Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 10-11-2017

Rogue River [Oregon] Courier, October 11, 2017:

The New York National league Giants trampled over the Chicago American league White Sox by a five to nothing score, making the series even up. Ferdinand Schupp, the Giant’s southpaw duplicated Benton’s shut out performance, by plastering a second coat of white-wash to the would-be victors…The series now stands, Chicago, 2; New York 2.

At this point, the White Sox hadn’t scored a run in 22 innings.

Let's all hope that Giovanny Urshela has a happy 26th birthday.

I see that Buttercup Dickerson was a rookie in 1878, the same year that HMS Pinafore premiered. Tough year to break into the majors, apparently, from the topical-nickname point of view.

Are you saying poor little Buttercup?

"Buttercup & Da Meat Hook" would be a nice TV sitcom title.

Starring Kate Jackson as Buttercup, an aspiring children's author, and Charles Bronson as "Da Meat Hook," a crusty car repo man. The two of them find themselves sharing the same apartment building in LA. The building super is played by Scatman Crothers.

But I date myself.

We probably can't get Bronson, so we should go with Louis Gossett Jr. in that role. Then we have to re-cast the Crothers role so the demos don't skew too "urban." I'm thinking Gary Sandy.

Casting it today, I'd go for Danny Trejo as Da Meat Hook, Ginnifer Goodwin as Buttercup, and Brad Garrett as the super.

I'm thinking Gary Sandy.

Get Jack Sheldon. His shtick is that every time someone complains about something, he starts telling them about what's broke in his apartment. And he plays the trumpet.

Don't forget "Mikado Milt" Scott from 1882-86 (FYI: When I was a lad, I was Sir Joseph in a grade school production of Pinafore)...

Nice Gary Sandy reference.
