Philly.com: LeMar, Phillies Part Ways

Talk on Chicago sports radio is that LeMar might end up as the new Cub GM, as recent moves by Chicago owner Tom Ricketts make it harder to get anyone really high profile. (Plus people don’t think much of Ricketts in general).

Last week, it was Ned Colletti. Two weeks ago, it was Billy Beane. Before that, it was a half-dozen other folks. Does anyone have even a remote #### clue what Ricketts is thinking?

A fine idea, I think. It is too evident to be doubted that Chuck LaMar deserves a second turn at the major-league switch.

Glad i'm not a Cubs fan.

I've only started reading it, but in the early going, Jonah Keri's "The Extra 2%" paints LaMar as a good baseball guy who was steamrolled by a tyrannical owner (Vince Naimoli) in Tampa Bay. I'm not sure that makes him an idiot. I've heard nothing but good things about his work for the Phillies.

What I've heard is that he's great with the minor league system, but he sort of totally failed in his one time as GM. He was with the Braves in a development capacity before getting the Tampa job, yes?

He seems like a great guy to have in an organization. I think that player development is the single most important thing for an organization to be good at. Maybe another GM chance is warranted.

Yes, clearly what the Cubs need is one of the worst GMs in recent major league history.

Sounds like the guy they (Cubs) just fired.

Eh, I don't think that retaining Fleita is going to be an obstacle. I'm sure the Cubs would let the new GM buy out his contract.
