Pedroia: ‘I’m a freak healer. I heal great’

He’s no lizardman.

“My other injury is healed. It’s 100 percent healed, and I could tell because I was hitting balls in the air to the pull-side. That’s a big thing because it means my bat speed is fine,” he said. “That’s the part that’s frustrating. I was about to get on a huge run the rest of the way, like I always do, and this happens. But there is still a lot of games left, I’ll heal this thing up, get out there and it will make a huge difference.

“I’m a lizard. I heal while I play. I’m a freak healer. I heal great.”

Nice to know. Anyone got any freaks who need healing?

Bah, there's no known freak condition that can't be treated with a medical marijuana card.

Now that will help you let your freak flag fly, man!

Short, ugly facial hair, attitude, now he heals like a freak ... has anyone checked him for a metal skeleton?

As dumb as it sounds, this makes me feel a little better about the Red Sox chances this year.

It makes me feel worse, because he's going to force himself into the lineup while still injured, as he did the first go round with the thumb, and proceed to put up horrible production at the plate for weeks and weeks before he "freak heals."

I don't think it's a coincidence that Pedroia hit 210/280/300 in the period between his first thumb injury and this entirely unrelated thumb injury.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pedroia really is a freak healer, but that he also has utterly unrealistic expectations of what his body can do. So if they get him to sit for two weeks, he very well might heal up better and faster than most folks would. He just can't do it in three days.

I fully expect Robert Pollard to write a song called "Freak Healer."

That title sounds too sensible. It needs a non sequitur in there to be properly GbV-ish, maybe "Lizard Freak Healer" or "Freak Healer Checked Swing".

EDIT: I liked that first one :-)

I need to focus on your suggestions, because as it is I'm unfortunately hearing "Freak Healer" as following the tune of "Dream Weaver."

I’m a lizard.

Then who is Spider-Man?

I hear that Pedroia's fielding calls from Sabean inquiring about rates.

"Freak healer"? What gooblegobbledygook. I don't accept it, I don't accept it.

Speaking of Freaks, I watched a little of Freaks and Geeks the other day. The show holds up pretty well and wow, what a cast they had. James Franco, in particular, is great.

The parents, unfortunately, were the weakest part of the show.

I guess we've identified the counterpart to Carl Crawford's Mr. Glass.

I read DC's recent Earth One's Batman GN, where its yet another retelling of Batman's origin. Nothing really new, and actually quite boring to read.

Nothing I've heard about any of those Earth One books makes me in any way interested. Admittedly, I'm old & jaded, but still.

Geoff Johns is a hack. He's to comic book writers what a high priced closer is to a baseball team. Highly overrated and can only perform under highly formulaic conditions. A total waste of resources, for his employer and the customer.
