from Johansson.
   1920. tshipman Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:29 PM (#4727866)
What is Bradley's passing percentage? 25%?
   1921. zack Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:29 PM (#4727867)
Who spiked the Gatorade?
1922. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:30 PM (#4727868)
Bradley has been ####### awful, is he striking to have his father come back as coach?!
1923. greenback calls it soccer Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:30 PM (#4727869)
Holy ####, a corner for the USA.
1924. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:30 PM (#4727870)
Bradley just abandoned the far post run there. He might have had a goal if he kept going.
1925. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:31 PM (#4727871)
At what point do we assume that Ricardo Clark is wearing a Michael Bradley mask?
1926. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:32 PM (#4727872)
Give Klinsmann this; Bedoya was probably his most controversial decision in the starting lineup and he's gotten that right. He's played very well.
1927. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:32 PM (#4727873)
At what point do we assume that Ricardo Clark is wearing a Michael Bradley mask?
It's bizarre. I can't remember the last bad game he had for the national team.
   1928. Sunday silence Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:33 PM (#4727874)
ghana looks like the clockwork orange in the last few..
   1929. zack Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:34 PM (#4727875)
For some reason, I feel like the 8-0-0-1-1 formation is not working.
1930. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:35 PM (#4727876)
You can see flashes of why they are so high on Brooks. He's a beast in the middle.
1931. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:36 PM (#4727878)
Bedoya and Jones have been defending like maniacs in the second half, but that makes it real hard to get out when the US gets the ball.
1932. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:37 PM (#4727879)
I like Zusi here. Our problem isn't on defense right now, it's having someone to give them a rest.
1933. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:37 PM (#4727880)
Beckerman is basically a third center back at this point isn't he?
1934. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:38 PM (#4727881)
I would have loved to get Dempsey off because he's been dead weight for the 2nd half, but Bedoya looks like he's done.
1935. greenback calls it soccer Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:38 PM (#4727882)
or some reason, I feel like the 8-0-0-1-1 formation is not working.

Maybe they should try an 8-0-2-0-0.

This has been an awful game.
1936. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:38 PM (#4727883)
Bedoya deserves huge credit for his work rate today. We've been so awful.
1937. I am going to be Frank Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:38 PM (#4727884)
I think I would prefer mix, but zusi will work his ass off. Btw- "zusi" is "sushi" on autocorrect
   1938. JJ1986 Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:39 PM (#4727885)
Another careless giveaway.
   1939. zack Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:39 PM (#4727886)
I agree that Bradley has not been good, but isn't the entire point of the diamond and having Jones and Beckerman on the field to allow him to play farther up? If Bradley is as often as not playing between the CBs, there is no space to play in to. Especially when Dempsey don't run.
1940. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:40 PM (#4727887)
Man we look bad on the break.
1941. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:40 PM (#4727888)
Bradley is so ####### worthless right now, he needed to provide an outlet for Johnson.
   1942. tshipman Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:41 PM (#4727889)
FIFA's stats cannot be right. US has never had 41% possession.
   1943. zack Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:41 PM (#4727890)
Shoot!
   1944. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:42 PM (#4727891)
Wait, Twellman is praising Michael Bradley? He's played like ####.
1945. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:43 PM (#4727892)
FIFA's stats cannot be right. US has never had 41% possession.

I said the same thing aloud.
1946. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:43 PM (#4727893)
####### AWFUL DEFENSE.
   1947. simon bedford Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:43 PM (#4727894)
and there as predicted it is
1948. I am going to be Frank Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:43 PM (#4727895)
It was coming
   1949. Sunday silence Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:43 PM (#4727896)
they deserved that one
1950. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:43 PM (#4727897)
Well, can't say that it hasn't been coming.
1951. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:43 PM (#4727898)
Can't play that long defensively. Eventually they are going to get one.
   1952. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:44 PM (#4727899)
That's just tired defense right there. Nice pass and finish too, of course.
   1953. DA Baracus Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:44 PM (#4727900)
Deserved goal. US is punchless.
1954. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:44 PM (#4727901)
For ##### sake, we're doomed.
1955. President of the David Eckstein Fan Club Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:44 PM (#4727902)
That's been coming for about, uh, 60 minutes. Can't say we deserved our lead.

Hopefully we can hang on for a point.
1956. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:45 PM (#4727904)
We look like ####### Andorra out there.
   1957. simon bedford Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:45 PM (#4727905)
now its getting awful, the usa has to play hard for the draw at this point
   1958. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:45 PM (#4727906)
Jeez, no one tracking Ayew at all right there. Fortunate nothing came of it.
   1959. tshipman Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:46 PM (#4727907)
Still possible to respond. US have looked more positive in the last ten minutes or so. Ghana is also tired.

