Yanks score 3 in the 8th to top Rays 4-2; Angels only 1 GB Tampa Bay; could be 0 by evening's end!

I hate to admit it but an extra wild card team in each league would have led to better races this year.

It's looking like it really doesn't matter what the Red Sox do in September. They built themselves a big enough lead that the Ray are not going to catch them.

I'm wondering (not to be mean to Angels fans or anything, sincerely) whether I might get to see a division-clinching game in Arlington on Friday night. I've seen one such game before (1999, when the Rangers beat the A's). Could be interesting. Now I hope I haven't jinxed it.

The matter of whether the Rangers or the Tigers face the Wild Card team (assuming it doesn't somehow turn out to be Anaheim) is of at least mild interest, too. Do the Tigers hold that tie-breaker because they won their season series against Texas?
