Oh, geez. Might as well put what I want to happen, because it's as likely as anything else.

PHI 3 - STL 0
ARI 3 - MIL 0

NYY 4 - TEX 2
ARI 4 - PHI 3

NYY 4 - ARI 3

10 years later, sweet revenge. Maybe Cano can hit a foul ball that will hit Curt Schilling in the head in the stands, leaving him with permanent brain damage that renders him permanently unable to speak.

Yeah, I'm always torn between picking the thing I'm rooting for and the thing I find most likely. I don't care a great deal about any of these teams, and it's not like I'm betting or anything, so I'll just pick rooting interests (mild though they are) here.

this thread is fairly surprising in that virtually noone is going out on the limb to predict cardinals victory in the NLDS.

as for my prediction, i guess i'll go with more than half of ESPN's baseball analysts picking the cardinals to advance to the NLDS, only to see them get swept like the dying, choking dogs they are.

Phils over Tigers.
It'll be the lowest-rated World Series ever, but Phils over Tigers.
Why would that be the lowest-rated Series ever? Both are original pre-expansion teams, both are in large markets with baseball passion, and both have diaspora fans across the country (maybe not as many as the Yanks or Bosox, but quite a few).

A Rays-Diamondbacks Series (the two youngest franchises in MLB, if you look at the Nationals as the refashioned Expos) would likely be the lowest-rated Series ever, since neither has a substantial constituency. (Heck, with both located in spring training hotbeds, each have trouble dominating their home markets.)

A LITTLE chippy?

The red @ass Cards vs. Beach Bum Brewers?

Even the announcers dislike one another

I think this would be best for America, even if the east coast doesn't realize it yet.

we still have yet to have a World Series with out at least one 'original' team.

The 2006 Detroit-St Louis World Series was the lowest rated series at the time (though the 2008, Phillies-Rays and 2010-Giants and Rays have since been lower).

I missed the entire Giants-Rays series last year it seems. ;)

Not necessarily what I expect, but what I want to happen in the playoffs
(based on the FLNRSA Index, a proprietary measure factoring in team payroll, median time of games, and stylishness of uniforms):

DIVISION SERIES
Tigers over Yankees
Rangers over Rays
D'Backs over Brewers
Cards over Phillies

LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Rangers over Tigers
D'Backs over Cards

WORLD SERIES
D'Backs over Rangers

Yeah, it's not surprising that based on the TBS timeslots, in order of network preference, it seems to be:
DET/NYY
STL/PHI
TEX/TB
ARI/MIL

DIVISION SERIES
Yankees over Tigers (Dull-as-dishwater sweep)
Rays over Rangers (Hard-fought, lots of extra innings)
Brewers over Diamondbacks (Five close games, but remembered as a rout)
Phillies over Cards (TLR deathwatch, Carp is great)

LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Rays over Yankees (Jorge catches more than one inning, AJ & Bartolo start games 4 & 6, lots of second-guessing)
Brewers over Phillies (in 7, Roy throws a perfecto)

WORLD SERIES
Brewers over Rays (in six, great games, lousy ratings)

AN IDEA I JUST HAD:

Would people be interested in a BTF playoff pool? $5 for entry, the pot goes half to the winner and half to the Jim to help upkeep the site?

We could set up a thread for final predictions.

Took until post 23 for somebody else to pick the Diamondbacks to win the NLDS. Wow.

You mean except for post 3?

Rangers over Rays, 3-2
Tigers over Yankees, 3-2

Phillies over Cardinals, 3-0
Brewers over Diamondbacks, 3-1

Rangers over Tigers, 4-3
Phillies over Brewers, 4-1

Phillies over Rangers, 4-0

The Phillies pitching just looks too strong for anyone to do anything against it.
I give the Brewers a game because Fielder/Braun should win one game by themselves.

My rooting interest order is:

Phillies (go Halladay!)
Diamondbacks (Hill, Overbay, McDonald, Roberts...go ex-Jays!)
...
Brewers (I want to see a Prince Fielder walk-off celebration)
Rays (Young kids win big and cap off amazing comeback)
Tigers (Verlander's amazing season topped off with a perfect game)
...
Cardinals (Pujols wins, and Cardinals forced to pay through the nose for him)
Rangers (meh)
...
Yankees (Posada walk-off home run for final Yankee at-bat would be nice.)

Phillies over Yanks in 5

I was going for bold... or drunk. Or for not having slept in about 40 hours or so, it gets hard to keep those things seperated. And you didn't even point out I had Detroit losing both ALDSs.

Anyway, lets try again:

MIL 3 - ARI 2

TBR 4 - NYY 2
