Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 11-18-2013

Pittsburgh Gazette Times, November 18, 1913:

PIERRE, S.D., Nov. 17—Articles of incorporation were filed with the secretary of state here today for the colored National Baseball League of the United States. The league is capitalized for $50,000 and is backed by Chicago men.

The league never got off the ground to any meaningful extent. It might seem weird that the league was incorporated in South Dakota, but for whatever reason, the Dakotas were an early hotbed of integrated baseball.

Up at THT: The 2014 Hall of Fame VC vote. I go over the candidates on the ballot. Except I somehow forgot to go over Concepcion (I handle him in the comments section - just scroll down to that part below the article).

There might be some trouble between Ruben Tejada and the Mets.

OF Matt Luke

A baseball game I used to play back in the day got all wonky one day and would (randomly) repeat Matt Luke's name in the middle of plays/commentary, for no real reason.
And not just saying his name normally, but drawing it out in some freaky fashion, like "Matt Luuuuuuuuuke".
It would happen if he was in the game, wasn't in the game, on the menu screens, whatever.
My friend and I would die laughing every time it happened, and for the (brief) time Matt Luke was in the majors, we always referred to him as "Matt Luuuuuuuuuke".

Matt Luke started 2 games at first base for the Angels. One of which was Eric Milton's 11 AM no-hitter against a lineup of 8 bench players and Troy Glaus.

Luther Hackman, Calvin Pickering, John Wesley (Boog) Powell, Mose Solomon (the Rabbi of Swat)

It looks like at least 11 major leaguers had the first/middle names John Wesley.
