Pavano likely facing Tommy John surgery

First reporting on it via Nick Cafardo. Looks like things have gone from bad to worse for Pavano.

This absolutely angers me. Now the Yankees will collect insurance money on his contact.

There's nothing I hate more than crappy Yankee pitchers who cannot stay healthy.

That's not fair, Pavano isn't a word, he's an injured baseball player.

I just hope they don't sign Clememns. The Yankees might actually miss the playoffs if they don't, god forbid.

Or as Francesspool said today (he said, paraphaseouting)..."If he went to see Andrews it is probably for Tommy John surgery...AND IT BETTER BE!"

Good point - TJ surgery is probably the only way out for Pavano where he doesn't get TOTALLY slammed on the way out.

Well, Kevin, it could be that he also might think (or hope) that getting TJ surgery might finally get him back on track, and then all he'd have to worry about would be Dial slamming him for "performance enhancing."

I'm not so sure that even TJS will do anything to change people's perceptions of Pavano at this point. Not to defend the guy or anything, but he had elbow surgery a year ago, and then tried to cover up the car accident so he wouldn't miss a rehab start. Yet the popular narrative is still that he missed the whole year with a bruised butt.

First, I thought the car accident was covering up an actual extra injury, like bruised ribs or something. Second, once he leaves New York, and I don't think he'll be there next year if he misses a large amount of time this year, I think pitching is so scarce, that someone would give him a job, if he's ever willing to pitch again, or can be OK.

Just get it over with and trade him to the Phillies.

Broken actually. Two of 'em. Point is that he pitch a rehab start with that injury, and then got slammed when he later admitted that he'd had the wreck. It was painted in the press as just another example of him being gutless and not wanting the ball, despite the fact that he took them ball with a couple of busted ribs. I'm sure that the tabloids will have no trouble spinning this TJ surgery as just another ploy to avoid having to pitch. Bone chips? Torn ligaments? Nah, the only thing really wrong with Pavano is that he can't handle New York pressure.

Yeah, sissy slap notwithstanding, at least ARod goes out there and chokes like a man.

Clemens will do nothing this year, for whichever team he pitches.

Does pull a hamstring count? of course this only matters if he joins the yankees. maybe then they'd give that poor "steriod distributing" guy his job back
