Coaches tell the story of a game in which the Dodgers had a big lead in the top of the eighth inning when one younger, enthusiastic teammate stole second base, which ticked off the opposition. When Utley got to the plate in the ninth, he told the opposing catcher to have the pitcher drill him. Then his teammate would understand there are consequences for showing up the opposition.

I call total BS on that one.

"I won't say his name - let's just call him Pasiel Yuig."

It is possible Utley said it, but it doesn't look like the opposing team obliged, unless this was in an exhibition game. Here are all of Utley's HBPs in 2015-2016, none of them came in a blowout or in the top of the ninth inning.

You know, the "him" in that excerpt is a little vague. I assumed it meant that the young player got hit. Dave obviously assumed it meant Utley got hit. Dave's interpretation is probably correct; the story makes more sense that way. The way I originally interpreted it, it just makes Utley look like a dick.

Well, in retrospect, it makes more sense your way, but as you said in that case it's not that great a story. (Also not necessarily certain that the guy who stole would get another at-bat in the 9th.)

Look, when Gammons writes sans editor, anything and everything's possible.

Utley being a dick is entirely within the realm of possibility.
