Padres hire Phil Plantier as hitting coach

Asked by a reporter to name the top home run hitting team of the 2010s, I offered the Padres.  Granting that it was a capricious choice, it has as good a chance of being right as anybody else I can think of.

According to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Padres have hired Phil Plantier as hitting coach.

Plantier, 42, had been serving as manager at the Padres’ single [sic] affiliate in Lake Elsinore, California.

He was a big league outfielder from 1990-1997, batting .243/.332/.439 with 91 home runs in 610 games, 298 of which he played with San Diego.

Good god. All he could do was swing for the fences...which is exactly what the Padres *don't* need.

Maybe he learned from his shortcomings. As they say, those who can't do...

Oh yes. Soon my rookie cards will be worth something.

Soon all the Padres hitters will be in Plantier's "sitting on the shiiter" stance.
