Platoon Advantage: The Crimes of Jon Heyman

Finally…a reason for Twitter to exist.

If you know anything about The Common Man, you know that he likes to suspect people of things without evidence.  Earlier today, the execrable Jon Heyman, who we’ve lambasted in these parts before, essentially called Andy Pettitte a perjurer, despite ample evidence that Pettitte is not guilty of perjury.

So, The Common Man felt it was important to find things to suspect Jon Heyman of, despite the fact that evidence may or may not exist to definitively prove he was not involved.  But The Common Man could not do it alone, and so he created a hashtag on Twitter, #CrimesOfJonHeyman and invited you to contribute your ideas.

Was the first person to say “have a catch”. #CrimesOfJonHeyman

Influences Pedro Gomez’s HOF choices #CrimesofJonHeyman

Nickelback. #CrimesOfJonHeyman

This is seriously petty. If you insist of having no life and talking about baseball on the internet all day, what's it worth to pick a public fight with a sportswriter the intelligent among us never take seriously to begin with?

Because at the moment the Heyman's of the world have far too much power. A large number of people are thinking Andy Pettitte committed perjury and that's not right.

I've been thinking about this lately. This is an election year. If ever there was a time to be skeptical of what we are told by those in the media, this is the year. No matter how informed we all try to be it's impossible to know the agendas of everyone who writes something. People who write things that are either blatantly wrong or simply skew the facts in a manner that unfairly biases the reader should be called out.

Heyman didn't call Pettitte a perjurer. He did call him a liar, which he plainly is. If we're going to be concerned about the social ramifications of sportswriting, we should be more concerned with the relentless efforts, up to a few days ago, to portray Pettitte as a truth-teller.

Pettitte has lied repeatedly about HGH. That truth was kept underground by sportswriters for years.

It's very easy really. If the author agrees with your point of view, he's a responsible journalist and good American. If he disagrees with your point of view, he's skewed the facts to support his radical agenda and hates America. Nothing to it.

And here I was concerned that my new hobby of listening to conservative talk radio for sport was going to have some drawbacks.

Nah, you never have to worry while listening to "NFL Draft Day With Rush Limbaugh".

No, they should be ignored. They're in the entertainment business, pure and simple. Acknowledging them only gives them legitimacy.

But he called him a liar about something he wasn't a liar about, while defending his truthfulness on something he was a liar about.

Nothing. From what I gather, the phrase is only used in some parts of the country, and the people in the other parts are bothered by it. They are mistaken. And a little bit sad.

More specifically, the parts of the country where people say stupid things.

SOSH says you're a sad little person. Doesn't that make you sad?

In case no one was watching:

1st Josh Hamilton (11) 2 run shot to center off Arrieta, Andrus scored.
3rd Josh Hamilton (12) 2 run shot to left off Arrieta, Andrus scored.
7th Josh Hamilton (13) 2 run shot to center off Arrieta, Andrus scored.
8th Josh Hamilton (14) 2 run shot to center off O´Day, Andrus scored.

I have never heard the expression "have a catch" in my life until this moment.

Weird.

I'm from an NYS suburb of NYC, and that was the phrase I remember -- Want to go have a catch?

I never heard it until I moved to the northeast. In Ohio, it was "play catch"

You can't make it up.

It's that way most places. We've had this talk before. In the past things have moved on to mapping pop vs soda. I think there's a gif out there somewhere...
