This weekend, MLB.com and sportsvision are hosting the third Pitch F/X Summit in San Francisco.
At SABR 40, both were present at a panel moderated by Alan Nathan along with several Pitch F/X gurus. The Summit is going to be Webcast, so you can watch online at their site. The conference is going to have a lot of focus on the FIELD F/X project, with presentations using the data gathered thus far at the SF park. 9:05 - 9:30 am…........ Infield Defense with FIELDf/x…........ John Walsh
9:30 - 9:50 am…........ Using Velocity Components to Evaluate Pitch Effectiveness…........ Lentzner/Fast
9:50 - 10:10 am…........ PITCHf/x Application in Player Development and Evaluation…........ Glenn Schoenhals
10:35 - 10:45 am…........ Okajima’s Mystery Pitch…........ Matt Lentzner
10:45 - 11:05 am…........ Leaving the No-Spin Zone…........ Alan Nathan
12:15 - 12:40 pm…........ FIELDf/x System Overview…........ Vidya Elangovan
12:40 - 1:05 pm…........ From Raw Data to Analytical Database…........ Peter Jensen
1:05 - 1:30 pm…........ Using FIELDf/x to Assess Fielders’ Routes to Fly Balls…........ Dave Allen
1:55 - 2:20 pm…........ Measuring Base Running with FIELDf/x…........ Mike Fast
2:20 - 2:45 pm…........ Speed/Jumps…........ Jeremy Greenhouse
2:45 - 3:05 pm…........ Where Fielders Field: Spatial and Time Considerations…........ Matt Thomas
3:35 - 4:00 pm…........ SCOUTf/x…........ Max Marchi
4:00 - 4:25 pm…........ True Defensive Range (TDR): Getting out of the Zone…........ Greg Rybarczyk
4:25 - 4:40 pm…........ The Future of Sportvision’s Data Collection…........ Greg Moore
I think this is the first time Field F/X will really be exposed to what it has, and some good ideas about analysts will be able to do with it.
