The Marlins already face long odds to make the playoffs. Now, they’ll have to make that final surge with their star player suffering from a sore shoulder.
Hanley Ramirez hit two home runs Wednesday night in Florida’s 14-2 victory against the Houston Astros, as the Marlins won their seventh straight to match a season high. But he left the game in the fifth inning with a left shoulder strain after diving for a grounder.
Ramirez, who had arthoscopic surgery on the same shoulder in October, said he hopes to return today or Friday at the latest. “Hopefully not even one game,” Ramirez said when asked if he might miss any action.

With 11 games to go, the Marlins still trail the first-place Phillies in the NL East by 5 1/2 games and trail the wild-card leading Mets by five games. Florida’s magic number for elimination in the division is six - any combination of Marlins losses and Phillies wins.
