Phillies’ Carlos Ruiz suspended 25 games for amphetamine use

Carlos Ruiz has been suspended 25 games for amphetamine use, according to multiple reports.

Ruiz had a career year last season, batting .325 while knocking in 68 runs to go along with 16 home runs.

The Phillies have yet to confirm the news and no statement from Ruiz has been released, but the news does come from Major League Baseball.

According to Wikipedia, amphetamines- also known as adderall- produce “increased wakefulness and focus in association with decreased fatigue and appetite.”

The suspension means Ruiz will not be eligible to play until the Phillies game against the New York Mets on April 28th.

According to Wikipedia, Carlos Ruiz is a “slow-footed baseball-playing life-form.”

I can't keep up with these suspension rules. I thought the first positive test was 50 games.

That's for PEDs. This is for greenies.

50 games is for a first performance enhancing substance violation.

This apparently is a second stimulant violation.

I can't think of a player who would disappoint more fans than Chooch with an announcement of this kind. So this means he was already caught once. So is he dumb or so insistent for putting this additive in his gas tank that he tried a second failed masking agent?

Is this serious? What is nj.com? Open source blog posting for 1.5-page high school freshman research papers?

I love Chooch but getting caught a second time is beyond stupid, especially for adderall. ADD diagnoses can't be that hard to get. Four weeks of Eric Kratz behind the plate was not what Phils fans had in mind for a bounce-back year. Ugh.

No, a real freshman would know what adderall is.

It is also a big blow to the fan base who enjoyed watching Ruiz have such a great season.

Unless this report proves to not be true, or Ruiz wins a suspension, that is now tainted.

Uhh...what?

It's very simple, if Ruiz wins a suspension, it means he gets unsuspended and he gets to choose another player to be suspended.

Every single player who put on a uniform between 1950 and 2008 used amphetamines. Probably before that.

Looks like he picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines.

Say it ain't so, Chooch.

You wouldn't think so. I have ADD (legitimately), and I pretty much just had to tell my doctor that I had it, and that I have enormous difficulty functioning without the meds, and that was it.

When I recently switched doctors, the new one didn't wait to see my old records; I told her what meds I was on and the dosage, and she wrote me a new scrip.

Both old and new doctors did insist on running blood work after a few months to make sure I wasn't having liver or other problems, but once that was done, I just have to show up every month for a new scrip. (Schedule II controlled substances can't be refilled and can't be called in; you need a physical prescription each time. And you can't get 90-day mail-order scrips anymore. Sigh.)

As we've discussed before..personally..adderall doesn't do much for me. I just took my ritalin and took an hour nap. NOW ephedrine. That was the bomb-diggity back in the day.
