Paul Lebowitz: I grow tired of battering you——but I’ll continue if you insist

Much like most of the partisan discussions disguised as analysis, in Matthew Carruth’s blog discussing the Towers firing, he made the following statement regarding DePodesta:

Who is going to step into Towers role? Obviously the first speculation is going to point at Assistant GM Paul DePodesta, who certainly deserves another shot after being railroaded out of Los Angeles.

Railroaded
out
of
Los Angeles?
Paul DePodesta was what?
He was railroaded out of Los Angeles?

And precisely how was he “railroaded” out of Los Angeles? Railroaded by whom? By the owner, who let him do whatever he wanted whether it made sense or not? Railroaded by the fans who greeted him as a conquering hero and omnipotent genius after the absurdity that is Moneyball portrayed him as a combination of Branch Rickey and Albert Einstein?

These are the people who have the audacity to ridicule me because I expose them for the fools that they are.

For the last time, here are the facts of Paul DePodesta’s tenure as Dodgers GM.

HE…WRECKED…THE…TEAM!!!!!

Thanks to William Orton.

HE WRECKED THE TEAM!!! INTO A PLAYOFF SPOT! AND THEY MADE THE PLAYOFFS AGAIN THE YEAR AFTER HE WAS FIRED!

(Hey moron, you read the Mitchell Report yet?)

Facile analysis, delivered in a shouty style.

Snore.

Vlad's probably being nice.

Perhaps we should be nice. For every two people with an IQ of 120, there has to be a Paul Lebowitz to "balance the scales." Without complete idiots, how could the above-average remain so?

And in case you didn't follow the link, it took him only five words to get to his pet phrase, "stat zombie."

If nothing else, Lebowitz is not lacking for self confidence.

Lay off, guys, it's not a fair fight. BTF has an excellent reputation and its alumni frequently go to work for major league teams, mass media, or publishing. Paul Lebowitz is just some guy nobody's heard of, nobody cares about, who probably gets 50 hits a day from his ring of friends, and who probably had to work 500 hours at Arby's to pay the vanity press to publish his book that nobody would read.

Wait I can graduate from here? Oh, but I'd have to go to work. Nevermind, I'm gonna go see if mom's got any corn chips up in the kitchen before Repoz puts the next thread up.

For some reason all I can think of is "Batter my heart, three-personed God."

That is one of the worst website I have seen since the turn of the century.

It's like that episode of the Office where Creed asks Ryan to set up a website for him so Ryan opens up a new Word document and tells him it's online, so as to protect everyone from Creed's thoughts.
   9. Darren Posted: October 04, 2009 at 03:52 PM (#3339852)
Ryan's character took a very odd turn. He went from a sane young guy in an insane world to a complete villain. Even after his fall from grace, he's still basically remained a jerk. You think he'd sort of regain some of that sanity that showed early on.

Yeah, if he really knew anything, he'd put his book out via Lulu and Createspace, and at least not have to cough up $500 for setup fees in the process.

Who is this again?

Doubtful. Does anybody do any battering at Arby's (I've been to one maybe twice this decade)? Wouldn't that be more of a ... I dunno ... KFC thing?

for stat zombie alone, this guy needs to be shown a little respect, I would say the same amount of respect you would give Paris Hilton.

I didn't want to click the link, so I'll have to ask, is he really this stupid?
   14. Gonfalon Bubble Posted: October 04, 2009 at 08:01 PM (#3340084)
Somehow, it never goes well for people who make preemptive pronouncements about how dominant and airtight their arguments are.

just give this Lebowitz guy Ted William's frozen head and everyone'll be happy.....
   17. asinwreck Posted: October 04, 2009 at 09:34 PM (#3340132)
Ryan's arc in NYC was an unfortunate casualty of the writers' strike. We got a hint of his coked-up arrogance, but I suspect there was supposed to be some truly horrid behavior before he got arrested. That would have been a great time to write the character out of the show, but for whatever reason the producers want to keep B.J. Novak on as a cast member as well as producer.

What I really like is how he bills himself ("The Prince of New York") and his site ("Ruthless Baseball Analysis From The Best Writer You've Never Heard Of"). Honestly, I couldn't stop myself from laughing.

So, Liebowitz is kinda slutty?

Ryan has kind of been Flanderized into a jerk, although I think the idea is that he turned into a jerk and his fall of grace hasn't helped any.
   21. Benji Gil Gamesh is not being paid to be that guy Posted: October 04, 2009 at 11:45 PM (#3340194)
What's sad is that he isn't appreciably worse than some mainstream columnists, once you account for context (i.e. editors).

Oh, and of course: BRAAAAINS!!!!

And somehow Ryan Howard still managed to win an MVP and World Series with the Phillies.

Are you kidding? He laps this stuff up. I'm sure a BTF link bumps his readership up well beyond its normal audience of Family members, including black sheep son Repoz. As I figured, it didn't take him long to respond to this thread with his typically understated confidence about his ultimate world conquest.

He has humiliated us zombie ####### yet again.
