Who were the game’s most popular backup catchers ten years ago? That’s where I’d look!

Adam Melhuse as 2018 or '19 Manager of the Year, confirmed.

(Apparently Mr. Melhuse is currently managing the single-A Burlington Bees, in the Angels' system.)

I'd love the Mets to get Cora.

I'd love to hear what Mike Schmidt has to say about the idea of Juan Samuel managing the Phillies.

I like the idea of the guy who lent his name to the Juan Samuel Triple Crown, for leading the league in strikeouts, errors, and caught stealing, managing a team. This is a thing I want to see.

Well I know the Red Sox are talking to him and I'd be happy with him there. Not sure what DD has in mind but if they go Ausmus it'll be a tire fire.

Man, Dave Martinez has really fallen. Is there a domestic violence or DUI I've forgotten? I can understand that he's Ryker to Maddon's Picard and may have missed his real chance at advancement but compared with Geren, Gonzalez and Ventura?

And c'mon now, Metheny, Scioscia and Ausmus were primarily starting catchers, not backups. Part of the problem here is that Ausmus and Matheny pretty much soaked up all of the NL GG until Yadier ... and IRod won all the ones in the AL. So until Mauer retires, your choice for multi-GG catcher is limited to Charles Johnson and Bengie Molina (imagine how slow his walks to the mound will be!) Tom Pagnozzi, there ya go!

Jody Davis won a GG?! I'll be damned. He did throw out 48% of runners in 1986. His 15 PBs are second among NL GG winners (Bench 18 in 1968).

Benito Santiago also won multiple Gold Gloves.

I think the worst thing he did was sleep with Cindy Sandberg.

Supposedly, Kevin Long and Sandy Alomar, Jr. are also in the Metsmix.

Never heard of the Juan Samuel TC, and Samuel never led the league in E or CS.

Phillies players love Samuel. Of course, that's the kiss of death for a first-time manager. My money's on Callaway.

That's true, though it wasn't for lack of trying on Samuel's part. :)

Bill James coined the phrase while discussing George Grantham in the New Historical Baseball Abstract.

#8 ... sure, but that was back in the dark ages, before sillyball even. Actually, he played much more recently than I realized (2005), I discarded him because I thought his career had ended long enough ago that if he was gonna get a shot, he'd have gotten it by now. And for the record, I have no idea if Santiago, Johnson, Bengie or Pagnozzi are in baseball organizations anywhere.

That's probably worse than a DWI for your clubhouse reputation.

Red Sox apparently interviewing Ausmus. ####### kill me now.

If that's a dealbreaker, MLB might not have any Latin managers for the next 20 years. That would be a bad look.

I'll assume Dombrowski is just doing Ausmus a solid by interviewing him for PR purposes until I hear otherwise.

I am trying to figure out if there is any way to parse this that isn't either incredibly racist or really misogynistic. Maybe I am misreading what you are trying to say.

Seriously? It was a joke about Sandberg's wife having a known "thing" for sleeping with his Latin teammates (Martinez, Palmeiro, weren't there some others?), also referencing MLB's stated desire to have Latin managers, and that it would look bad if there were none. Just a joke. Relax.
