Pirates set to recall outfield prospect Meadows

Meadows was the Pirates’ first-round pick, the No. 9 overall selection, in the 2013 Draft. He is the club’s No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and the No. 42 overall prospect in MLB. He has been held back in previous years by injuries, including oblique and hamstring strains, but he has long been viewed as one of the Pirates’ future building blocks in the outfield.

“It’s been a tough road, but I feel like that’s behind me now,” Meadows said earlier this year. “I’ve really learned a lot. I’ve ventured out, learned a lot about myself and my body.”

Pittsburgh is in first place, with series against the bottom-dwelling Padres and Reds before a 10-game test against the Cardinals and Cubs starting later in the month. Starling Marte is injured, so it’s likely that Meadows will get starts in CF.

His AAA numbers don't really scream "ready for the Show". No power at all.

281/326/380, 103 wRC+, 5% BB, 15% K, 1 HR, 0 triples, 9 doubles, in 131 PAs.

He would still have been a better bet for the Sox than Trey Ball (#7 in the same draft.)

I’ve ventured out, learned a lot about myself and my body.
Good backpacking trip to Amsterdam, eh?

5 for 11 in his first series, with a homer. Prepare the plaque.
