Phillies cut ties with pitching coach Rich Dubee

“Rich was a big part of a wonderful era here and in his nine years he served our organization very well,” general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement. “We believe it is time for change as we move forward. We thank Rich for his professionalism and contribution to the Phillies.”

Dubee is rolling…

Never pulled any punches. Always true to the objective pipe.

I hope that the better Philly blogs look into this in detail, but I do wonder if the Phils should or shouldn't go after a restricted FA (or however you call them), since their 1st round pick is protected.

Granted, we don't KNOW who has been offered arbitration at this point, so we are not in position to define this, but I will eagerly read discussions on this item when it comes up.

A tough pitching coach to judge. The superstars all did well under his watch, except for Halladay's last two years, which I do not think you can blame Dubee for. He also managed some good years out of folks like Kendrick, Myers, Moyer, Blanton, and Happ.

On the other hand, after Madson and Bastardo, there were not many success stories in the pen from the minors, and I can't think of any major reclamation projects he can take credit for in the majors (Romero was the biggest turnaround, but that was on PEDs...).

I can imagine a truly excellent pitching coach getting more out of the youngsters, but the general success of Lee/Halladay/Hamels/Oswalt and the 07/08 starting staffs was pretty impressive.

I wonder how long until Ruben runs out of scapegoats.

I don't know much about Dubee as a coach, but his son squeezed just about every possible ounce of performance out of his natural talent.
