I have a big white German Shepherd, and people periodically stop me and tell me that he's like the dogs on the show. From photos I've seen, it doesn't look like there are actually Shepherds on the show - is that right? The one that looks closest to my dog seems to be "Ghost," played by a wolf?

Baseball connection: White German Shepherds are the Jackie Robinsons of the canine world, barred due to color. Per the AKC: "Color: The German Shepherd Dog varies in color, and most colors are permissible. Strong rich colors are preferred. Pale, washed-out colors and blues or livers are serious faults. A white dog must be disqualified."

I'm going to forget everything about this show during the 2 year interval between episodes.

This has not been confirmed, and maybe I'm naïve, but I just can't imagine they are going to do that.

Also, that photograph is pretty awesome.

Remembering is easy: Jaime Lannister is a crafty lefthander, Jon Snow is the reigning Comeback Player of the Year, and Varys is behind by two balls.

Speaking of dire wolves, haven't seen this posted yet:

Nationals plan to activate Bryce Harper on Monday

The wolf names refer to the outcome of each of their Stark(/Targaryen) owner in the story:

Grey Wind - Robb becomes nothing, as insubstantial as wind.
Ghost - Jon dies, yet still walks around. Kind of like a ghost.
Nymeria - Arya becomes a warrior.
Lady - Sansa
Shaggy Dog - The Rickon saga is a shaggy dog tale, an improbable, complicated, and pointless side adventure.

Did Ghost die at some point? Haven't seen him in a couple of seasons now.

No he didn't die, his CGI funding was shifted to dragons.

Ha! That makes sense.

Also, how does Summer tie in with Bran's outcome?

Ah right, I forgot one. Maybe he will play a key role in the defeat of Winter as represented by the Others (White Walkers), and therefore he's ... summer? That's all I got.

Have to think it ties in to how Bran will help end winter, thus bringing summer back ...

Isn't Summer dead? Died in the tunnels before Hodor?

Right, but I meant the wolves' names, not the wolves themselves.

Yeah I'm with the others--that name's purpose is yet to be seen, probably somewhere around the last episode as he defeats the night king for good.

One of them was literally named Shaggy Dog? #someta

Rickon was the youngest Stark, therefore had the least witty name. I mean, kids can be imaginative, but not very witty. My three-year old daughter named her fish "Horsey".
