Pedroia gets good news on latest knee injury

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia said he received good news about the irritation in his left knee that led to his return to the 10-day injured list.

The 35-year-old was activated April 9 after starting the season on the injured list with inflammation in the knee but left Wednesday night’s game against the New York Yankees in the second inning. He was examined Thursday, when Boston put him back on the IL.

“More kind of scared me than anything,” Pedroia said before Friday’s game at Tampa Bay. “I was nervous, obviously, to feel that. We’re just going to let it calm down for a few days and then it should be all right. I hadn’t had any issues up until this point.”

Mind you, if the story goes as it has so far, that means he’ll be playing on a peg leg sometime in 2020….

This is such a sad story. It seems like they've been really careful with him and it's just not working out. I was hopeful, but now, I guess I'm sort of losing that hope.

What a wonderfully fun player he's been to watch over the years.

It's never a good sign when the "good news" is that your knee injury is not directly related to the one of the other knee injuries you've been dealing with...

I love Pedroia, and as a 40-something with joint problems I wish he'd give it up. I don't want to watch him play because I'm going to be nervous every time he runs the bases or there's a play around second that something bad is going to happen and he won't be able to walk when he's 60.
