Over/under on minutes played by Costa? I'd put the line at about 38.

I will take the under. His hamstring seemed to go last week on the first hard sprint, and he has to do that a lot on this team.

Interesting that Khedira is starting. I wonder how fit he is (and does this mean he'll be starting for Germany).
   702. frannyzoo Posted: May 24, 2014 at 02:28 PM (#4712649)
Khedira is a question; not resetting the yellow cards in the CL Semis always seems to cause this sort of thing. Perhaps Modric will play more box-to-box to help him out, somewhat like the team was playing before things gelled under Ancelotti.
   703. puck Posted: May 24, 2014 at 02:40 PM (#4712655)
I guess Dempsey has to make all the commercials now.

Because everything revolves around Spurs...there is a decent minority of the fan base that is desperate for Atleti to win as they think that means Ancelotti will get axed and come to the Lane. Personally, I'm on the Pochettino bandwagon and don't think Ancelotti is realistic at all. I just want Atleti to win because that is what's right and holy, but if Real win then I want Bale or Modric to score the winner.

At least the kids don't have to wear McDonald's jerseys.

Do you get Fox Deportes?

not in HD. I would imagine the SAP button would work.

I was just googling the Heineken ad as I've seen it so many damn times. The drummer appears to be from a band called "Reef."

Awful, though?

Yeah, plenty awful enough.

THANK GOD IT'S STARTED!

It always amazes me that CL clubs can have two leftbacks like Coentrao and Marcelo while in MLS, if you have a guy who can run without falling over, you have an all-star candidate.

Good for him! Not sure what they've up to for the past decade+, but "Place Your Hands" was not the worst song to get overplayed on UK radio in the late 90s.

It would help if the league valued defenders.

Or wide attacking players. The cap's not high enough to care about fullbacks.

Ronaldo won't be so pretty after this game...

Why put him on at the beginning? I mean Simeone might be on the way to be one of the greats, but that seems like a really bad gamble.

That too. It makes sense, if you only spend serious money on a handful of spots, it has to be on players who see the ball a lot.
   725. The John Wetland Memorial Death (CoB) Posted: May 24, 2014 at 03:02 PM (#4712679)
No, it's actually NOT a huge story, Gus. If he could play a FULL 90, THAT would be a HUGE story.

Gah.
   726. puck Posted: May 24, 2014 at 03:02 PM (#4712680)
I hope it gets better with the next CBA.

Edit: I meant to reply to #724, but I hope the next CBA makes Gus better, too.

What is Ramos getting involved in that for. My god is he a dummy.
   728. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 24, 2014 at 03:13 PM (#4712691)
Oh that's a quick yellow for Ramos. He gave Garcia a little nudge but the ref needs to let that go.
   729. DA Baracus Posted: May 24, 2014 at 03:14 PM (#4712692)
I'm going to miss the last 15 minutes of this game, so of course that's when the game will be decided.

Raising your kid left-handed (for pitching) or left-footed (for soccer) seems like a good way to get your kid extra looks growing up.

edit: obviously its much harder, but Rafael Nadal's uncle made him play tennis left-handed when he was a natural right-hander.

I think he deserves it for running all the way upfield in an attempt to escalate that scrum.

He ran up between the ref and the player and bumped him while the ref was still addressing him. Almost gave the ref no choice but to give him a card. Really stupid.

Agreed. His lack of understanding of the game came through on his over the top reaction to the Garcia foul, not realizing that it was a very smart play.

And yeah you guys are right about the Ramos call. I still don't think it should have been given but it was a dumb play to put himself in that position.

Right before that run by Bale I was about to say that Atletico have to be delighted with the first 30 minutes. This is playing out about as well as they could have hoped. I still think that the longer this stays tied the more it shifts Atletico's direction.

This is going to be like the 2010 World Cup Final if this scores stands into the second half. Atletico are going to be fouling all over the place.

Not a lot of attacking options on the bench for Real. I guess you take off Khedira and bring on Isco at half time?

I don't think you have to get crazy here if you are Real. They should feel like they can score so I don't think you get too nuts yet. If you get to about an hour then you start making your move. I think fresh legs are probably going to be as important as true attacking talent.

They should trust the attacking talent they have on the pitch, Ronaldo and Bale have been known to create the occasional goal.

I know Fox doesn't have control over the feed, but why show the ball off of Godin five times when it clearly went over the line and only show the cross only twice? There were a lot of bodies in the box and its hard to see if it was offsides or not. Real look like Arsenal with their set piece defending.
   756. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 24, 2014 at 03:31 PM (#4712726)
Atletico are doing a great job of slowing down the Real counterattack. Real have not been able to really get a free run at any time.

Which cross, you mean when Juanfran heads it back into the box? Modric kept a whole slew of guys on, including Godin, since he had been guarding the post.

That Bale miss (from the f****** Tiago blunder, screw him, I never trusted him since Juve...okay I'll settle down now) looks damn big. Isco for Khedira at half, most likely, and I doubt any of the three forwards for Atletico will be there at the end of the 90/120.

Good question, I'd love to see the scenario where he forces them to choose between him and Cech ... though I suppose that would end up with the Sith selling Cech ... and having even more money to spend on other needs.

Nice spell here for Atleti. Keeping possession, winning a few corners and just generally holding the game nicely. They are really composed.

I assume the question was British players to play in a CL final on a foreign club?

Lambert did indeed win with Dortmund in 97. Pretty sure Linekar is a miss though. Macca for sure. Waddle and Archibald would be my other guesses. Not sure about the last one.

I agree with WYnalda that a red card is in the offing. For Atleti it's not the worst thing in the world this late in the game. Just stick nine behind the ball and play without anyone up top. Not a huge difference. Can also see Ramos getting a dumb one.
