Palm Beach Post: Girardi rips into team for blunders

“That’s embarrassing,’’ said the Marlins manager after a sloppy 9-8 loss to the Reds on Wednesday. “We can’t keep making mistakes. Seventeen days in, we can’t keep making the same mistakes. They’ve worked their butts off and you can’t throw it away because you want to try and do too much.’‘
...
“This was our first chance that we had to win a series and we should have won the series,’’ Girardi said. “And the way you make the playoffs is by winning series. You don’t give series away.’‘

Girardi, who closed the clubhouse for a meeting after the game, would not single out any players.

That’s pretty mild as team-ripping goes.  Maybe a 0.5 on the Larry Bowa/Billy Martin/INSERT NAME HERE scale.

when your team is as pitiful as the Marlins you can't make mistakes, mental or physical. But he can't be serious about the playoff comment.

Joe, you do realize that you were the one that took a job with an organization that was cutting payroll to the bone, and that you'd get stuck with players that should still be in the minors, right? It's not a surprise that minor leaguers play like minor leaguers.

I bet he is. He wants these kids to have a mentality that no matter what the expectations are, they can win. So they'll play hard all the time.

It's more likely to backfire and make them think that because they tried and failed, they should never try.

Is Hanley a True Marlin yet?

You become a True Marlin by getting traded away because you make too much, so no...

I must concede, I thought in March that the Marlins were on their way to a 100-110 loss season. But having seen them play a couple of times and followed their box scores, this ballclub is not all that bad. Barring a bunch of injuries, they could win 70-80 games (as opposed to 50-60). Today's loss was really exceptional. But even good, veteran teams now and then suffer a horrible loss like the Fish had today.

Are you being serious?

When I was a kid, my mom was super obsessive about cleaning type of chores. If it wasn't perfect and up to her standards (which never seemed to stay the same), I get in trouble. If I didn't do the chores, I'd get in trouble. I figured if I was going to get in trouble either way, I'd save myself the trouble of working and not do the chores.

I'm still not sure how this theory relates to a baseball team, though. Guys try hard and fail all the time. It's part of the nature of the game.

Once, just once, I'd like to see an article about the Fish where the headline doesn't have Girardi acting like a jerk. "Girardi: Hugs and Puppies All Around", something like that.

Girardi's outbusts are designed to keep him in Steinbrenner's eye to become Yankee manager when Torre's era ends. But there is stiff competition with Piniella, Mazzilli, Bowa, Mattingly and a cast of thousands available.

Please, George, give Mazilli another chance!

He's earned it.

I like the Marlins, and really, this team doesnt lack for talent.
if they remove stiffs like herges and borowski from the pen, they might even be decent!
