Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 12-13-2012

Pittsburgh Press, December 13, 1912:

WILD FILIPINO TRIBES HAVE TAKEN TO BASEBALL

Igorrotes of Baguio Quit Head Hunting to Run Bases in Their Bare Feet

[Frederick E. Moir, who works in government service in the Philippines says] “The Igorrotes…are developing a skill in the game which is truly remarkable. Nor has the good old fashioned ‘bleacherite’ in the United States anything on the half-clothed fan in the matter of the baseball josh. From the mind of the new arrival in the Philippines the dreams of bolos and head hunters vanish as he witnesses one of their baseball games.”

Perhaps, but they’ll never top the ultimate baseball josh.

Two Hall of Famers and a pretty good pitching staff on today's Birthday Team. Other than Doby, though, these guys are going to struggle to produce offense.

Fergie and Dale on the same team? Should make for some great nights on out on the town!

I may be mistaken but I think that Billy Loes had a reputation as a party animal as well. Doby would have his hands full getting this bunch to the park on time and ready to play. At least he wouldn't have to worry too much about McDaniel.

Fergie wasn't a bad hitting pitcher.

If Mike Mordecai has anything in common with Charlie Mortdecai he would also be a handful.

Fergie's place among Canadian baseball players? Is that up for debate?

But, crap, Fergie is 70! I'm old. Get off my internet!

Gaylord Perry pitched in the first MLB game I ever saw in person, and he's 74 now.
