Man they're really desperate for a centerfielder.

My exact thought process.

You misspelled "Soriano."

Can't think of a Young for whom this would be good news. Delmon ... Michael ... Chris would mean we sent eight top prospects to Oakland ... I guess Delwyn would be better than Michael Martinez.
   7. PreservedFish Posted: December 03, 2012 at 11:51 PM (#4316064)
The other Chris Young is a reasonable 5th starter.

Please let this happen.

Mighty Joe Young?
   13. TomH Posted: December 04, 2012 at 08:20 AM (#4316190)
they are interested in making the overall team Young.

Either that, or they are pushing the psychological stuff (Jung).
   14. BDC Posted: December 04, 2012 at 10:02 AM (#4316243)
They are looking for a third base

They're running $70-75, but you have to buy the set of three.

Pinups of Loretta Young? Nah, this team isn't THAT old.

"Could I try this career over?" Kevin Young.

Baseball Prospectus 1996:

If you want to make the case that minor league statistics do a lousy job of predicting major league performance, you really don't have anything but anecdotal data to fall back on. By and large, it's simply not true. But man, would this guy be a good example to use. A lot of people, myself included, projected this guy to be an absolute monster. Could I have been more wrong? I guess it's possible. I still think he's really going to break out and be something special. I like him even more than the Vladimir projection. He will hit .300 with a few homers one of these years. I can understand Pittsburgh running out of patience, though.

Another candidate for a do-over is Jeremy Giambi. And almost was David Ortiz, but Theo saved him from his organization.

On the other hand, Erubiel Durazo was freed by Beane and had some success before flaming out (I imagine due to injury). Patrick Lennon and Dwayne Hosey were not freed.

Cal Pickering. Kila Ka'aihue. Roberto Petagine. Mark Quinn.

What translations exactly did they have for Kevin Young, I wonder?

I have his as:

1990 (A-) 236/293/354
1991 (A+) 248/304/381
1991 (AA) 257/303/388
1992 (AAA) 261/340/368
1993 (MLB) 236/300/343
1994 (AAA) 235/282/383
1995 (AAA) 285/331/545 (165 zMLE AB)
1996 (AAA) 271/319/479 (188 zMLE AB)

Overall in majors, he hit 258/324/438. Doesn't strike me as all that much of a miss for KY Jelly Roll, as we called him on usenet.

Part of "saving" David Ortiz was giving him PT that was originally earmarked for the recently-freed Jeremy Giambi.

So, that happened.

So was Delmon a FA? Does that mean his contract can be anything or is he going to get 9 mill based on last years arb contract? Because 'anything' for Delmon F. Young is already insane enough.

ahh. Nvm. $750,000.

Phillies must have wanted to get Younger this offseason.

Cross-posted from Primer Dugout:
Remember when the Phils had multi-dimensional OFs? Victorino and Werth, before that Abreu. Heck even Pat Burrell gave you Power and Patience if nothing else. Now we have half to one dimensional OFs. Let's see:
Revere can field and steal bases;
Brown can take pitches;
Young can kind of hit for power;
AAAAberry can field OK and hit LHP for power;
Laynce Nix can hit some as a LH platoon corner OF (FWIW, his lifetime pinchhitting is awful).
Darin Ruf, well, he can Iron Pig it up. No sense rolling the dice when you can play Delmon Young in his stead.

Just imagine how bad Domonic Brown is if he's a less plausible starter than both Ben Revere and Delmon Young.

I'm assuming the plan is for Young in LF, spelled by Nix, Revere in CF and Brown with a touch of Mayberry in RF.

Shame Jeff Francoeur isn't available.
