Powers: Twins need to run a tighter ship next season

Currently, the players and their agents are in charge. They decide when to play, when to train, when to seek medical advice and how to rehab an injury. The inmates are running the asylum. And it flat-out didn’t work in 2011.

Hey, if you mean Joe Mauer, say Joe Mauer!!

Also, the Twins need to re-evaluate their medical staff, including team doctors and therapists, as well as their strength and conditioning program. We've got players out for months with what should be fairly minor, treatable injuries. We're talking about muscle pulls and back strains.

Doctors? What the hell do they know?

Minor injuries like numbness and partial paralysis of legs and concussions.

It means "emphatically" or "definitively". For example, "After he hit .216/.270/.340 in his age 26 season, even his staunchest defenders will have to throw up their hands and admit that Brandon Wood flat-out sucks".

Off topic, but I only posted that because I've been looking at season-end statlines today and Wood jumped out at me. It's remarkable that the Angels produced two of the flat-out worst hitters in recent memory - Wood and Mathis - pretty much simultaneously... and what's more, they both looked like decent to good hitters as prospects.

I don't care what nobody says, that Michael Cuddyer can flat hit!
