Palm Beach Post: Marlins beat Astros for eighth straight win

The red-hot Marlins won their eighth straight game Thursday night, completing a sweep of the Astros with an 8-1 victory without injured All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez.

Top prospect Cameron Maybin had four hits in his first Marlins start, showing off his speed by scoring twice from first base. Rookie catcher John Baker had four RBI and starting pitcher Scott Olsen won his second straight start with seven strong innings.

But for any shot at the playoffs, the Marlins might have win all of their remaining 10 games, starting tonight against the first-place Phillies. A win tonight would match Florida’s franchise-high win streak of nine, last done in 2006.

I just noticed that the 3rd place teams in the NL East and Central have better records than the NL West leader.

On another note, the phrase "Ed Wade, Genius", has disappeared from headlines all over.

The Astros have 16 hits in their last 5 games.

If Wade were smarter, they would've had more hits this week.

The Astros lack of success is clearly a result of the bullpen not being composed of veteran players.
