Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 10-19-2017

New York Sun, October 19, 1917:

That Urban Faber, who pitched the White Sox to victory over the Giants in the deciding game of the world’s series at New York on Monday, collapsed in the clubhouse immediately after the contest was the statement made by Mel Wolfgang, one of the Chicago pitchers, [yesterday].
...
“Faber, who pitched that last game for us, walked off the field as cool and composed as though he were going to church, but just as soon as he got in the clubhouse he collapsed. His jaw dropped, his knees sagged and he fell into the arms of some of the fellows.

Faber was fine, of course. Just exhausted.

Good bullpen on the birthday team, but there will be a lot of passed balls with Alomar Sr. behind the dish.

The C/Manager and top pitcher are both Cubs, so their ghosts will probably lead the Cubs to a win over the Dodgers tonight, like they did on their birthday last year.

Yeah, but there's a chance they could be offset by Snodgrass, so...

The ghost of Tim Belcher will be cheering on the Dodgers. Belcher won on his birthday in 1988.

Belcher won on his birthday in 1988.

Ugh. Thanks for that reminder...

Why yes, the first Strat-O-Matic season I owned was 1988. Why do you ask?

No Kirk Gibson?
   12. Pat Rapper's Delight (as quoted on MLB Network) Posted: October 19, 2017 at 04:21 PM (#5558285)
No Kirk Gibson. He did hit a pretty famous home run as a PH in his only plate appearance in the Series though.

No Kirk Gibson?

Wasn't the HR his only appearance in the Series?

EDIT: Coke to PRD.

Didn't Costas give the lineup before one game and say "This might be the worst starting lineup in the history of the World Series"?
   15. JustDan Posted: October 19, 2017 at 04:26 PM (#5558296)
oops, I thought the question was regular season.

In that case put Hershiser in every position.
