Price, Rays beat Red Sox for 8th straight victory

Price won his sixth start in a row, Evan Longoria hit a three-run double, and the Rays earned their eighth straight victory by beating the Boston Red Sox 6-4 on Friday night.

‘‘A little bit of the swagger is back,’’ Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said.

59 games left, 40-19 gets them to 90 wins.  It could happen.  Hopefully they have some more games with the Red Sox on the schedule.

They're only 4½ out of the Wild Card. They don't need a miracle here.

Kick em when they're down, Rays. Be like the jackboot that's stamping on their faces----forever.

I like this, because I have tickets to see the Rays play twice in Arlington next month. Pennant race, here I come :)

Maybe it's just my perception but it sure feels like the Rays have been the Sox bete noir since about 08.
Even when they were kinda bad they gave the Sox fits.

That was mostly just Brian Daubach.

2013 - Red Sox 12, Rays 7 (plus 3-1 in ALDS for 15-8 total)
2012 - Red Sox 9, Rays 9
2011 - Red Sox 6, Rays 12 (including 6-1 Tampa in September)
2010 - Red Sox 7, Rays 11
2009 - Red Sox 9, Rays 9
2008 - Red Sox 8, Rays 10 (plus 4-3 in ALDS for 14-11 total)
Overall - Red Sox 48 - Rays 59

Prior to 2008 the Sox, like most team, demolished the Rays (111-58). Oddly the only year the Sox had a losing record against Tampa was a playoff year, 1999 when the Sox went 4-9 against them.

I said at the break that the odd thing about the division is the two teams I thought had the best chance to come back were the 4th and 5th place teams (Boston and Tampa at the time). Tampa is doing their part and the Sox are doing their part for Tampa too.

I have a feeling the baseball gods are going to find a way for Jeter to win this one more time now.
