Baseball Primer Newsblog— The Best News Links from the Baseball Newsstand
Thursday, November 01, 2012
Salt Lake Tribune, November 1, 1912: Lon Romney, one of the best football players in the Rocky mountain conference, and an excellent baseball player as well, has a berth awaiting him on the Denver Western league club if he decides to play professional baseball.
...
“He’s just as good a baseball player as he is a football star,” some one told Hendricks. “If that’s so, I want him,” declared [Denver manager Jack Hendricks].
There doesn’t seem to be any evidence that Mitt’s first cousin once removed ever played pro baseball, but it was a weird thing to stumble across right now.

OK, this is a bit scary. Not the fact itself, but that you know it.
We have the first waiver transaction of the winter, as Scott Maine has been claimed by the Blue Jays from the Indians.
Amazing how many Yankees are now free agents. I guess that happens when the entire team is over 35 years old.
Soriano just declined his option.
Other free agents are Swisher, Kuroda, Chavez, Pettitte, Martin, Lowe, Andruw, Fred-Gar, Ibanez, Ichiro, and of course Mariano Rivera.
