In the past, a Marlins WC berth has meant a Marlins WS win, but that has to end sometime, right? Yankees over Cardinals
I'm not sure this is ever going to happen, unless Howard goes down while Utley carries the team, or unless he goes nuts and hits 45 bombs. The past two years he's finished 14th (!) and 8th, despite being arguably the best player on a team that won consecutive pennants (and one WS).

I know, it seems like a longshot, but I'm going with the idea that since Howard and Rollins have already won, the voters will look for someone on that team that ISN'T him, and they'll pick Utley this time.

Interestingly enough, Neifi Perez's middle name is Neftali.
Now that's a bold prediction.
Only 6 picked him. I did. Here is my reasoning:
1. The voters prefer an MVP to come from a playoff team, preferably a playoff team which wins its division and maybe has the best record in its league. The Yankees should fit that bill;
2. The voters prefer a guy who gets a lot of RBIs. Given that line-up, his hitting ability and where he hits in that line-up, Teixeira should get a lot of RBIs;
3. Teixeira is a fine hitter;
3.

I hadn't really noticed stat geeks being more inclined to elect pitchers as MVPs. I don't remember seeing much talk about Grienke last year, for example, and he would have seemed to have a pretty strong argument.
That said, my predictions:

You've missed the joke.
I think that stat geeks are 1,000% less likely to declare pitchers ineligible for MVP, or to only vote them as high as 2nd, or any of the other nonsense that the writers bring to this award.
But at the same time, VORP and WARP and Win Shares and whatever tend to all say that pitchers are not as valuable as hitters.
Not with the year Mauer had. A pitcher needs to absolutely dominate the league, be on a playoff team, and do it all in a year where there is confusion on who the best hitters were. Pedro had all this going for him in 1999 and almost won. IIRC there was at least one NYC voter that suddenly decided that pitchers were ineligible, despite voting for someone like Aaron Sele the year before.
Was it just one joke? Or several? I'm confused.

I don't know that there's really much to miss -- just a bit of a surreal set of predictions. I didn't get it, either, until I got to the MVP: Mariners part. OK, I don't see why we all have to use the same format.
* No batter will hit more than 45 homeruns.
* We will have a 20+ game winner.
* The American League will win the all-star game; the starting pitcher for each side will be making his first all-star appearance.
* Carlos Silva will be more valuable than Milton Bradley. ;) Justin Upton will be more valuable than Albert Pujols.
* The Pirates will finish over .500, despite their lack of players who are good at baseball.
* A closer will win the Cy Young Award.
* The only no-hitter of the year will be thrown by...... John Danks.
* Gary Sheffield and Jermaine Dye are the only two prominent currently unsigned players who will play this year.
Someone will take a chance on Pedro.

Austin Jackson will start the season hot, resulting in much wailing and gnashing of teeth among the NY media.
Josh Beckett will continue to be talked about as if he were Walter Johnson circa 1913.
Chris Tillman will not have a successful MLB career. (May require some time to validate)
The Rangers will talk Jason Neighborgall out of retirement.
Ben Sheets will be awful.
Adrian Gonzalez will not be traded.
BJ Upton will hit like it's 2008.
Mike Cameron will either have a raw OPS >.850 or <.750.
Aroldis Chapman is going to obliterate AA.
Daniel Moskos will continue to make Pirate fans despise Littlefield.
Jason Heyward will hit sometime like .275/.350/.450 for the year.
Chad Billingsley will remember that he's really good.
Russell Martin will not.
Chien-Ming Wang is done.
Manny will not be a top 10 hitter in the game.
Chase Utley will continue to get less MVP support than his teammates.
The Giants will continue to have a good bullpen, and Brian Wilson will continue to look like an idiot.
Prince Fielder will gain weight as the season goes on.
Mark Reynolds will not break his K record.
It seems like there is one every year. Given that this "rivalry" is less than 15 years old, and for most of it one of the teams as sucked big-time, there's an awful lot of bad blood between the Sox & Rays.
