Phillie Phanatic sued for tossing woman in hotel pool

Peirce said she suffered shock, a herniated disc and other “severe and permanent injuries to her head, neck, back, body, arms and legs, bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and tissues.”
[...]
Exactly who was inside the green mascot suit remains a mystery with the court documents showing that Peirce is suing Tom Burgoyne and Matt Mehler, the two men who share mascot duties, as well as “any currently unknown or unnamed individual to play the role of the Phillie Phanatic.”

Sink or swim, babe, just like Freddy Galvis.

In my mind I like to think that the two mascot-men being sued look just a little bit like Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor.

...and then he sprayed her with Silly String.

From the lawsuit: the Phanatic must be replaced immediately by Green Man as the Phillie mascot.

As part of the lawsuit, the Phanatic must be replaced immediately by Green Man as the Phillie mascot.

I always thought he was called the Phillie Phrenetic.

Is that even legal?

McCoy, you'll be pleased to hear that she just included Alfonso Soriano in her lawsuit. Just because.

I had unprotected sex with the San Diego Chicken in 1980 and came down with salmonella, but you didn't see me bothering the courts about it.

"Severe and permanent injuries to her... tissues"? Let's hope she doesn't catch a cold.

I've always thought there was probably some crazy #### going on behind the scenes at The Baseball Bunch. Suspicions confirmed.

I just want to see the Phillie Phanatic in court. No jury would convict him.

I love that "body" is included in the list of individual injured body parts.

Well, discovery will show who the guilty Phanatic is, and the other individuals (though not the team and the hotel of course) will be dropped from the lawsuit.

What was that pool filled with, cement? I never knew that pool water could cause so many injuries at one time.

Mascots should always ask themselves "what would Youppi do?"

The Phanatic should diplomatic immunity.

“[S]evere and permanent injuries to her head, neck, back, body, arms and legs, bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and tissues.”

Maybe the hotel keeps piranha in the pool.

“severe and permanent injuries to her head, neck, back, body, arms and legs, bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and tissues.”

Charlie Babbit bent and pulled and stretched my neck.

Thank you, I'd really hate to think that a "Stir Crazy" reference would go unnoticed on a board sufficiently sophisticated to throw out "Murder By Death" references.

On the subject of Gene Wilder, check out these letters from Wilder to the director of "Willy Wonka", which really drive home the degree to which Gene's own unique vision helped make his performances so iconic.

From the link, figuring out clothes for Willy Wonka: "To match the shoes with the jacket is fey. To match the shoes with the hat is taste."

Say what you will but Mr Met would never have done this.

If Nomar Garciaparra had been there, he would quickly have shoved a pool lounger underneath the woman to break her fall and prevent harm.

If Nomar Garciaparra had been there, he would quickly have shoved a pool lounger underneath the woman to break her fall and prevent harm.

And would have gotten sued too.

Seriously, this is why we can't have nice things any more.

Also from the site linked in #20, dear god I hope this is a real letter.

No Green Man references?

The fact that he didn't shine a laser in her eyes after maiming her demonstrates at least some level of self-control.