Hopefully Bradley wakes up and stops playing like ####.
   1960. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:46 PM (#4727908)
Realistically the US can't play for the draw if they want to advance from this group. There's no ####### way they're getting anything from Germany.
1961. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:47 PM (#4727910)
YEYEYEYSYYSYSYSYSYSYSYSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1962. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:47 PM (#4727911)
ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
   1963. DA Baracus Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:47 PM (#4727912)
Holy crap.
   1964. simon bedford Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:47 PM (#4727914)
well that should settle it, very nice by brooks
   1965. Sunday silence Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:47 PM (#4727913)
better lucky than good..
   1966. SteveF Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:47 PM (#4727915)
Miracle. So undeserved. I feel bad for Ghana.
1967. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:47 PM (#4727916)
JOHN ####### BROOKS! KLINSY CAN DO NO WRONG!

SET PIECE BABY, BEST WAY TO SCORE WHEN YOU'VE DONE NOTHING ALL GAME
1969. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:48 PM (#4727918)
Wow that is beautiful. Great ball by Zusi and great work by Brooks.
1970. I am going to be Frank Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:48 PM (#4727919)
I ...
1971. greenback calls it soccer Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:48 PM (#4727920)
Do you believe in miracles?
   1972. Sunday silence Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:48 PM (#4727921)
that was a strong header
   1973. zack Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:48 PM (#4727922)
Was just about to say how about a matching goal in the last minute.
   1974. tshipman Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:48 PM (#4727923)
UNDESERVED SALVATION! Okay, now you park the bus.

Jurgey is magic!
1975. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:48 PM (#4727924)
Now stay in it. This ain't done yet.
1976. President of the David Eckstein Fan Club Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:49 PM (#4727925)
Great header by Brooks. terrible marking from Ghana.

Completely undeserved goal, but I don't ####### care.
   1977. simon bedford Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:49 PM (#4727926)
well that wasnt lucky they simply didnt mark that at al,,,,so it was almost a foregone conclusion that a decent cross would do it
1978. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:50 PM (#4727927)
That's a great block by Brooks.
1979. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:51 PM (#4727928)
Brooks got lucky that header hit him in the back. His arms were all over the place.
   1980. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:51 PM (#4727929)
Five minutes? For ####### what? Two goals, a few substitutions, no injuries?
1981. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:52 PM (#4727930)
Not quite sure where 5 minutes came from.
   1982. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:53 PM (#4727932)
I like Ian Darke but Taylor Twellman has been abysmal this game.
   1983. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:53 PM (#4727933)
Johansson keeps trying to do fancy stuff instead of just keeping the ball.
1984. greenback calls it soccer Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:53 PM (#4727934)
Taylor Twellman has been abysmal this game.

Yes.
   1985. zack Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:54 PM (#4727935)
Didn't Dempsey just run into him?
1986. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:54 PM (#4727936)
Yeah I was really hoping for McManaman.
1987. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:54 PM (#4727937)
The problem with Twellman (and Harkes before him) is they are so emotionally invested that they can't remain objective and insightful. I swear Twellman was ready to service Klinsmann.
1988. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:56 PM (#4727939)
what the #### is Bradley doing???
1989. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:56 PM (#4727940)
Just a few more ticks. Just a few more ticks. Just a few more ticks. Just a few more ticks. Just a few more ticks.
1990. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:56 PM (#4727941)
BOOM.
   1991. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:56 PM (#4727942)
Undeserved but who cares!
1992. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:56 PM (#4727943)
YEAH!!!
1993. Darkness and the howling fantods Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:57 PM (#4727944)
About as unpleasant as a win can be, but I'll take it!
   1994. DA Baracus Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:57 PM (#4727945)
I'll take a bad win.
1995. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:57 PM (#4727947)
A bad win is better than a good loss.
   1996. Sunday silence Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:57 PM (#4727948)
you're right simon it was a good set piece, but the outcome does seem a bit unfair to Ghana who played at least as well if not better than US
1997. President of the David Eckstein Fan Club Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:57 PM (#4727949)
We got the points, I got to drink and we finally beat Ghana!
1998. greenback calls it soccer Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:58 PM (#4727950)
A bad win is better than a good loss.

Yeah, but losing Altidore is a big deal.
   1999. tshipman Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:58 PM (#4727951)
Apologies to Ghana, who were the better squad with the exception of set pieces.
2000. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 16, 2014 at 07:59 PM (#4727952)
