El Paso Herald, November 8, 1912: That story from Montana about Clark Griffith saving his life by beaning an infuriated deer with a rock…is reminicent of the yarn about George Engle, a minor league pitcher up in the northwest, who was getting by on a windup and a prayer.
...
[When an opponent with whom Engle had argued] came to bat against George, the shortstop on Engle’s team bustled up to the pitcher and whispered vengefully, “Bean him, George! Bean him!”
George eyed him with withering scorn. “Bean him?” he said, “Bean him? What with?”
Engle’s career record in the Northwest League was 29-10, so he must have been doing something right.

It's not much money, but I have no idea why you'd give an apparently blah (per bb-ref's numbers) utility guy three years. If I had to guess, I'd say he's somewhere else by the end of 2014.
It does look like MI might be past his sell-by date but, for his career, he's actually a bit above-average (by bWAR) which means he was an awesome utility guy. He'd likely have been a starting SS for several years if he hadn't landed on the same team as Aybar. But the defensive numbers suggest his time as a passable defensive SS are probably gone and the bat may be in decline. Still, worse guys (Chris Gomez, Juan Castro, Cairo) hung on in this role for ages.
